  1. I'm sorry Griff.... Your absolutely right!! I guess my point was to blow off Galen's attitude and get down to the real story. Galen's attitude and personality aren't ever gonna change. If you wanna duke it out with him, be my guest.... Let's just do it over at the Squabble Zone. Cuz honestly, that's not what people come here to see... I'd really like to know more about this thing and I don't honestly give a damn what Galen thinks!!! So, I hate to see a thread that could be informational turn into a slug fest, just because it was started in a negative way.... Maybe we need to blow this whole thing off and start again?? What's THAT mean?? Isn't that sort of a "Galen" kinda comment?? Beware, lest you become that which you most despise....
  2. That's cool!!!! That could also be done with that clear gel-like candle stuff... That way you could call it "functional" and that helps with the excuse to keep it!!! LOL
  3. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Folks!!!!! Let's quit with the mud-slinging and take a look at this thing... We all know Galen can be a curmudgeon on certain new changes... That's who he is. It's what he does. He speaks his mind in his way. We all know it and we're not likely to change him.... Or, anyone else for that matter... Don't we all want to speak our minds as we see fit? (DAMNED RIGHT, we DO!!) So, no point in blasting him for it... Just think to yourself, "OK, that's just Galen" and move on. The less attention paid to it, the less it effects us... Instead, let's ask, "OK, Galen, why is it bad for the hobby?" Let's get some perspective on it.... Maybe he has a point? Maybe we should get a link to it and try to embrace it?? Anyone got a link to the info, so we can all become enlightened?? If it's just the Texas Club's hall of fame, it IS their business. That doesn't mean we can't support it and offer congratulations to those honored... Who knows?? Maybe they'd even be open to allowing us to toss them some suggestions... THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!!! Thanks, Al!!
  4. That's how I saw it... Though, not sure about the 100% thing.... It is hysterical!! One picture can speak a lot of words!!! LOL There's a LOT to those 2 posts!! I'm headed out to DC tomorrow to bring my son home from school. I may not get back here til Sunday. So, I'll have some time to think about it, too... I'm betting there's a few people who will read this and freak out... If so, please, just click out and move to another thread. Not everyone is cut out for every conversation... That doesn't mean that those who wish to have the discussion have to be silenced or ridiculed. Let's take it slow. Put some thought into it and see where it goes...
  5. To my knowledge, there is only one (real) marble of this design... It belonged to the late Bill Sweet for many years and is pictured in Marble Mania.... As of last October, it was still in a saftey deposit box, belonging to the Sweet family, with no plans to move it... It has been copied a few times... Nadine MacDonald signed and dated a few, with a tip of the hat to Bill's.... I copied it on a ceramic ornament, with a tip of the hat to Nadine!!! (I can't begin to tell you what a bitch it is, trying to get those freakin' lines straight!! )
  6. Oh mannnnn, I'm SO sorry, Ron!!! That poor little kid!!! I so hope she can fully heal and learn to deal with the fear in a positive way. I work with a lot of pit bulls... I know their strength and ability. It can be incredibly frightening... So much of their breeding has gotten into the wrong hands and been twisted into a horrible danger for humans, other animals and the pits themselves.... It's just tragic. Maybe, if we could get our protesters and lawmakers to focus on the dangers of these sorts of problems... If they would take them seriously and actually slam these people with punishments tough enough that could stop it... With the same vengence as preventing 2 Gay people from marrying?? The fact that Michael Vick can still play football and earn millions of dollars a year makes me wanna be sick.....
  7. Scott comes and goes from time to time... Is this the type of marble your referring to?? I'm not sure who to credit this photo to... It could be Scott, Tom Reed, or myself (I took some pictures of Bev Brule's Birdcage) It's in a file and I didn't note whose it is... If this is what you mean, I'm convinced that it was Chinese made. During a period of time around the 1930's when a group of Englishmen tried to create a paperweight production in China. They reproduced alot of European and American designs. It seems a few marbles came out of this... This is far more documented in the paperweight world, than the marble world... Tom Reed has a note with his that I feel is a very solid provenance to the time and place.
  8. Wow, nice group!!! It's great to see a marble called a Joseph's Coat, that really IS a Joseph's Coat.... And, a nice one, too!!!
  9. Oh man... I'm late gettin' into this!!! I love these things!! Way back, it was so cool to find them... No one seemed to notice or care about them, but it was clear that they were "different." I only have pictures of a couple....
  10. Wow Bubba, what is that?? It's pretty cool!!! I probably have a couple that could compete, but this is certainly unusual.... At one point, I had a bunch of sulphides, including a number two with a blue figure (Now on exibit at the Toy & Miniature Museum of Kansas City) I decided I really didn't like sulphides and sold them all... All but this one...
  11. I'm glad your back, David... I missed you!!! Say "Hi" to the Doc for me!!!
  12. Awesome Bubba!!! Your right, those were the last 2 I needed, too... I got the Betty, but never the Skeezix....
  13. Naaaaa, this one will never get that far here... He's just gonna clean it up, get it runnin' and flip it... He's looking for a nice chevy, with parts that are easier to find... I've been doin' that for the past 20 years, in his '71 Corvette. 'Never hit, all original... He's had it since '73. She's my only real competition!!! And, I can deal with that!!! LOL
  14. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... It IS a project car.... Wally doesn't know marbles and I don't really know cars (much....) He says it's in great condition for what he wants to do.... Honestly.... I'm thinkin' if he paid more than a few Japanese catseyes for it, he got ripped!!! ROFLMAO!!
  15. Wow!!! I had to be away for a while.... We've just got so much going on right now.... For you car folks.... I'm cleaning out my side of the garage... Years of totes and boxes from co-op and ebay work stacked all over... To make room for the '65 Buick Skylark convertible project car my husband just bought... It's raining a LOT up here and this thing hasn't seen rain for 22 years!! He's been SERIOUSLY on my case to make a LOT of stuff simply "disappear." If I spend more than a couple of minutes on the computer, I get "Das Boot!!" to the garage!! Thank you to those who have been turning this thread into what it was intended to be... I am seeing some frustration from some who think their words are falling on deaf ears (Dani, Scott??) I'd REALLY like to see what you have to say listened to.... Not just swept under the rug and ignored... Is it possible to address these comments without "silencing" these people?? OTOH, it would help if the comments were made without that little edge of sarcasm.... (Scott? ) Pen!! Thanks so much for saying what you NEED to learn... Sometimes it takes a novice (is that OK? LOL) to teach the pros what they've forgotten!!! OK... gotta run... Someone's coming!!!
  16. Ahhhh, this just isn't heading where I wanted it to head!!! LOL But Alan, it was worth it for the smile!! Nice eggs!!!
  17. Paul was 11 days early for Concord & Lexington (I'm a Concord native!!) But, you guys hit my daughter's birthday on the head!!!
  18. I only have a few of the new runs of Jabos and the ones I do have are not "scary" as compared to vintage marbles... Since I kinda need a marble to start this off, I'll post the first Jabo I ever saw that might confuse a collector... It's a very good corkscrew, in coveted blue & green colors. Those who really know their Akro probably wouldn't flinch... But, some others might. There was a time when we could show a newbie a corkscrew and say, "If the pattern does this, odds are, it's Akro." The days of being THAT sure of anything are probably over... So, let's study up and learn what's out there.... Post 'em if ya got 'em!!! Let's keep it a learning thing, please...
  19. I know we have a few folks here from WV... Though, the mining accident was far to the south of "Glass Country," our thoughts and prayers are with you and your extended friends and families... I was so hoping for better results when I turned on my computer this morning.... God Bless..........
  20. SOOOOOO COOOOOOL!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
  21. Ever since I've gotten involved in collecting contemporary marbles, I've also taken an interest in the other things these artists produce... The question of "Who is making the new gear shift knobs?" and Penelope's posting of the "Marbles from a 150 year old house" auction, motivated me to post this... (Though, I don't know if the knobs are imported...) It's a tough gig making a living as a glass artist... And now, in the past few years that artist-made beads, pendants.... and marbles have become very popular and expensive, the inevitable has happened... There's a HUGE wave of import beads, pendants and marbles (amongst all sorts of other items) flowing into our country from the "Orient." 'Sold as "Handmade" (Yeah, they are... By the millions!!) and designed to look very creative and "Artsy..." They are making a total MOCKERY of the glass artists that have worked so hard to create the designs that have made the style popular. And, they undermine the artists ability to continue... On the one hand... Why pay a lot of money for something you can get as easily for a couple of bucks?? I guess it's all about quality, creativity and supporting artists whose ideas are being ripped off, mutilated and marketed as "cheap." Sooooo, if you have an interest in art glass items and wish to support independent glass artists, always ask, or check where an item is made before buying it... This last Christmas season, I saw several venders in malls and at craft shows selling these styles of pendants..... It became a "sport" to walk up and ask them "Where are these made??" Immediately, you can see the "Mental Gears" slip into overdrive!!! I received many interesting answers... But, not ONE simple, honest answer, "China." The catch-22.... At a gathering of high school friends, celebrating a birthday, one of my friends gave another one of these pendants... As I almost chewed my lower lip off keeping quiet, it occurred to me.... She IS an artist (graphic) herself and certainly cannot afford to buy expensive glass!!! Though, honestly..... I think there are artists out there offering really nice work for very reasonable amounts of money... This sort of work is their "Bread & Butter" product, that allows them to do what they do. So, before dropping $5.00 on a cheap import, check out what's available from an independent artist!!! OK.... Excuse me while I step off this soap box and get some work done!!! ROFL
  22. Anybody know who's makin' the new ones?? Are they "Imported??" (Urrrrgggghhhhh.....)
  23. I'm so sorry Chuck.... I love to "study" faces in a kind of "artsy" way and my first impression was "What a beautiful man..." I wish I'd had a chance to know him....
