  1. It would only reach those levels because someone wanted a piece of Marblealan's collection. It's a Chad Valley, not a Spears. You're looking at 5/8" bright swirls, so those are realistically selling these days in the $20 or so range. And the box and board alone would sell usually for $50-$75, maybe $100. Add in that these sets usually sell at a discount to the separated value. So, anything above $700 or so is strictly nostalgia.
  2. Saw one at SeaTac this past Friday. The dealer was asking $200
  3. The odds of find a Vitro confetti in the wild are pretty close to nil I would think
  4. A number of us have talked in the past about trying to do appraisals similar to coins or baseball cards, but there a number of logistical problems with that, not the least of which is that you can't hold the marble after it's encased in a holder, and also that marbles come in a larger variety of sizes than coins or cards. I have done written appraisals of collections in the past. But I charge $100 an hour for a written appraisal and can work through about 20 or so marbles an hour, so it's usually a pretty high-end collection. I've offered online identification via text or email since early 2014 via my website. I've responded to just under 15,000 texts since then. I would say 95% of the images I am sent are of Vacor de Mexico or Imperial Manufacturing

  6. Excellent detail on the sulphide. Usually there are obscuring air bubbles on these complex ones
  7. The MCSA began publishing newsletters quarterly in July 1975. It has done so continuously since. I'm just finishing up the Spring newsletter now. Number 163 I think.
  8. It pertains to handmade marbles.
  9. Bonux was a brand of soap. I have a little girl made out of soap holding one of these tucked under her arm.
  10. Brushed was the original term we used back in the late 1980s and early 1990s and it was eventually replaced with the term veneered, which is a more accurate description of the process.
  11. I hadn't heard. That's terrible
  12. You have to get someone to buy it first, looks like that one is still open :-)
  13. Was looking at a few items in Bertoia's auction on Live Auctioneers this week. 25.5% buyers premium!
  14. That was me and I was outbid at the last moment. Go figure!@$#
  15. There are some auctioneers on LiveAuctioneers now who charge 24% buyers premium
  16. Oooh, I wanted that one. Nice marble.
  17. And my favorites are the caskets with the handcut agate spheres as the feet. Sometimes you see these boxes with the feet snipped off, which I think is criminal.
  18. And picked these up a couple of weeks ago. Handcut Agate spheres that have fittings so they can be used as buttons. These are likely 1850-1880. The seven black ones are a complete set (there's 7 in a set). The brown set is incomplete :-(
  19. Not an agate sphere, but here's an interesting bookmark with carnelian agate handle that I picked up yesterday. These are fairly common, but this is the first one I've gotten that has a snake wrapped around the handle
