Steph
That thin line of red is a wonderful effect. What does the other end look like?
manddrakes
Very true that would help! LOL.
Steph
Interesting .... I hoped that would make it easier for me. But no. I'll sit out now and wait for a handgathered specialist to show up.
manddrakes
I like that term..."Handgathered specialist"

manddrakes
After studying my MFC and CAC handgathered I will rest on MFC. Thanks
Steph
Hmmm. While I am not a handgathered expert, I know that MFC had a relatively limited number of colors/styles. I just don't see that fitting in with the MFC. Especially with such a bright red shade. I'd still wait for some more input.
budwas
It doesn't look like a hand gathered twist in the last picture to me and the white looks more Akro. Be interesting to see what others say.
Steph
The last picture is the "cutline". That's what you'll often see on the opposite side from the "9 and tail". To me the colors in the last photo look sorta Japanese, but cutline is so clean and the spiral is so very nice, it seems too neat to be Japanese. And I don't know what to think about the clear. budwas
It's certainly a nice one. Left hand twist if hand gathered. Transitional?
budwas
I pulled three white base with red, hand gathered but none of them have the clear in the white. I don't know what to think.
disco005
I think I have to go with Akro as well, based on that last photo, very strong Akro looking cut to me.
sclsu
I would lean towards a transitional. Any indication of pontil?

VTAndrea
Couldn't it just be a CAC American Agate that didn't conform to the type?

sclsu
I don't have any American agates, so I can't say for sure on that, but I don't get an akro feel on the first set of pics (could be the lighting in pics). I can see it slightly in the one with you holding it, but I am still leaning something foreign. What is the size?

manddrakes
11/16" and here's a picture in natural light.
Steph
Hmmmm ... I guess I could get talked into thinking the 2nd end was an Akro seam instead of a handgathered cutline. The base looks mossy in this natural light photo. Okay, I'm all over the place here. Obvious I do not know! I'm gonna shut up now. No, really. I am. slagmarble
Not MFC, looks a lot like an American Agate to me
Steph
*sneaking back in* I suppose another choice could be Peltier Prima Agate http://marbleconnection.com/topic/21588-american-agate-or-prima/ *sneaking back out* *no one saw me, right?*
