William
Saw this one today and was wondering about the "rarity" them. It would appear as if Akro used a variety of animals for these. Tough to find? And the animals used, is say the lion harder to find than the horse for example? Also from what I have seen, different variations of the ashtrays are being sold for anywhere from $70-$115. This particular one the asking price is $80. Figured I would absorb a little input before pulling the trigger on a purchase. I probably will just because I like it but this stuff would be good to know anyway!
Berryb
I have 2 lions. One belonged to my Grampa, the other I got in Eugene at a mall for less than 20 bucks. One is not marked (my grampa's) the other has felt glued to the bottom that I have not removed. I have never seen any other animals. I don't know how common they are, yours is only the 3rd one I have ever seen. They light up like crazy under a black light. Thanks Bruce
William
I saw another lion, two different kinds of dogs, and an owl online. I'm questioning whether the owl ashtray is Akro, I suspect it is something else, but the others are. This one isn't marked either, but I'll tell ya, would be nice to get this one for $20! Thanks, Bruce 😊

This is not an Akro ashtray, that much I will commit to. It looks Houze to me but I am not 100% sure. I just sent you a private message regarding some more info that I cannot publish here. akroorka
I found your ashtrays folks. In a pamphlet from the WV Museum of American Glass titled Vidrio Products Corporation. So, they are Vidrio. Here are a few images including the lighter from the set that I just happen to own.(I just wonder why I purchased it?) No doubt the ashtray was sold individually as well. Its a cool box though. The glass has a nice glow to it. The ashtray must be massive because the lighter weighs just over 13oz Vidrio—On!!!
