The 3 bigger ones are definitely the same manufacture, looks like Veiligglas to me ?? Here's the odd man out, the smallest, looks like Jabo to me ?? Do you have a size on them ??
Steph
I was thinking possible Jabo (or related marble) on that 4th one, not for the buttcrack but for the sheer number of colors.
akroorka
I agree--the bigger one may be a "Contract" marble as well. I do not see many Veiligglas but the AV just looks out of place. Marble--on!!!
Chad G.
You may have a point there Art, the more I look the less Veiligglas I see, the colors are right but the av, excess colorant or whatever is off for Veiligglas. On second look I'm gonna say all 4 are "Jabo" (maybe ??)
Steph
I'm still going with three Veiligglas and one Jabo.
Steph
That bit of overlap in color makes me wonder if maybe I should have thought a little harder before saying that. But the larger three really do look like Veiligglas to me.
akroorka
I just watched this video(again) full screen on my PC--great stuff--well done. Just keep your trigger finger on the pause button. I think three veli and one jabo is right. Every dog had their day with AV in green colors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYw2-B4BWnc

Steph
Plastic calipers can be had for very low price. Or you could measure with two blocks of wood squarely against the ruler and the marble in between the wood blocks. But, yeah, non-metal calipers give a quick, safe way to measure.
akroorka
I use one of these when I am backfilling boxes. The companies that filled them were not as fussy as we as collectors may become. If it does not fit through a 9/16" hole and it does fit through a 5/8" hole--good enough for me, 5/8" it is. I also use it when sorting marbles into individual sizes. Quick and efficient. I also own several different calipers, The plastic ones are the way to go but if you are really splitting hairs, the metal ones are more accurate. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007RH8QWI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Steph
William, is yours metal? There are some nice precision calipers which don't have metal. I haven't researched or invested. I actually do use metal, but I worry about damaging the marble.
Chad G.
I have a pair of digitals w mm, inch & fractions of an inch made by "General" that are black plastic & look much like Williams. I don't even keep batteries in my metal ones anymore, like you said Steph & I agree, I get real nervous using the metal ones on a mib !! Mostly I don't even use digitals at all, just the cheap plastic "harbor freight" ones for a couple bucks.

Paid around $15 for them.
akroorka
As far as the metal calipers go, I just had a thought. Tape the edges and zero them that way. Way too easy but I just thought of it. Marble--On!!
