  1. The last time I spoke to him was a month or so ago and he was quite ill. I don't know his current status. Art
  2. Just a bump for the Badger marble show this week. Come one come all. Art
  3. Just a reminder that the Badger Marble Club Show is coming up on Oct. 24th. 22 rooms and 20 tables so far. See the show listings for details. Art
  4. Tony probably does 40 antique shows and flea markets a year and takes his marbles with him to the shows. Sometimes he sells one that he has listed on eBay, thus the disclaimer. Art
  5. If I'm selling it it's a Superman. If I'm buying it it's a Superboy.
  6. This will be my first time. They say you'll always remember your first time. Art
  7. Galen: I have a purple slag with well defined corks at both ends and the"V"'s around the middle. The only one I've ever had and I heard that it's called an "equator marble". If you're coming to Amana I'll save it for you to see. Art Jones
  8. Bill: Do you still have the "Gary" CA? I haven't seen that marble for over 10 years but I still remember it as one of the most awesome of the CA's. Art
  9. Not a big show but very nice. And some of the most incredible walk-ins that I've ever seen. Anyone who was there will never forget the big tray of early period rose chinas that stopped in just to say hello about 5 years ago. Art
  10. The master marble #6 boxes were very good fakes. The only thing that gave them away was that the copies were made on new cardboard which was almost pure white on the inside. It wouldn't be hard to steam the glue off an original box and then spread it out and scan the outside onto a piece of cardboard. I fell for one a few years ago. Very good reproduction. Art
  11. I bought from him once a few years ago. Got a bunch of dug fractured trash. When I see that it's his listing I skip past it quickly. If you can't tell that those are ground cullet you shouldn't be spending money on greed bay. Art
  12. Burt: Bring it to Canton. It'll get a lot of attention and don't be afraid to ask for a very good price. Art
  13. Weather permitting Bill Bass and I will be there on Wednesday through Sat. Art
  14. Those are both exceptionally nice buttonhooks with faceted stone agates. Most of the ones that you see just have a claw holding the marble. Figural ones are much more rare. You used them on the old shoes by slipping the hook through the eye of the shoe, hooking it around the button, and pulling the button back through the eye. Damn .......I'm showing my age. LOL Art
  15. Scott: I'll be there on Thursday and I've got a goodie for you. Art
  16. All modern! None of the bags have a seam that you'd find on bags from the 50's or 60's. Art
  17. Between the buyers premium and the outrageous shipping costs you won't get a bargain at Morphys auctions. The last time I won a bid at $75. With the premium and shipping it sost me $120.
  18. The Decatur, IL Spring marble show is scheduled for Saturday April 4th at 9:00 AM with room trading on April 2nd and 3rd. Tables are limited to 14 so get reservations in ASAP. Tables are $25, call Charles Garrett for tables at 217 422 8454, and the Country Inn and Suites for room reservations at 217 872 2404.
  19. I know that Albright was a clay marble supplier, I had a bag of 1000 some years ago. Art
  20. Bill Bass and I will be down on Thursday as long as the weather forecasts hold up. Art
  21. I bought some of the really beautiful Jabo Jokers but my impression of the mansions are that they're just a quick try at imitation. They had better sell them cheap. Art
  22. There are quite a number of different design stained glass boxes, both the small ones that held 25 marbles and the larger gift sets. None of the marble companies made them, they were ordered from companies who made boxes to order. Could you really see cardboard boxes being made in a marble factory with all of the ovens going? They'd have all burned down. In addition to Akro who used the most, Peltier and Master Marble used them. I also suspect that some of the "jobbers" like Pressman and Gropper probably put other makers marbles in some and wholesaled them. The designs were popular in the late 1920's and early 1930's when Art Deco was all the rage. Art
