I love marblemansions commentary. Hey! Roy Orbison lives! David Chamberlain

And after that wonderfully detailed explanation by Ron can you imagine that there are still marble people who think that duplicate marbles can simply be made by tossing in the same glass. Amazing! David Chamberlain

The New Furnace Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to nutz4lutz's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hi, Very nice. They almost have a 5/8" feeling to them but I suppose they're 3/4". Where might they be had? Any idea how far along Jabo runs are booked at this time? Re. these marbles - not quite 'furnace' but decidedly worthy. In the flurry of Jabo marbles since the Fall of 2007 some of the finest I've seen were a group of eight pairs(all 5/8") sent to me by Dale Simmons that hearkened back to sand-layered CAC marbles. Pure deadly! Oh, they were from the Nov. 27th, 2007 run or one of the runs right before then. Just popped up a 'stream of consciousness' pc. SORTING PLEASURES on the Board. The Board needs some mellowing out at times! David Chamberlain. P.S. Easier to email me: [email protected] -
I love a disordered, messy jumble of found marbles - they scream out for sorting! There's a therapeutic flow that floods ones mind with a singularity of purpose and the anticipation of recognition, categorization, subsets, variations (Families?), etc .....and finally success in identification even with the 'exceptions' recognizing them as such; knowing that a future sort will reign them in. There's almost a sinful pleasure in the reordering in a later sort. Like falling in love all over again. Seeing in a new way what was always right in front of us and knowing that we only partially see the infinite possibilities as our marbles only tease us, presenting something desirable to the view but continually keeping it out of reach. So we try again and again to make sense out of that which is beyond our ken. David Chamberlain

That person who you describe as "too stuck on himself" to provide a photograph of the Paul Bunyans is I who in a separate Board message let you know that my new printer was down and only being on the computer for a cpl. weeks I hadn't even gained the skills yet to upload photographs. But you clearly ignored this fact and posted your derogatory thread. David Chamberlain

As I'd alluded to before and now I'll expand on it these marbles are righteous. Kinda like a hybrid Christensen/ Champion "Furnace" on acid! The kind of marbles where there's no problem about choices; you want them all! David Chamberlain

Cat's Eyes - First Of A Series
david Chamberlain replied to MrsMopar's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I thought I would add a statement to this thread. This CAT'S-EYE SERIES will run to 8 or 9 weeks with an add'l ten cat's-eye photographs with full descriptions provided each weekend. I decided some time ago that it would be nice to provide a shot in the arm to the lowly cat's-eye, bring it into the big time marble arena where it belongs. And it seemed the right time, well past the right time, to be the Marlow Peterson disciple I've touted myself as by advancing the importance of cat's-eyes from the 'weak sister' position they've had for so many years amongst old timey collectors. I think once you see the full possibilities that cat's-eyes present you will have an entirely new appreciation for them. I surely have and I at one time even had disdain for them! David Chamberlain -
Hello out there! I was informed this morning that all my posts on Marble Connection were deleted. Lou wondered why I did it. Not me. Heck, I wouldn't even know how to delete them. I have been receiving some unwanted emails and messages via the Boards from a women who appears to be a real whack case I'm wondering if she is involved. Her first email was rather elliptical and subsequent ones totally non-sensical. I have deleted them. I deleted four this morning. Anyway, if this continues on the Board I will cease Posting and just stick to my home base which is Marble Mental. Civility seems to reign over there. Respectfully, David Chamberlain

Have to say that I have always considered Akro Moonies and Christensen Moonies as all together different that Moss Agates. Much more etherial matrix in Moonies as opposed to Moss Agates. They also have that reddish glow or bluish glow when lit up which is much different than what you get with a Moss Agate. David C

I'm thinking this is the kind of marble that I was wont to describe as having a 'mucous matrix.' You know, that Moss Agate look that Akros had. David Chamberlain

Snot Agates In The 1930's ...
david Chamberlain replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Couldn't help gagging myself but then I've been known to describe the interior of a marble as having a 'Mucous Matrix.' David Chamberlain -
Does Anyone Know Newlondonoh ? Billy?
david Chamberlain replied to psia-antique's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Will it ever end? The 'Billy' pseudonym was totally transparent and and a lame attempt to cast aspersions. Totally typical of gutless posting. As for Jim King's book that's an entirely separate matter and something to look forward to. All marble book contributions gladly received. Heck, I even plugged a Block book in a post today! - David Chamberlain -
Whatever you do with these two beauties do not use that liquid glass stuff or whatever it's called to make them like new because as they are they tell their story which was and is the 'playing' side of our interest in marbles; as opposed to the 'collecting' side. David Chamberlain

Actually there are some people who think that Jackson made Jabos or something exactly like Jabos because some yahoo a few years ago while out at the old Jackson site sprinkled the area with Jabos thinking he was being funny. I provide the story in my Jackson photo article at Marble Mental. As soon as wvron read the article he called me and thanked me for exposing the jerk that did it as well as the jerks who dug holes and left them that way. David Chamberlain

Just Curious Question For Ya
david Chamberlain replied to FISHSLAYERMARRBLEGRIFF's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Re. the suggestion of 'patches.' Dave McCullough's name is indelibly etched on the 'swirl' marble. I seem to recall a fairly succinct remark attributed to him regarding this style of marble that went "Leave them to Marble King" or sumthin' to that extent. Tweekin' the mix is great but let's not forget that this is about West Virginia swirls. David Chamberlain -
Artsy Fartsy Bartsy Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to migbar's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hey, I'm just working my way through these past Posts one-by-one. Some resurrection is warranted when it involves beautific marbles. Let me catch-up! David Chamberlain -
In 1960 I was thumbing to California from New England! Furthest thing from my thoughts was marbles. My suspicions are that if this isn't a photograph turned on its side with some odd refraction going on then it's an illustration by someone with a fanciful imagination (read fantasy marbles). I cannot recall anything like those showing up early on and identified as 1960s except for clearys. David Chamberlain

Thought I'd toss in here that Heaton Agate made an oxblood marble. I have seen enough of them from dug Heatons to pretty much establish that this was purposeful. Check my article on Heaton Agate on Marble Mental Board. They look a lot like an Opaque Oxblood Swirl by Akro yet still have their own subtle character. There is practically only one Ravenswood marble in which it is possible to detect oxblood and I only found it by happenstance. Have to take some pics and show this sometime but my printer is still being worked on and it's brand new. Feh! David Chamberlain

Artsy Fartsy Bartsy Marbles
david Chamberlain replied to migbar's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Fri. 4/24 Gorgeous, rich colors and great combinations. They could be Christensens on acid! David Chamberlain. I'm new to this and I'm not quite sure how to Post a Reply on this portion of the Board. Hope this flies! DC -
Thurs. 4/23/'09 Noon Mtn. Daylgt. Time I can easily see where the perception of magnitudes of Jabo marbles would be the perceived conclusion. This is not the case. Please reference the statistics provided in "Jabo, a Classic (2008), Sturtz and Johnson. When the quantities are put along side the phenominal railroad car lots of the past they pale in comparison. And to equate the Jabo quantities with those of cat's-eyes is ludicrous. What has been happening at Jabo for the past year is a joyous happening in the world of marbles and a regular renaissance in marble production. I'm enjoying it for what it is.....great fun with marbles. Now in defense of cat's-eyes. Seems some people have not caught up to Castle & Petersons groundbreaking book from 1998 strictly on the subject of cat's-eyes. There are cat's-eyes that are a wonder to behold. Personally I consider myself a disciple of Marlow when it comes to cat's-eyes. Keep your eyes peeled for my 87 CAT'S-EYE PHOTO SERIES w/descriptions shortly to be posted in installments on Elizabeth Kempski's Marble Mental Board. David Chamberlain

**wow** April 2 & 3, 2009 Jabo Joker Ii Run
david Chamberlain replied to bermar's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Monday 4/13/2009 Gotta say that from the photographs on this thread that the 2009 Joker II's look like they have the potential of the 2008 Joker I's. Much similiar in swirling movement but richer in color. Obviously I'll have to have some! I'm going broke buying these marbles! David Chambverlain -
Aaaah.....what Did I Do Wrong?
david Chamberlain replied to lifeisgood81's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Mon. 4/13/2009 Hi there, I wish there were a photo of the box still posted so that I could get my 2 cents in. Is it one of them that's shown in the Ravenswood four page, 8 1/2"x11" orange-cover advertising flyer? And maybe a separate photo of the marbles in question. David Chamberlain -
I Got Marble Mail Today, The Best Ever......
david Chamberlain replied to jskirk's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Sat. 4-11-2009 7:45PM This is my second time typing this and attempting to get it posted. I am doing something wrong but I'm not sure what. This topic was way down in the pages and I only spotted it by jumping to the end. It's a great marble find story. My concern is about so many posts/thread that are outdated with no further relevance. Or ones that for some reason have had their photographes dropped. There's just no way on God's earth that a sane person is going to wade through all these pages. They truly need editing out occasionally. Maybe this is actually going on and I don't know about it but you can't help but get back to the insane fact of 106 pages with so much irrelevant material. Of course, there'd havfe to be acceptable guidelines for post eliminations due to dated material. Any thoughts about this? -
I Got Marble Mail Today, The Best Ever......
david Chamberlain replied to jskirk's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Sat. 4-11-'09 7PM Makes you wonder where this Guinea is today. The finds you live for! I also wonder just how many people get this far through the pages to take a gander at wonderful marble stories like this one. I must admit I have not been going from Pg. 1 thru Pg. 106. I skipped to the end and spotted it and was curious. I know it would take quite a bit of time but there are so many posts/threads that are dated and not really any help now or the photographs have been dropped for one reason or another and are similiarly useless.....these need to be dropped. Maybe it's happening regularly and I just don't know but I look at that daunting number of pages and don't see how I could ever tackle it in any reasonable manner. Any thoughts on this?
