Perfect. Also, I don`t know what exactly is used in "Burma Glass" that makes it light up under UV - probably uranium too - but some of the JABO special runs used it (I think from Fenton?) and glow like crazy. The Ultra Run comes to mind . . .

I wondered if anyone else felt like that - I do the same, having long ago concluded that I could never be a collector of high-end CACs, but that shouldn`t stop me from having any. So I have a few - also less than 30-40, if I count the slags - but there`s a few nice little electric SOs in there, not perfect but good enough for me, and three pairs of guinea halves (colorless, cobalt, amber), along with a couple of barely-there cobra halves and so forth . . . and it makes me pretty happy.

X 3, bo, mostly. Not a MCS, anyway. It`s a little weird, in the way that I like. Wouldn`t mind having it myself.

I know that it depends on the particular glass formulae involved - for instance uranium was seen as a colorant that would produce a vaseline-colored yellow, but I doubt it was known to fluoresce under UV at that time. Same for magnesium - known and used as a colorant in certain formulae, but without the knowledge that it would fluoresce under UV.

The orangey - pink glow is usually from magnesium - And yes, a nice PPP.

First one is absolutely a Pelt feathered slag - I have a terrible weakness for them. The green one is going to take some more staring at. Don`t remember seeing anything quite like it before. Fun! A new mystery mib!

Thanks, Emily - and fudge and a new marble really DO help!

Absolutely my pleasure!

Yesterday afternoon I got my first marble mail in six years - a new Champion Furnace Swirl - and an old friend stopped by with a baggie full of his homemade fudge after he heard I`d been in the hospital with pneumonia, and I spent the rest of the afternoon with fudge and coffee trolling through the Archives. What a pleasure! Found old threads I`d forgotten about and some I`d never seen before - such beautiful marbles. One I`d forgotten about that I started "Calling All Cat`s-Eyes,"with such beautiful kitties; another I had completely forgotten about even though I had participated in it about the old (and some new) stone agates; and one remarkable one on Asian Patches I`d never seen before - lots of fantastic marbles posted by our old friend Winnie in Amsterdam. Just looking at page after page of wonderful marbles was so extremely pleasant I`m going to do the same thing this afternoon (with coffee and fudge), and I hope you all take a break like that in the Archives very soon. It`s so refreshing. No puzzling over what something is (or not) - just pure pleasure. It`s what we`re all here for, after all, and I can pretty much guarantee that you`ll find yourself smiling while doing so. Thanks, Steph, for saving all this from oblivion . . .

MFC to me.

And rightfully so! It looks like it`s the top for the "Marvelous Cold Cream" jar - is that right? If so, it would be perfectly at home on a lady`s dresser . . .

I remember all too well what Alan is talking about. I left for a long time too. Questioning IDs and so forth isn`t what Alan or I mean by "stirring the pot." It was not honest inquiry. It was vicious. Antagonistic. Insulting. And many other unpleasant adjectives as well. Some of the people that were involved would shock you. All best forgotten - trust me on this one.
-
I`ll have to check - been awhile since I`ve looked at them - but Art Jones put together a few fantasy boxes of some weird yellow Pelts called Smileys, and when I first hit them with UV they had this same "film" of orange, with seams. Don`t know the reason - seems excessive to think they were coated somehow (doesn`t copper glow orange under UV? Can`t remember offhand). Very strange.

And this particular guy is one of them. And I agree, it was not Scott Patrick, either then or now.
-
Also a possibility is what`s called German nickle silver - it dosen`t tarnish like silver - and a light coat of enamel. I`d say it`s more probable than silver on this type of lid.
-
What`s his name Alan, before I lose the rest of my grip on reality? ? Well, I do that sometimes, anyway. But I don`t like the sensation much.
-
I have a similar one, but like yours it doesn`t seriously blast you with UV - so - regrettably - I don`t consider mine a Green Fizz. At least going by the descriptions above about the UV effect on the Fizz.
-
Yes, they do. But not this guy`s. He`s too good. Now we need a Bat Signal for Alan to come back . . . .
-
Yes, same guy. Name is driving me crazy. Have read about his "guineas" within the past two weeks, I know. Frighteningly good.
-
I`ve read that too, but I can`t remember the name, offhand. Alan probably does.
-
Whoa. Nice surprise.
