  1. Ron, Now you have me thinking about Winnie's marble and the one you posted. I was thinking Winnie's looked like a weaker example of that big bad AV I got in that first small group of Sistersville's - you know the one. But it looks a lot like the one you posted, which is odd. Maybe you could bring that one along for comparison?

    A Few More

    Alleys, I believe.
  3. I think they are Alley.
  4. I have a couple that are really close, Winnie, and I don't think Alley is out of the question. How big is that one?

    Champion Bag

Nice bags, Al. I have a Penny King bag with 3 or 4 metallics in it. Are the ones DC called "Pumpkins" the same as the "Hotwheels" from Charlie Stutsman's sets, and weren't those early-mid 80s mibs?
  6. They are all Sistersville Alleys, as far as I can see - including Winnie's blue one. I got lots of patches in my bunch from Sistersville and most of them look Akro too. Coupla dandys!
  7. Hahaha . . . it does, now that I think about it. I might have made that name up - well, at least the reverse part. But it makes sense, doesn't it?
  8. That's a wild pic, Bob - all kinds of intrigue . . .
  9. Nice mibs, I am sure it was a good time. One of these days I am going to venture to a show out there. I think there are a lot of questions about what types of marbles Alox actually produced, and they did buy marbles from both Master and Ravenswood, as far as I know.
  10. It sure looks like gold leaf. Do you know the size? I do believe the one I posted is a reverse Jasper - 7/8".
  11. Nice, thanks for showing this. Now I have to go look at a few marbles . . .

    This is how I think about standard (max) size designations: 0008/16", 009/16" 10/16", 11/16", 12/16", 13/16", 14/16", 15/16" & 16/16".
  13. Winnie, that orange is cool - it almost looks like it's brushed on. Steph, is that a gold-leaf Bull's Eye??? That's a sweet one mibstified!
  14. Sweet (Gum) photo, Bob. I like the orange peel looking texture of the glass upper right - Vacor? lol
  15. I am trying to get some perspective on the "cane". How big is the marble? What it the diameter of the shaft? Might it be a pre-laser pointer?

    Bird Is The Word

Nice pic, Bob. The bird does look like it's posing for you - rewarding patience, perhaps?
  17. The cane is nice. Keep us posted on your listings!
  18. That is a super box and it appears to be in great condition too - very nice.

    Modern Marble Kings

This is nice, Edna - thanks. You have some great examples. Are those AV Cat's Eyes the ones they called Pixie Dusts or something? I got a couple of outstanding ones from Beri at the Sistersville show a few years back. All this MK talk reminded me of the piece Beri did on the Colbert Report a few years ago. It was a pretty entertaining little segment: http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/h0bv7g/america-s-job-loss---beri-fox.

I agree that control of size during production was not that precise but I think your 41/64" mib would sort with the #1s and not the #0s, if they were sorting for size. At least that is how I understand it.

It seems that the way they sized marbles, #000 would have to fit through a 1/2" hole, so would not be any larger than that, while #00 would be any that would not go through a 1/2" hole but would fit through a 9/16" hole. I thought that was why someone decided peewees had to be 1/2" or less, because it was the smallest sizing hole vintage manufacturers used for toy marbles. There may have been smaller sizes for special commercial applications, but I don't think I have ever seen reference to a #0000 toy marble.
