  1. Bill, You never showed me this marble.
  2. Can anyone show me what a more typical version of this Pelt would look like? Is this just a clear rainbo with all 4 ribbons on the surface? I think I have seen a "normal" RW/WB one before.
  3. I have thought about it, Sami, maybe a clear-based 2W1R/1B2W-ribbon pattern with bleeding red and one white ribbon on each side spreading out to cover the surface - I might be able to see it. What are you thinking?
  4. . . . is not like the others.

    Super Spotted Dick

I agree with your assessment of their construction. Beyond the fact that they have spots (a pretty simple theme), I would guess they are unrelated - unless in both cases they came in sets with different numbers of spots on them or something, and were used for a similar purpose.
  6. I know, weird, right? What you see is what you get with this one. I'm probably showing 95% of the marble - there just aren't many clues - a trans base with almost all of the color on the surface. But the blue looks odd for Vitro, at least to me, on this marble, with the red, I guess, maybe . . .???
  7. There are a lot of nice horse-hairs up there. Al's blue one is especially nice. I like the hair in transparent glass the best though. (Hey ya' Bill!) This specimen has a rudimentary heart.
  8. I knew Sonny, but not really well. Although, I do remember hanging out with him at the Sistersville Marble Festival for pretty much a whole day quite a few years ago. He really was a great guy and man did he like marbles. That day, he had bought a huge collection of old marbles - like a van load. We worked a deal and, somehow, I wound up sorting the entire collection for him (if I remember right, Edna wound up with a nice clear-based Berry Pink that day). We really clicked and had a great time together. He was tending his tables and every time I found a good marble I'd show it to him and we'd admire it together. He had lots of knowledge and all kinds of great stories to tell. I learned a few things that day, for sure, and I feel fortunate to have been able to share that particular day with him, since he always seemed to be in his full glory at a marble show. No doubt, I'll miss seeing him around.
  9. I have gone back and forth for years trying to decide who made this thing. My guess is that it's a Vitro Conqueror with an unusual pattern and color combo. If you agree or have any other ideas, please chime in, because this one has me flummoxed.
  10. I like the update too. I had a bit of glitch that was quickly fixed. Thanks to Lou and Steph for handling another release like a couple of pros!
  11. Hahaha, I don't often see marbles but I see marble patterns and color combinations everywhere. Is this how it starts . . . becoming normal, that is? Am I on the right track?
  12. What fun . . . thanks for sharing it with us! You seem to have remarkable self-control. I'm not sure I could have just looked at them through the glass for a decade! (I find leaving dirt on them helps but there aren't too many of those left around here either. lol) The selection looks really interesting. I'll no doubt spend lunch looking through them more closely and hoping we'll get to see the most interesting ones up close!
  13. - a precursor to the Pennsboro Carnivals, perhaps? Nice RWB drizzle too. I'd be cautious with this one . . . Let me see if I can find my example. and I am pretty sure Bud's is a nice Ravenswood too.
  14. That is a great marble, Galen! Hey Catfish, it's nice to see you here too!
  15. Steph's got a valid point. lol. Anywho, nice mibs, Paul. Is the lid spacing such that they don't slip out of their hole when it's attached? Do they need to be roughly the same size? Another pic assembled would probably be helpful.
  16. Oh yeah, that's one of those better Vacors . . .

    Alley?

If it's big I would say JABO. The last marble you posted is nice.
  18. . . . lots of monument-makers attending, I imagine.
