These And More Will Be On The Chopping Block At Canton
greg11 replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
hope canton is different this winter, the feeling of the days leading up to the show this summer were rather odd. It was sorta highschool clique style, very Top Secret, not very friendly, there were also several missing faces and griff got stuck way down one wing of the hotel. People need to open up their rooms and be more friendly if you want people to continue to show up for these shows.I think the only people really selling marbles this summer were craig and art jones, sell some stuff people, come on...lets get this hobby back on it's feet. -
clyde is right, no cut line and a bit too shiny...

Crossroads of America Marble Show has been moved back to the Hampton Inn and Suites and will most likely stay there due to their excellent hospitality. (As advertised previously, our move to the Quality Inn to save a few dollars failed due to the change of ownership and management there and the inability to work out details with them. Sorry for any inconvenience.) Thursday, September 8 and Friday, September 9, 2011 in-room trading Friday evening, September 9 banquet for attendees - donations accepted Saturday, September 10, 10-2 FREE marble show to the public We will again have a raffle for participants. Each participant will receive a raffle ticket with the opportunity to purchase additional. The motel has dropped their rate even lower for us this year. Please make reservations as soon as possible to get the new rate of $74.95 to 765-455-2900. We request that you make reservations soon as to plan for the show and to keep this rate as they will only hold it for up to 2 weeks pre-show. Questions and/or table reservations email Beth Morris [email protected] or call 765-457-2477 or 765-438-2318.

It's cool to think they had used formulas to make the marbles, kinds like an LSD chemist

Is it true Roger Hardey discovered a old abandoned box car that had derailed or had been pushed to the side and dumped it's load of Akro marbles? Also, for those that have not heard the rumor, there has been 4 Guinea boxes found this summer, all were kept for years in a single safe deposit box.

I find it ironic that Hansel, Bill, Smitty, Brian, Alan, Bob, or anyone ever contributes to these exotic threads. We've had these threads many times before and got no where. Who the hell is thema LOL
-
Craig, the only people that will respond are those who do not own any of the exotics. Those that own them are all hush hush because its really not known if they are real or not. I think you may have invested in some recently and are trying to figure out what the deal is, this has been going on since the 90's. No one knows and Clyde is the only one that claims to own any. clyde did get some of les's striped opaques but the are not the big dollar CA's Alan sells periodically. All that i know is these crazy ass super clean minty CA's that alan sells are out of this world. I dont know why CA would have dumped them or stashed them in someones basement. Smitty, Tow, Brian Estepp, Alan, Bob, no one actually steps up and talks about what really went down so its all a big fricken mystery. You have to be in the in crowd to know what the deal is, and that fell apart at the latest canton show which was a drag. I'm still waiting to hear what the deal was with the show, why was it so quiet?
-
whoever is buying them is sending them back for consignment over and over again, or we are seeing duplicates sold. If someone is making them they are only releasing small batches throughout the year. Does anyone know if these were really found in a dig or found in someones house?
-
I say we all pitch in and rent some heavy equipment and go dig up the area, there's millions of those damn marbles down there.
-
I will start the bidding at $300.00
-
smokin!
-
must have been one hell of a bidding war going on to get the price so high. thats a lot of money for one marble, that probably sets the record for price paid on one single marble.
-
thats a lot of money for one marble $27,730.00 USD Description: Extra Large Divided Core Swirl Marble. Description Beautiful divided core swirl in bright orange, white, black, and green aventurine core with outer bands of alternating white and orange. This is believed to be the largest vintage marble known to exist and one of the rarest marbles Morphy's has sold at auction. A few as-made surface marks. Condition (9.7). Size 3 - 1/16" Dia. Estimate: 8,000.00 - 12,000.00 I thought some of the sulphides went pretty cheap. I didnt realize that auction was held the same weekend as the canton show, that's kinda odd...

picked this up on ebay, thought it was different. 1969 Marble Head game
-
Clyde, the ones you got from les look a lot different than the ones we see Alan selling over and over again. I know these are just changing hands but some are just way to perfect to be dug. I believe these marbles here are kens.

I heard from someone recently that the Christensen water cistern has yet to be checked out and that there could be thousands upon thousands of CA in there. Same person told me they found the MFC water cistern but its too dangerous to enter.
-
picked this up on ebay, i liked the picture. kewpie marble game. It is 2 1/2 inches. made in hong kong in 1979.
-
smitty, what was the attendance and did anything walk in off the street?
-
I would like to know the attendance from people off the street for the actual show. I dont attend the shows, I just room trade, thats been my thing for many years. I dont like shows to be honest. i like room trading at my own pace and leave the morning of the show. Watch collectors have something called a get together where they meet at someones home or a resturaunt and do their trading and buying at that time. Shows are great if you get a bunch of people bring stuff off the street but what is the point if its the same dealers/collectors who have been hanging out in there rooms having fun. We should have more late night poker games, drinking and having fun.

thank you sir

I bought some mibs from him last night and want to see if he still has something. greg

story I heard a long time ago was that the huge 1-7/8 MFC brown slags could be found in old toilets, seriously. Also, nice large german handmades are sometimes found inside old dolls, they were used as a weight inside the dolls.
