  1. Not all were made at Jabo. That's where it started but there were other investor runs. After Dave left Jabo, he continued making marbles. Dave's Appalachian Swirls or DAS is one name you'll find when you research these.
  2. The investors couldn't necessarily be sure how any given run would turn out, but they picked their own colors and hoped for the best. One run I have many marbles from turned out very dark because the plan was to only put in one portion of blue, but there was confusion and the blue was put in repeatedly. So some people got luckier than others. But Dave McCullough and the investors learned by 2007 what kind of glass to add to the mix to get oxblood. That's when the experiments were started which led to the contract runs which would continue for many years after that, basically up to the time of Dave's death one year ago.
  3. I don't know the current answer to that question. The marbles are considered "commons". Most if not all were made by Vitro Agate in the 1960s. But there are quite a few in the jar. Would the value add up to $55 in today's market? I wince a little at the cost, but it's possible I would pay it if I didn't already have quite a lot of that style of marble. Condition is vital. If the marbles are dinged up, I would for sure pass.
  4. Hi. Welcome. I think it would be a nice idea. I don't think hot glue would damage this particular version of ceramic marbles. And they're not particularly valuable so you don't need to worry about that. Capturing the sentiment and charm in shadow boxes would be lovely.
  5. Classic patch and ribbons for sure! My favorite from childhood.
  6. Another sign of your great imagination
  7. One larger introductory group could give us an idea of the general age, condition and rarity of the group. Then could move to small group shots and multiple angles for specific IDs.
  8. All hail the king of the mountain
  9. There's a picture I see online from time to time -- a moldy orange with green mold on top, white mold around the middle and orange still on the bottom. Every time I see it I think "Vitro".
  10. Totally see a rabbit knuckling down! I still have marble hallucinations too even after backing away from them for awhile.
