  1. Hey, I think I'm halfway respectable and I've been dealing and collecting for 20 years and I still get bashed. I'm afraid it is equal opportunity bashing out here on the frontiers of cyberspace; you don't need no credentials to wind up taking it in the ear. Actually I think the real frontiers are in sites like Second Life. We're just bumbling around here. David
  2. Hey, I don't need no stinkin' agreements; I'm taking this one on by myself. Like a friend just told me, to face life boldly, all you need is high heels and a dream. Let them have fun with that one! David
  3. Amazing! I think there has been a total avoidance of how I concluded the initial Post to this thread. But really, and call it brazen confidence if you will, I never see the need for its use; you just step up to the plate and take your swings and you hit or miss. David
  4. Just spotted this thread. Not too long ago I gave one of my grandkids a bag of these. I don't have any examples at hand as most of my Vacor marbles are much older. And I can surely say that I've never seen anything quite like this amongst my Jabos. David
  5. I missed it too and I had a separate and cordial exchange with Marie. Maybe we need specifics......David
  6. As for relevance I believe you will find that IMHO is used in just about every other Post on the marble boards when opinions are expressed and some use it as a regular mantra. One begins to think that maybe it means a lot more than just IMHO. David
  7. Not a heck of a lot more. Even with 36 years on the bag All Reds are still low on the totem pole. David
  8. Huh? I don't suppose anyone noted how I ended that Post. Sarcasm, funning, etc. David
  9. Whenever I see 'IMHO' I immediately look over my shoulder because I just know know someone is gaining on me and their opinion is anything but humble. This 'IMHO' is being used to distraction, IMHO ..........David Chamberlain
  10. There is absolutely nothing whatsoever Miller about this marble. This guy is talking through the top of his head. I'm beginning to think that people are becoming Miller-Mad! David
  11. I have seen Peltier feathered slags in a Peltier bag but only one or two mixed in with other bonifide Peltier marbles but it has been so remote that I cannot bring it into focus. David
  12. By the way, I really hate posting on this thread because it seems so pretentious to Post on a thread that has as it's subject title: IDLE QUESTION FOR AN 'EXPERT!' I am still very much in the woods when it comes to many marble subjects. David
  13. In the early 1990s on my way from New England to the Columbus OH show I set up at the NY Airport semi-annual A&C show but my first evening I went shopping before sleeping in my ever trusty '84 Buick Le Sabre (currently at 288,200 miles). Chanced upon a bottle of mostly Peltier marbles varying in size from 5/8" to 3/4". A couple doz. of the 3/4" ones were 'Miller Marbles.' At the OH show they created quite a sensation and were recognized by all as Miller Marbles. I've been convinced ever since too! David
  14. I suppose it is a purposeful design choice but 'open pontils' I've always found as detracting from the overall aesthetics of a marble. Granted it's a perfect circle 'open pontil.' David
  15. Hi, Been watching this. Tried to email but I do not have an access account with eBay. I think eBay should be contacted and advised of the previous fake having been sold for $6100 + numerous 'experts' attesting to its fakeness and that another one is being offered presently. I could if anyone wants send a Priority Letter to the eBay Investigations Unit in San Jose. They were responsive to my enquiries a few years ago.....surprisingly! I continue to be amazed that Hansel and whoever else was involved in the manufacture of these marbles would have allowed them to be manufactured in the first place and then without some serious identification markings. It's downright criminal. By the way, I, of course, have Baumann's book with the CA sulphide info., plus the ACRN newsletter as well as almost all of the various research effort papers that surrounded that upheaval. I still intend to do an article on the subject but have yet to convince someone to give up one of the sulphides for a Destructive Analysis by a Prof. at NYU. Still working on that. Paul Baumann was so much concerned over this entire matter that he was passing out at the Columbus Show copies of the ACRN newsletter. The entire matter is very much contentious to this day with fairly heavy hitters in the world of marbles coming down on both sides of the issue and some of us still relatively inconclusive over it. Gotta go. Bringing the White Fronted Amazon to the Vet for beak trimming. David
  16. Hi Gene, You might want to consider the Oct. 9-11, 2009 Badger Marble Club Show in Madison, WI. Nothing like a hands-on marble experience to get you off and running. I'm sure you can find specifics about attending at some of the marble boards: contacts, hotel, and such. David
  17. Buying what you like and condition are the best bets for a not so knowledgable collector then if you find out later that what you got wasn;t what you thought it was or you paid too much at least you like it and it doesn't have any damage. Maxims to live by! David
  18. There are no pictures. I haven't even progressed to that stage in my computer 'expertise' (Ha!). I did mention that if you would like me to send you a photograph I will mail one USPS. In due course I will get it together to post pics online. My HP Color LaserJet 4 in 1 has been in and out of the shop since January 2009 and they have finally declared it a lemon but are trying to give me a new one without a full Warranty Contract. Like, what's up with that! Also as stated and in all cases Full Return Privilege if not completely satisfied. David
  19. O.K. I enter the crass commercial world of marble sales on the net. By golly this is the very first time I have made the effort in a concerted fashion. Anyway, Felicia sort of provided me with motivation over at Marble Mental plus I'd have to say the general lack of activity there as well so I've Posted eight(8) items in the Horse Tradin' Forum. Joe Bob says, "Check 'em out!" David
  20. I can only guess at what you paid but I would have to say, "SCORED!" David
  21. I am going to commit a major marble career about-face! Ever since I've specifically referred to Christensen flames as 'Flames' which they truly deserve and all other wannabe flames as 'flame-like.' Well, Alley Agate Co. flames deserve the full-blown attribution of being bonifide Flames as well. Alley Agate Co. has truly come into its own. David
  22. I have found the same condition circumstances in the three Experimental Runs where I was an Investor. The actual approximate quantities per Experimental Run were more along the lines of 90,000 to 150,000. This has been attested to in the books pertaining to these runs and by the individuals at the various runs fairly accurately based on boxed quantities of the 3/4" marbles. Davod
  23. And then there's Jabo Land. That ought to give you a running start. David
  24. I've never been in the race for serious CACs but this one has to be in the winners circle. You just do not see aventurine in Christensen Agate Co. flames! That aventurine would definitely trump aesthetics in value consideration. David
  25. Just being generally elliptical! I have considerable favorites amongst the Joker I, II and III Experimental Runs as well as decent qty. and examples from over 16 Experimental Runs in 2008 and 2009. I'm only somewhat shy about the twists and turns that these Experimental discussions can take therefore I was basically demurring(read Gun Shy), yet I couldn't keep my 'big mouth' shut. David
