  1. I was at this show a couple of times. Great fun. Don't miss it!!! Someday my kids will be grown and out of the house and I can go to marble shows again.
  2. Interesting. Someone emailed me on Friday and asked why I don't give a grade of 10 to any of the contemporaries that I sell on Ebay, the highest is 9.9. My response was that I never grade any marble as 10.0 because you can always find some defect with a 10x loupe.
  3. Marble Auction #1111 closes on Sunday December 7. The catalogue is currently available on iCollector at http://www.icollector.com/Marble-Auction-1111_as34379 . You can register for the auction and bid at that site. You can download a pdf version of the catalogue and see full instructions at http://www.marblecollecting.com/marble-auctions/block-s-marble-cyberauctions/ Unlike previous auctions, this auction is a Timed Auction. What that means is that it operates like an Ebay auction, except that each lot will not close until no bid has been received for 10 minutes after the closing time on December 7. This way, bidders cannot be sniped. This auction consists of 203 lots from six consignors. Included are another 100+ items from the Joe Rocco collection, and a number of marbles and related items salvaged from The Marble Wreck shipwreck described in the book "Wreck Alley III". In the postings below, I'll include a few images.
  4. Well, at least up to about 5 years ago, I haven't heard in a while from the company that was making these.
  5. This type of bead was made by machine from about 1920 until now
  6. One of the three that orbboy sent has some clear glass. It glows light yellow-green. The Bulgarians that I have do not glow.
  7. Three of these were sent to me by orbboy to review. They are genuine.
  8. Is the stippling in the paper actual indentations, or printed?
  9. blue moons is a name made up by marble collectors
  10. They are all pretty "seedy". A lot more tiny air bubbles inside than you see in Akros.
  11. Here is the inside with the marbles. I'm not sure if you can see it well in the images, but the marbles are two-seam translucent white with semi-opaque white filaments running inside from seam to seam, and they are opalescent.
  12. Here's the top of a Christensen Agate Moon box that came in on consignment recently
  13. Interestingly, 4 of the 5 rows of 5 marbles are double corkscrews, and the last row of 5 are patches (Royals?)
  14. I got an Imperials box in the mail the other day on consignment (along with a Christensen Agate Moonies box). I'll image the top and the marbles tonight and post them here.

  16. There was an article in the business section of today's Boston Globe about marble collecting and the Northeast Marble Meet. http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2014/10/20/for-marble-have-you-lost-your-you-know-what/8fTIioRogDClmSBmntUonI/story.html
  17. LOL. I do have some of the individual Sparklers available from the box that the dealer broke up, if anyone has any interest. Send a PM.
