Murmelbuch & Glasmurmeln & Andere Murmeln
david Chamberlain replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I would suspect that any bullet mold marbles they might have would be the newer ones and I really didn't mention that in my opinion I don't think the newer ones measure up to the older ones in any fashion. They sort of remind me of fiber optic marbles. David P.S. Kinda like the difference between substance and flash. -
Pre-wwii Czech. Or New Dusseldorf, Germany Bullet-molds?
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in Archives
The new Dussledorf Germany ones just designates that the machines that were used to create the Czech bullet molds went over to Germany after the war. David -
'Round 1998 I had the opportunity to participate in the acquisition of approximately 125 older Czech. bullet-mold marbles, some absolutely gorgeous ones. It was this find in a Monterey, CA thrift shop which actually got the ball rolling for this type of marble and gradually they seemed to come out of the woodwork all around the country. Yet confusion reigned regarding what constituted the old versions and the newer ones. I've had the opportunity to see many examples of both kinds and have put together a crib sheet to aid in differentiating one from the other. Hope this helps you out if you should come up against one or the other. A. The old are almost exclusively opaque whereas the new are uniformly semi-translucent. B. The old have a scattered or random color application whereas the new have a repetitive and uniform pattern to the color application. C. The old have the color applied to the surface over the matrix color whereas the new have the repetitive color pattern right below the surface. D. The old have a semi-gloss surface sheen whereas the new have what can best be described as a flat latex surface look, almost a sand-blasted appearance, The paint terminology pretty much sizes them up. I'm sure you could add more differences but this should give you a running start. David Chamberlain

I know that those are the Katzenjammer Kids diving towards the bag of marbles but is that Henry running a close second? Great ad. "Snowflakes" is one of Dave McCullough's general term for marbles other than that I don't have a clue. David

Ot: Laughter Versus Logic (an Adult Topic)
david Chamberlain replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
We teach by example and especially on a Marble Board where access is available to anyone with a modicum of computer skills one would hope that the reigning rule (principle) would be Responsibility and Respect. After all at its core marbles are a kids sport. David Chamberlain -
It would be worth it for the marble PR! David

Isn't This Vacor, Not Peltier?
david Chamberlain replied to m!b$'s topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Duh! That's exactly right 29/32" is indeed a little more than 7/8" not 7/8"-. My point though and I should have mentioned it was that this was not a standard size for Vacor weather 7/8" + or -. I've a lot of Vacor including a couple Guadalahara factory sets + numerous ones supplied to me by Pete at Land of Marbles.....and like them in the main because they have caught on with the kids. You can't resist them; they're like candy! David Chamberlain -

Hi Bob, I'd go MFC as well but for an especially nice and well illustrated crib sheet for crease pontil identification go over to Marvelous Mibs (Stress Free) Marble Board and click on "crease pontil web page" provided by browse4antiques (Roger Browse). And you can reference this for any enquiries. Personally I consider grey an unusual color and it should enhance value. David Chamberlain -
Killer marble! Offer it to corporate at a Price. David

Isn't This Vacor, Not Peltier?
david Chamberlain replied to m!b$'s topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I believe 29/32" would incline one to think it less likely to be Vacor. I like the movement on this marble and being a shy less than 7/8" leaves me thinking Peltier. David C. -
New Marble Lamp In The Family!
david Chamberlain replied to triker's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
There's something about Popsicle sticks and childhood marbles that are a natural. David -
Hi Craig, I just know a few people who have them; not necessarily anyone who is specifically selling. They are pricey! I was at the Los Angeles show in the early 1990s when they first made their appearance. I am presently attempting to obtain one myself for 'destructive analysis' by a glass Professor and glass expert at NYU. I've been toying with the idea of an update article on them. And yes, they are a contentious subject! David C

david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hey Mike B. I truly apologize that you took offense at my less than delicate turn-around phrasing of your use of 'fool.' I was clearly off base in a missguided attempt to be cutesy. Honestly, although not the best way to put a foot forward I'd always thought that "being a whore for something/anything" was just an exaggeration of a serious inclination/interest. Thanks for bringing me to task on this. David -
Marble King Of America, Scott Patrick
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I swear a lot of these people are totally out of the loop as if they're living in their own cloistered world and what goes on beyond the borders of their keyboard has no effect upon them whatsoever. This is just two(2) threads at Marble Connection and there are 100 pages with 20-30 threads per page. How many of you have wandered through past threads for information, etc.? Oh, I might add that the Administrator of Marble Connection himself has been a prime target of Scott Patrick and Galen has just sailed along blissfully in those threads at Marble King of America when Lou and his Family have been trashed time and time again. Marble King Of America, Scott Patrick
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Well, I suppose there are a few other threads available that might appeal to you. To characterize this as a personal vendetta belittles the magnitude of the problem but I suppose that makes it easy for those of you who do not see beyond yourselves and how the greater marble community has been afflicted by this for quite some time and most recently this past week. I suppose it's too much to expect that everyone would evince moral indignation and finally conclude that they had had quite enough of Scott Patrick's and Galen's behavior. You will destroy this marble board and any other by lying down and continuing to let them roll over you. Truth! You don't want the truth! David Chamberlain -

Clearly overlooked is that with Freedom of Speech comes responsibility something that does not exist at MKA and which Galen regularly overlooks. Pete would drop him in a flash if Pete was more than dollars and cents but Pete prefers to look the other way as long as Galen doesn't bring his trash to Land of Marbles. Pete should be ashamed. It is not easy to say this about Pete as he has been a friend going back 10 years and when he had close to 2000 email subscribers to his Marble Newsletter I was the only one receiving a hard copy, but Galen uses his 'status' there as cover for his multiple ills elsewhere. Pete banned him once and would prefer to do so again. Heck, he even asked me if I would jump in but I prefer to contribute to the marble world in a manner other than technical....computer skills I surely do not have. Those of you who know me are aware of my considerable contributions in the field of marbles. You say this is only a long-standing battle-grudge between Patrick and I and I shouldn't be bringing it here. How narrow in your thought processes! Since the early 1990s Patrick has been purposely fabricating marble reproductions and was quite frank about his motivations. He had it in for what he perceived as the marble establishment which had it in for him. He clearly stated that he wanted to ruin certain marble markets and early on he did indeed mess considerably with Transitionals w/oxblood. Later he went on to other marble types. Numerous marble personages (Beverly Brule, Bert Cohen, etc.) attempted to talk some sense into him. Danny Turner and I spoke to him in the mid-1990s and told him he was wasting his 'talent' as at the time Scott Strassberger was selling his marbles for something like $15 ea. or 2 for $25. We tried to convince him that signing his work would bring respect. Fat chance. I can characterize him at that time by his standing in the courtyard area of the Reynoldsburg OH show and yelling up at Marlow & Larry's room, and calling Larry Castle a "Fat F---!" That's your Free Speech boy. Obviously he hasn't changed a bit; he just has a wider forum. You all talk freedom of speech but you do not appear to have the least idea of what it implies. Ever hear of civility? David Chamberlain -

Let's see......"truths need to be told" and MKA is a last resort for them. You are deluded. It's as if none of you are aware that as a regular fair over at MKA Lou C. (the Board Administrator here in case you've forgotten) is trashed, not just Lou but his wife as well in the most vile manner. Are these the truths you are defending? Get real! David -

Christensen?.....dream on! I think Steph has it properly pegged as modern Chinese. It's the right size. Who is this person who keeps auctioning these marbles? Someone go after him! David P.S. What was that opening bid? $99 Give me a break! -
The cat's-eye probably Vitro with 5 vanes; I'm assuming moderately wavy vanes. The Brushed & Patched Transparent also Vitro and the Blackie Vitro as well. Obviously during Vitro's heyday. Found marbles; what we live for! David

Hi Clyde ol' buddy, As computer savvy and knowledgeable marble-wise as you are you know not whereof you speak when it comes to Galen. Yes, you two are East SF Bay marble compatriots but on these Boards over the past year and then some Galen has diluted whatever reputation he may ever have had by lies, innuendoes, and viscous and cruel tactics directed towards many of my friends. How you can manage to see a need for something like MKA is beyond belief. Do you really believe that what happens there is isolated to that Board? It has a direct influence and bearing on the lives of good marble souls throughout the marble community. And I am absolutely non-plussed that no one so far has acknowledged the danger the Board might have on impressionable minds; evidently so far those impressionable minds belong to so called 'adults.' And I am equally amazed that Marble King marble enthusiasts haven't long before this expressed outrage at the hijacking of the name of their beloved company. By the way, I want the SOB Patrick's physical address so that Marble King, Inc. can go after him and so that I can bring criminal action more effectively. Please email [email protected] David Chamberlain P.S. Sorry Clyde but you do not want to tangle with me on this one! -

Unfortunately you people just don't get it. And Al you especially. I do not understand when it has been your partner at Land of Marbles who has so indelicately brought this mess over to Marble Connection from MKA. Just see how much traction he would get if he attempted to do the same on Pinx's, Pete's or Lizzy's board. Galen would be dropped like a hot potato. At least Lou has finally given him enough rope to hang himself with; it was downright incredibly seeing Galen tying the knot himself. You people have your head in the sand if you think everything will be hunky-dory. No one is inviolate with Galen as Scott Patrick's handmaiden. Wake up and smell the ---- as MKA is putting it already in your own backyard and just try and convince the doz. or so regulars on this board that time and time again have been slandered, abused and treated abysmally. Oh, let me guess. You are maybe suggesting that we take it to Patrick on his own Board. Little chance of that. Heck, I was banned there and I've never posted at MKA, only attempted to validate what I'd been told was being said about me and others. And would I care to Post if allowed. NO! But you find it distasteful because I defend good people on this board as it rattles your sensitivities and challenges you to confront an Evil in our midst. Give me a break! David Chamberlain
