Hi, Thought I'd weigh in on this. Gary's are likely Vacor. Definitely not Vitro Anacortes or Vitro/Lewis Moore. Keep in mind that he Vitro Anacortes were 9/16" and 9/16"+. I've commented on Griff's photo montage w/arrows previously. Only the two smaller ons on the right are Vacor Anacortes. The others are up for grabs(Vacor or Asian). Can't wait to get fully in operation so that I can post pics. I've got marbles! David Chamberlain

This is a nice recap on the marbles and as I said in the separate thread right next to this those shown in American Machine-Made Marbles (2006) are in Patry's collection. They would be hard to confuse with Vacor's confetti style marbles. But Lewis Moore's confetti marbles were more easilt confused with the Vacor confetti marbles. When I finally get up and running I will put up photographs of the various 1980s/early 90s Vacor confetti types. David

Did Any Company Besides Vacor, Make Frit Mibs?
david Chamberlain replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The photograph in the American Machine-Made Marbles book (2006) by Johnson, Metzler & Six on the pg. noted above should give you a clear idea as to the style of the Vitro Anacortes confetti marbles. They are so much different than Vacor it's hard to imagine anyone making a mistake in identification unless they were a rank amateur/novice. Those were mine and I sold and traded them w/Patry so they are in her collection now. And by the way for anyone who was wondering Patry's marble collection is basically on hold. No present plans. Grandchildren though are a consideration although a detailed inventory of her premiere collection will be necessary as it stands as one of the more important collections in the country. Again, the new tank wash Jabos (9/16" approx.) are also totally different but also with a confetti appearance more than a guinea appearance. They also have goldstone flash throughout in many of them. hopefully this covers most bases. David -
Did Any Company Besides Vacor, Make Frit Mibs?
david Chamberlain replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Yeah, more than likely Vacor de Mexico as the Vitro Anacortes were all recognized varieties(about 6 different ones) and limited to less than 100 each with most of them less than 50 each. Th Jabo confetti(with frit) style were late last month during a tank wash and are all, I believe, in the 9/16" size area with many having a considerable sprinkling of goldstone mostly in speckles all over the marble. Dynamite marbles. Vacor was doing this frit/confetti style in the 1980s and later. I don't know about earlier. I have varieties of them in a special set that the factory sent me around 1992. At the same time they sent me a few of the biggies. The sample set had only 5/8" marbles. David Chamberlain -
I bet there's a lot of crows beautifying their nests and squirrels putting them away for a rainy day! David

I've seen Bert's bag. They're the real thing. Painted clays. No way I'd be able to hold back from going into that bag! David

I'm partial to the Last Dance Run. I think it required a whole different frame of mind to get into it....to understand the marbles they being as dark as they are. Unfortunately some people rejected them right off, out-of-hand, because of that. They required a more sophisticated appreciation of marbles I believe. Then this Foxfire run recently is hellacious! Really most every run has had something to commend it; more than a little something. It has been in some measure a progressive experience and a learning process with continual experimentation. For some this has been overlooked in their intense involvement with specific runs. As the book title says this has been a regular Renaissance in machine-made marble making. David Chamberlain

Let's see, did each marble have a tag attached stating "Not for Children Under the Age of ---?" Not that they'd be able to read anyway! Nothing like 'free range' marbles. David Chamberlain

Some clarification. Those Vacor de Mexico "flames" are actually cat's-eyes of the banana variety at least the first picture noted in this thread. They did actually call them Flamas and they are from the 1980s. Re. Ravenswood Flames. Far and few between! In the over 30,000 that I've had th occasion to go through from the 1987 find in WV I found only a couple that I felt convinced enough to actually sell as Ravenswood Flames. Even in the Ravenswood marbles I've seen from other sources that are unlike the 1987 find there's not all that much to credit the marbles with flame-like action. You've just got to love them for other reasons! Oh, and those Flamas had an irridescence(sp?) to them. David Chamberlain

A highly suspect marble. Hard to believe the seller having the brass to put a similiarly bogus Akro marble up two weeks in a row. Roger and Claudia would reject it out-of-hand! It is flashy but clearly a concocted marble. David Chamberlain

Banned At Marble King Of America
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
When you don't have a reputation in the first place there is nothing to destroy. Hey! I'm outta here for Amana. Matters are presently in the hands of Yuku administration and [email protected]. They seem to be taking considerable concern. David Chamberlain -
Banned At Marble King Of America
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thank you very much Felecia but you missed my clear implication in the Post. It is a distinction and an honor to be banned from that marble board and all the more so for never having participated on it. David -
Yes! I have been banned. It's rather laughable considering I've never posted on the Board. And it's all the more bewildering because in the past two days I've received a threatening email and a harassing email challenging me to some sort of discourse from Scott Patrick without any personal contact on my part. Truly it belittles oneself and you should be ashamed to even participate on his marble board which revels in profanity and libel and traffics on the name of one of the two remaining venerable American marble companies. Which Marble Books Have You Used Recently?
david Chamberlain replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Couldn't begin to enumerate! At least a doz. different ones in the past week alone and totally aside from the compilation for the Marble Bibliography which I posted. It always cracks me up when I hear of a non marble person who has picked up one marble book(for example.....Grist) so as to figure out what they have. And I've gone through half a doz. within the past 24 hours to figure out one marble! David Chamberlain -

Strange bubbles! Looks almost like the vane became degraded or undermined. Odd. And they're actually bubbles? David

Anybody Selling A Pearlized Patch?
david Chamberlain replied to n2marbles's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hi, Sorry. I am presently just borrowing computer time from my friend Dr. Jan. My inherited iBook G4 turned out to be worn out and the new HP Color LaserJet 4 in 1 I bought has been in and out of the shop three times in the past two months. I'll be getting a new Mac LapTop/Notebook right after Amana and hopefully iron out the HP matter but right now I'm imageless. Don't think I've even ever taken a pic. of this marble. Maybe catch you later......David -
Anybody Selling A Pearlized Patch?
david Chamberlain replied to n2marbles's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Sounds like you've connected and got what you're after already but you might want to consider an especially interesting one that I have. It is a Pearlized Whitie! Yup! Not a patch but clearly one of the whities with a full blown green pearlized wrap-around just like a whitie should. I'm bringing it to Amana. Rare in this particular Peltier marble design. Couldn't help talking about it. Only seen the one in 20 years! David Chamberlain -
Dave Mccullough's Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I probably well-advisably missed the intervening Posts but I can well imagine the tone. Obviously we have our separate opinions but after my initial upbeat positive take on the subject I found it exceedingly disappointing how quickly it devolved adversarily as if we were in opposing camps. I'd been told that was the nature of the beast but I'd prayed for something more lofty and I'd hoped that a thoughtful and measured exposition of my thoughts would be met with some respect. It was as if the gauntlet had been thrown down. By the way, I do not need people piling on and providing support; it often lessens the effectiveness of my own response. I'm a big boy and can stand on my own two feet. Anyway, there's enough of this point-counter-point wasting good cyber space! David Chamberlain -
Dave Mccullough's Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I'm suspecting that anyone with a grain of objectivity will quite evidently see how the thread has progressed from exuberantly upbeat to negativity. Is this really what we're aiming for on the Marble Boards? David Chamberlain -

Dave Mccullough's Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to david Chamberlain's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
That you McCaleb? I was wondering when you'd ever chime in. Hey! See you at Amana. David -
I want to say something different about Dave McCullough's marbles. I recently had the pleasure of receiving from Steve Pletcher a group of marbles ranging from 1/2" to 5/8". I must admit I'm clueless as to the run. I need a crib sheet of these Special Runs, Classic Runs, Tank Washes, you name it! Whatever.....there were 144 marbles and if I'd come across anyone of them in the wild ('free range') I'd clearly HAVE TO HAVE IT. No question about it. These marbles are going to stand the test of time. Granted their time is now for anyone with an ounce of sense but for anyone with a knowledge of the sweep of marble history to be immune to their beauty and uniqueness is practically unforgivable. Just like the marble greats of the past who have excelled beyond the 'common marble' Dave McCullough has right here and now created museum quality machine-made marbles that will be sought after, coveted, talked about and praised for years to come. And many of us thought it was over years ago! .....David Chamberlain
-
Seriously questionable! At the very least one can readily see why it was dumped if Akro even had anything to say about it......quality control! I didn't think to see what the record was on the seller. Hopefully this is just ignorance and not subterfuge. That's a marble unlike any I've ever seen before. Gotta be torch work. David Chamberlain

Hi Duffy, Another CONFETTI variety to go up along side the Vacor and the Vitro Anacortes ones. Hey! Got the package and am stoked. About 18 in there with that very fine line goldstone. I'm clear on the Mylee ones just not sure what run the others are from. Where's that thread that I responded to originally when I went all gonzo over them? Will be in touch by mail.....David
