Greg, For me it was a good show. I sold more than I have at any show in ten years. From $475 for a ground pontil Leighton (Greiner) to $15 for a 1" brown Bennington. Kind of spanned the market. Sold several nice christensen Agates and a few handmades. I seemed to have good room traffic when I had the door open. I did pick up several great onionskins and a 2-15/32 single pontil cloud and a 1-13/16 naked capped double ribbon latticino. Traffic until 11:00 most nights. Not the all night party that it used to be 15 years ago at the Lennox Inn. Got to see some old friends and aquaintances that I hadn't seen in a couple years. Bill

Jeroen, Another Great and unusual marble for our enjoyment. Thanx. At a show years ago I did have the oportunity to see what appeared to be a banded lutz that had a white latticino core. It was definetly an interesting marble but had little eye appeal and really didn't appear to be intentional whereas yours obviously was done as part of the design. The one I saw made me think of the onionskins that will occasionally have a core which I think was just not wasting glass by the maker. Bill

Layered Sand, Need The Ca Pros To Take A Look
romanoak replied to marbleus1's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Well, It looks to be of the style and type that showed up in about 2001. They sure didn't all fit the title "exotics" and some had issues. Most common issues I saw were annealing fractures. I'm kind of glad to see the use of "layered sand" as that term had been around for quite some time in the christensen agate collectors world. It seemed that all of a sudden the internet boards took over and now they are sand layers. I've gone through hundreds of striped opaques and transparents over the years and this one I wouldn't place outside the norms of what I have seen based on pics which to an old pre internet collector like me is an exercise in futility. Don't condemn or confirm anything without having it in hand and then that may not be a sure thing. Bill -

Unbelievable--This Is A Heads Up!
romanoak replied to leroy65's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
So big polished jabos look just like AKRO red slags. Is that good or is that bad? Slags have always been a bit murky to ID and the usual answer on ones in question is they are likely AKRO. Maybe the answer is bot good and bad. A red slag that is better than the original jabo and bad because red slags are collectible and now a "NEW" red slag to watch out for. Bill -
here are some big slags all 1-3/8" or bigger. I did buy a 1-1/4 amber at Canton for$125 so they are out there.

Wonder how long his list of blocked bidders is? I'm on it I had the nerve to return a polished marble. Bill

Danny Turner "RUNNING RABBIT sold that marble about 10 years ago for $3250. It seemed foolish to have the auction on the same day as the show. I was at the show and phone bid to little success. A 2"+ black clam 8.8 condition brought $5500 + buyers commision sure like mine a lot better. So as usual the good stuff sells. Bill

Yea Craig that was (is) mine not for sale "no crazy price":-) I know better than to do that because sometimes somebodies crazier than I am. Bill

Well it looked like it was going to be bust for me. Room traffic was good and I was selling marbles which is not typical for me. I never consider it a good show for me if I come out in the black. I'd like to thank everybody that was willing to sell me some nice mibs to make me go home happy with more mibs and way less money than I came with though there were some tense moments achieving that goal. Special thanx go out to Steve D. and Ron S. for their help. I may approach shows differently than some I like to set up a nice display in the room of my collection for the enjoyment of all who care too look. Selling a few is OK but not the goal. Bill

The color combination I was referring to was fluorescent white base, minty green and orange. Sorry if cause for confusion. Bill

I,m looking at three flames/swirls with the color combination of #2(white minty green and orange) Have been in my christensens for years. I also have a striped opaque with the same colors. The white base on all four fluoresces. Tried to post the other day but been having issues with the DSL. IMHO these are christensens Like to see the one posted in hand as it sure looks like mine. Bill

Hi Hansel, I didn't get to see them in hand but pics weren't convincing when they sold. Didn't feel confident enough to bid so glad to hear your impression. Bill
-
Mike it came out of England.
-
Just got this. 12" board with 15/16- 1" swirls all mint original box for the board and original box for the marbles. 16 same cane red and white solid cores, 7 same cane divided cores, 5 same cane green and yellow solid cores, 3 same cane white latts. I've never seen a board this size with the original boxes. Bill

Agree with Galen. The bidding history shows that the underbidder put in an automatic bid days earlier and the winning bidder did the same a couple hours before the auction end. So not a bidding war at the end just 2 bidders that both wanted that item. Why???? Bill

This has to be an odd ball that turned out pretty amazing. A three lobed tow layer (submarine) is a great mib but the bubble that surrounds the pontil is below the surface. Not any effect on the surface. Bill
