  2. Sure. I'll PM my email in case you don't have it yet.
  3. 20 of The Best Places To Watch The Sunset
  4. Supposedly it was for cost savings. This was the period when Vitro and MK were trying to survive the invasion of Japanese cat's eye. p. 158, AMMM: "Lemon stated that it took four years to get the veneering process perfected but it helped reduce costs and kept the company competitive."

  6. The issue is that while some of the 1940's marbles visually match our personal concepts of having been veneered, they apparently weren't done with the process which Vitro and Marble King described as veneering. That process was developed in the mid- to late-1950's.
  7. My first guess would be that the marble found its way into the thimble by accident. Did some googling and found someone posting about an ornate sterling silver thimble which was found with a marble inside, dug from a front yard. The poster was surprised that such a pretty thimble would be thrown away. The hypothesis of the people who responded was that a child accidentally got the marble stuck inside and decided to hide the evidence of his misdeed. No other guess. Would be cool if someone knew a reason for that.
  8. Getting a head start since I know the New Year starts earlier for Winnie than it does for most of us here. Happy New Year! Kris Parke http://www.pinterest.com/pin/512988213779082039/ link to 2014 calendar
  9. Photo posted by Jeff Hale of Rainbows from different periods, where one was broken and gives a look at how deep the veneering went on Rainbows.
  10. I'd guess the inside and outside were made at the same time. Here's a pic Jeff Hale posted which showed the thickness of Marble King's veneer. (Also showed difference between the appearance of Rainbows from different periods.)
  11. Found it! From Tony Banas ... . Vintage anagram cards.
  12. Aren't yellows included in the Cohill book's photographs? p.s., Mon ... I got some mail.
  13. Before we switched hosts we had a bar at the top where new additions to the gallery could be seen (and people could be reminded that the gallery was there). I liked that. Lou, is that still an option? Fer instance, I didn't know MarbleDawg had posted so many of his creations to the gallery. If any of you guys haven't checked out his album, do. It's teh awesome. http://marbleconnection.com/gallery/image/5532-smeagle/
  14. Thanks Darla. Here is the link for making donations. http://marbleconnection.com/donate/ Hmmm ... the list of contributors is not current. I don't know if they used to be recorded automatically. Donations are always appreciated though. Thank you.
  15. It's card playing day. Someone recently posted a cool picture of cards and marbles together but now I can't even find it, much less get permission to use the picture. But when I think about cards, I sometimes think about marbles because of the Rosenthals. Didja know that the Morris Rosenthal who brought us so many boxes sets and who helped launch Berry Pink's career ... his brother was a playing card mogul?
  16. So, this thread is for any random bit of marble knowledge folks pick up. But I haven't learned anything marbular so far today. If you wanna know about White Christmas, I may have some new information for you on that subject.
