IowaMarble
Picked up a new sulphide the other day... Three monkeys... hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. Interesting, huh? Now to make things even more interesting... it is marked "OCCUPIED JAPAN" on the back of the middle monkey. Clearly not an antique but a curious piece none the less. Talk about three wise monkeys! Greatmacscott
That is very cool and interesting. A quick search on "occupied Japan" marking would date the marble roughly between 1946 and 1953 (per Gothenburg.com and a couple other sites) It makes me wonder if the so called "California Sulphides" are... Al Oregon
Don't forget that maybe the figure was marked back in that time frame before it was made into the marble.
Steph
For the record, we have learned that Ray Laubs made it. Some elaboration about the monkeys. These monkeys are not in antique sulphides, because of the occupied Japan marking. I was hunting an original figure and this was one of the smallest I had found. raynsandy
The original was plastic and was meant to clutter up your shelves as a trinket.
Steph
The original was plastic and was meant to clutter up your shelves as a trinket. Ohhh ... you made a cast of it and then made the sulphide figures?
