Do they have faceted pontils? If so they are very old.

That's the point. They probably all have melted pontils. Old melted pontils marbles are all made in the USA and never have oxblood.

A melted pontil oxblood marble should never be mistaken as old. Not for next 50 years anyway.

The oxbloods are from the last time I made marbles back in March of 2008. Below are some of the first marbles I ever made and they look exactly like the Bulgarian example that started this thread. My crucible was a ceramic dog food bowl in the bottom of my glory hole. I melted scrap glass. It is rather easy to make seedy old looking glass with as-made broken air holes, embedded dirt/ metal oxide. Mine are all melted pontil as Hansel states. Making a ground pontil example is easier than making the melted variety. The Bulgarian example was just made with a course grinding stone - looks like 80 grit diamond to me. It really speeds up the production pace when you only have to knock a finished marble off into the annealing oven and not mess with the flame polishing and smoothing.......

Excuse? No excuse. I was naive enough to believe your story that those "bricks" you polished had been found in a burned out MFC factory.

Fortunately the attorney's fees were affordable and I got most my money back. But that was some 20 years ago. Heard you've since reformed.

Gee Hansel I thought by gones were by gones. If anything you should have thanked me for the lesson you learned, and how many fake medals and fake marbles have you contributed your "INPUT" into lately?!!! LOL,LOL You need to clean up your own act before you try and clean up mine. But everything's all right, I still like you. Ronnie

I just posted in another thread about a Bulgarian movie title which translated into "Glass Marbles".

The Bulgarian title didn't show up right when I pasted it here. But it might useful for future reference as a Google search term.

Here's one page which showed up today. The Google translator makes it look like a "want to buy" ad, complete with buyer's email. (Or possibly the ad is from someone wanting to sell but the comment came from a potential buyer.) Maybe it's a Bulgarian marble collector. :)

Ooops, I forgot to link to the ad.

http://prodavalnik.com/trsya-stkleni-topcheta-limki-kato-tezi-ot-snimkite-ot-edno-vreme-sots-vreme-imashe-gi-vsyako-srelbische-i7688737

The description on the photo(s) in that ad translated to:

LOOKING GLASS BALLS LIMKI made in Sliven OF FURNACE FROM ONE TIME DURING SOC

Wiki says Sliven is the 8th largest city in Bulgaria. What might "SOC" be? [Edit: Looks like Socialist era ... 1946 to 1990?]

[Next edit: Limki is apparently a Bulgarian marble game (link) and might also be the name used for the marbles themselves (link) ]

Nothing directed personally towards you Galen, it was directed at those who fell for this seller. Ronnie

Poor dumb novice bidders? Boy your about as bright as a burned out light! If these are truly modern remakes I believe other collector new and old will learn what to look for when purchasing marbles. If me lossing a few dollars help us as a community then I'm ok with that. More pictures to come...

I'm hoping we can let that be the last time the r-word gets used. I cringed when Ronnie used it but I'm trying to err on the side on not censoring. Might have to excise part of this thread and send it to the BOI/SZ. Hope not. It's a possibility though.

Good thread for the most part.

Socialist era but it was a communism regime from 1947 till 1989.

I think the add asks for marbles from that time.

It remains quesswork but it's possible they have made marbles at that time, and the Bulgarians found out that the Americans pay big money for marbles, just a thought........

It says nothing but most of the "Bulgarian"marbles i've never seen before.

If we know so little about German marbles, how on earth could we know something about Bulgarian marbles.
