It's just marbles. The box is about 4 inches square. I think they assumed you had the board. -

Unfortunately, just putting in lutz or adding an unusual color is kind of like having a secret handshake that the newbies aren't keyed in on. Scratching something on the very bottom is innocuous in my humble opinion and does not detract at all from the marble. Intentionally producing a marble that is almost identical to an antique, and that would be indistinguishable from an antique to the lay person, and trying to claim that you're just trying to highlight your skill-set is a cop out. People have been making that argument for 20 years and it just does not ring true. Again, in my humble opinion. You don't have to put a huge scrawled signature on the bottom. You do like some other artists, Dale Danowski comes to mind, who mimic antique styles, and put a tiny monogram or other indication on the bottom. -

36th Northeast Marble Meet - October 10 & 11, 2015 The 36th Northeast Marble Meet began on a wet note. Early evening on Friday, at the height of rush hour in central Connecticut, the heavens opened up and provided a deluge, slowing down the arrival of those attendees who had not gotten an early start to the 3-day holiday weekend. This didn't stop those intrepid collectors who were at the hotel from engaging in brisk room-hopping during the evening. Some real treasures changed hands Friday night. Saturday morning the auction viewing began at 9AM. The auction consisted of 225 lots of handmade, machine made and contemporary marbles and related ephemera. It was carried live on iCollector, as well as in the auction room at the hotel. Over 100 online and live bidders competed for the lots in the auction. The two highest bid items in the auction were Lot 220 and Lot 221, a Solid Core Swirl and a Single Pontil Onionskin, both just under 2-1/2". Some highlights of the realized prices (including 10% buyer premium) were: Lot 220: Swirl. 3-Layer Solid Core. 2-7/16". M- 9.2 $ 715.00 Lot 221: End of Day. Single Pontil Onionskin. 2-7/16". NM+ 8.9 $ 715.00 Lot 225: Original Lucky Boy Marble Pouch $ 253.00 Lot 36: Christensen Agate Company. Diaper Fold. 21/32". M- 9.2 $ 231.00 You can download the full catalogue with realized prices below. The auction ended in mid-afternoon and was followed by the annual meeting of the Marble Collectors Society of America. The MCSA is the oldest and largest marble club in the world and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The Board of the MCSA passed a resolution thanking Stanley Block (founder of the MCSA) for his 40 years of service as Chairman of the Society and thanking Claire Block for her 40 years of service as Secretary. Both retired from the Society this year. MCSA financial statements and plans for the upcoming year were also discussed at the meeting. While some attendees took a break from room-hopping to take a drive and enjoy the colors of the changing leaves, and a trip to Lyman Orchards for fresh apple cider and apple cider donuts, the late afternoon and evening saw very spirited room trading on the second floor of the hotel (where the attendees were located). On Sunday, the Marble Show itself was held in the Nutmeg room. 32 dealers and organizations filled 40 tables. Highlights are pictured below. Traffic through the exhibit room was brisk throughout the day, only dropping off during the last hour of the show. Almost two hundred people attended the show. Highlights of the show included the exhibit of "Treasures from the Marble Collectors Society of America Collection". The theme this year was Marble Tournament Awards and the exhibit included a 1929 Championship bronze statue from the National Marbles Tournament, a silverplated loving cup awarded to the 1930 North Jersey Champion, and an award trophy from a school tournament in 1962. At 10am we observed a moment of silence for Bert Cohen, who managed the show from 1985 to last year. The MCSA also presented honor awards to Stanley and Claire Block for their 40 years of service to the Society. Among the many marbles changing hands at the show were two Peltier Glass Company Blue Galaxies in Mint condition, and a No. 1 Peltier Glass Company (Gropper) National Line Milkies box. Numerous other rare and beautiful handmade, machine made and contemporary marbles changed hands. Both collectors and dealers expressed their satisfaction with the show and their transactions. There were door prize drawings at the top of every hour, to the enjoyment of all (especially the winners).

These are both real. You don't need a black light to tell. The #2 has been heavily polished

Bump. 10 days til the Meet. Still a couple of exhibitor tables available. Full auction catalogue on iCollector. See links above -
I'm pretty sure that the marble has to be fluorescent to be an Ade. As Ric said, the Cornelians look like bricks, but aren't really "oxbloody"

I've started posting the auction catalogue for this show. The link is http://www.icollector.com/auction.aspx?as=38974 If you are planning on reserving a room at the discounted rate, you need to do it by September 23. After that date, the hotel will release the block of rooms. There is a large Wesleyan University geology conference at the hotel on Columbus Day weekend, so the hotel will likely be filled. I have a few exhibitor tables still available. You can find the hotel reservation link, table reservation and paypal link, and other info at http://www.marblemeet.com -

That's an insane price. I picked up a Mint Indian Lutz for $150, so go figure. -
Hi ... Marble People ... Need Help ...

The bottom is a purple goldstone sphere. The top two are fiber optic, as someone else already mentioned -
It's psychological. If there is no reserve then people start the bidding low because you think that (even subconsciously) you're going to get it cheap, then as the bidding goes up, you are already emotionally invested in the piece and keep on bidding so the other guy/gal can't get it. Also, bidding activity tends to cause more bidding, because it causes people to think that the item is something special if there is so much interest in it. Generally an item will sell for more if it has no reserve, than if it has a reserve.

The 36th Northeast Marble Meet is scheduled once again for Columbus Day Weekend, October 10th & 11th, 2015. The show has been moved this year to the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell Connecticut, which is at the base of the Exit 21 ramp on I-95. About 20 minutes south of Hartford. There will be a 225 lot marble auction on Saturday afternoon (October 10) with viewing that morning. The auction will be conducted live, with absentee and live online bidding via icollector.com . The catalogue will be posted around September 15. On Sunday (October 11) is the marble show, with 40 dealer tables. Room-hopping gets into full swing on Friday and continues during the weekend. Visit the Marble Meet website at www.marblemeet.com for full information If you would like to reserve a hotel room at the discounted rate, then you need to contact the hotel by September 21. There will likely not be rooms available after that date because Wesleyan University is hosting a large academic geology conference that weekend at the hotel. Contact information for the hotel is at the link above. If you would like a dealer table at the show, then you can reserve one using the link on the site above. NE 2015 flyer.pdf

I have a small figurine of a girl made out of soap holding a Bonux marble under her arm. I'll try and dig out an image

I haven't looked at ebay, but got a message from the guy last night that he had removed it and he apologized. No explanation, but I guess you can't expect that from someone whom you addressed as "Hey, a**hole". Thanks for the heads up folks.

Mines a stoneware, and her's is a beat up Bennington. Pretty funny, since I append BB Marbles to mine because it means Bob Block's Marbles. I guess I'll send her a nastygram

New England Marble Show. October..questions?
BobBlock replied to greenvwbug's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I am running the show this year. I ran it with Bert the past three years. I'm not sure the email address you've been trying, but my email is [email protected] The show website is www.marblemeet.com The show facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/NEMarbleMeet It will be Oct 10-11 at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell CT. This is directly off the exit ramp at Exit 21. Email me any questions you have, or post them here and I'll respond. -
The Jolly Roger name was applied as a homage to Roger Hardy. The Claudia name actually came about later, not at the same time. The corkscrews (Jolly Rogers) were really sought after early on. The patches (Claudias) were a hard sell for a long time.

The pontil, if nothing else, gives it away
-
Roger sold these about 25 years ago. He had 27 or 28 of the Jolly Rogers (1-1/8") and a more substantial quantity of the Claudias (1-1/8"). He sold all the Jolly Rogers fairly quickly, but I remember him bringing the Claudias to shows for a few years before they all sold. The name Jolly Roger and Claudia was applied to them much later, I think the first place the name showed up was in one of Danny Turner's catalogue or maybe Alan popularized it, I can't remember. But it had to be 5-8 years after Roger had sold them out. Roger did not apply that name to them, that was done by collectors later.

It's a resin. These have been around for about 20 years. They are more predominant in England than here. There's at least 5 different designs. I'm sure there's a thread on here that discussed these before, perhaps one of the more intrepid marbleconnection-nauts can scare it up
