  1. Thanks Rick! the ā€œblackā€ cats are dark-dark purple.
  2. So, I had to buy this Chinese checker set, havenā€™t seen one before. 3-cane cats eye marbles, unused condition. no barcode, so pre 1974.
  3. Not a darn thing today, too many chores. Tomorrow however, we are going out antiquingšŸ˜¬. Hopefully for a score of some kind. Earlier this week I scored an old apothecary jar, itā€™s begging for my non-mint slags.
  4. The other thing we did was take a bicycle spoke and reverse the nut to create a chamber. We would cram some caps in it, along with shot from a shotgun shell. Hold it over a lit candle, and bang! My brother blew a hole thru his bedroom doorā€¦ these are things I never told my kidsšŸ˜¬
  5. The size makes it a parakeet. Parrots are typically 7/8ā€ or so. nice score!
  6. Grew up in the late 50ā€™s-and 60ā€™s. Marbles were a fun schoolyard game. Unfortunately they were better slingshot ammo. I did shoot my older brother in the butt one day with a wristrocket, paid for that one dearly. we also used to take an old steel sprinkler head ( before pop-up heads) with steel 4ā€ nipple, load a firecracker in where the fuse came out the nozzle. Load in a marble, light the fuse, and wham! Used a cottonwood tree as a target, so it was soft enough for the marble to imbed in it. didnā€™t start collecting until I got some Vacor meteors from my MIL when she passed in 1998 or so.
  7. Then there is thisā€¦ a Marbles 1908 22/410 over/under.
  8. Need to see if it has a bale or not. Bales were added around 1933 if I remember right. These are early 1900ā€™s. Solid pins. here are some rare ā€œmarblesā€šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
  9. Knuckle down? Would you ever use one of these mibs in a competition???
  10. I remember Bert getting a few at the Sistersville show in 2008. He had tears in his eyesā€¦ I didnā€™t understand the importance at the time.
  11. We have a local store with a local history section. Large fire in 1870 or so, with the recovered items. 3 marbles, one Bennington and 2 Pelt Rainbos. this is how histories get warped. Now, trying to correct the dating gets you kicked out of the storešŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Upton Sinclair quoteā€ It is hard to teach a person something when their salary depends on them not knowing it.ā€ truer words were never spoken!
  12. Thanks for the sanity check Steph!!
  13. I get Vitro on the first and last. No comment on the 2nd mib.(I was going to say slingshot ammo, but my wife is trying to make me a better personšŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£)
  14. He was unique. Taught himself to play the piano and accordion while in a TB sanatorium. Also learned Russian, translating many Russian geology books into English. he played the piano at concert level but refused to play if anyone was listening. I had to hide outside to hear him play.
  15. His other favorite saying was when someone said ā€œwellā€¦ā€ his response was ā€œdeep thinking for such a shallow mindā€
  16. This came from my ex- father-in-law, who I deeply loved. Much more than his psycho daughter. ( My first ex) he was a professor of geology, hired by my grandfather in 1948. My favorite saying of his was the 5 stages of a fart: A fizz A fuzz A fizzy-fuzz A fart And a tear-ass rattler. you all know what he was talking about.šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
