  1. Yellow and transparent? Yes.
  2. Galen, The reason I asked earlier if you had additional filter material was because if you could filter the lights when they are positioned as you had them in your first pic of four, I think that both the hotspot and shadowing issues should resolve with no flash. And FWIW, I think the clarity of the first pic is better than the others but I agree the hotspots are annoying.
  3. It looks like a jorkscrew to me.
  4. I think the darkness at the bottom of the marble results from using the flash and I don't think the lights you're using will prove bright enough by comparison to reduce that effect much.
  5. Does it come with a flap or some extra material to partially cover the front opening?
  6. Cool, I was looking at these too. It looks like you still used a flash on that pic. If so, I think it come out better without it. You might have to rearrange the lighting a bit though.
  7. Welcome to the board. The majority of marbles you are showing look newer and/or foreign-made, although a few may have been made in the USA. At a glance, I do not see any that look particularly special. You may want to take group shots of about 20-40 marbles, in a single layer, and as close as you can get, and post them in the ID section. That way, it will be easier see what all you have and we can identify any that might require a closer look. Regards,

    Akro Swirl?

Do you find it odd that Akro is not mentioned until the end of the ad where it says, "Akro Moss Agates. Made only by Akro"?

    Akro Swirl?

That would be great, Steve. I'd sure like to see them.

    Akro Swirl?

Here's an interesting N Shure Co. ad from 1939. It shows a 25 count Hot Shot bag. Although, they are selling 30, 60 and 100 counts with "assorted sizes and types", which doesn't really seem like something Akro would normally do, does it?

    Akro Swirl?

Thanks for showing those, Steve. I too wonder whether Akro packaged those Hot Shot bags. They were so big on branding it seems strange there is no mention of "Akro" on the bags. In addition, I've wondered if those bags are related to the Big Shot mesh bags, which were filled with WV swirls. Some Big Shot bags were jobbered by Pressman and others were packaged by Heaton Agate.
  12. The postal zone makes sense. For a minute, I thought maybe the label was made in Japan. But if that were the case, you might expect to see "Printed in Japan"? According to one source: On Thursday, February 20, 1964, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for ALOX and the name was first used on 4/1/1919. (http://www.trademarkia.com/alox-72187101.html). So it would seem that mine were packaged sometime after the trademark was registered. As for the ones you show . . . ?

    Akro Swirl?

Any reason they couldn't be rejects from a patch run gone bad? The colors match some of Akro's patches too.
  14. Dani, People would definitely see you coming. They are really bright. I had to grab 'em. The other kind of cool thing is how the patterns on the two laces line up almost perfectly in the package to make a checkerboard pattern. I'm a little perplexed by the "Made in Japan" and the "14MO" after St. Louis on the label Al shows. Anyone have thoughts?
  15. Those look like marbles to me too. Here are some Alox shoe laces . . . but no marbles on the label, unfortunately.

    Akro Swirl?

I agree with Alley for the OP, and here are a few more dug Akro swirls for comparison - they are such outliers. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if there are buckets of them out there somewhere.
  17. Eight vanes (or is it six with splits?) makes it a little less common, doesn't it?
  18. Sweet . . . the colors are great and a nice size too!
  19. If the marbles were made in the U.S.A. by one manufacturer, they would almost have to be MK or Vitro. If not . . .
  20. Nice Watermelons, Edna. Thanks, I'd still like to see what people call a Watermelon Patch though. I've seen a few different kinds of marbles that people called Marble King Watermelon Patches but none of them looked like it to me.
  21. It almost looks like the third pic is a different marble than in the first two pics. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Akro-Agate-11-16-Mint-Rare-Oxblood-Dragon-Patch-/111081923977?pt=Marbles&hash=item19dcffa589#ht_21wt_1320
  22. Thanks Duffy, I'm surprised I haven't seen more of them. Were they limited numbers?
  23. Nice Bill, Yeah . . . I've got the yellows and I've got the orange ones but I dont have them both on the same marble. And hey Clyde, are all three of those Akro?
  24. Seriously, Jeff, you've done a super job with the web sight - it's gone to whole new level. Thanks!
