Wow.... I thought uncmike was OK.... I've only had one, possibly two, transactions with him, though... The marble I bought did have a big honkin' chip... But, it was pretty well documented. I think there may have been a little buffing added in. I didn't think it was bad enough to call it a foul.... Anybody else have troubles?? Pssssst, Gene.... Glinda, the witch of the North, is a good witch... LOL

Thanks so much Ric!!! The pictures are wonderful!!! For the longest time, I couldn't understand the big deal about Chihuly... Yes, I liked the colors and designs... But, it wasn't until I saw his work displayed as he sees it in nature... Then, it all made sense!!!

AWESOME!!! I'm convinced... Any beginner who has trouble identifying these from vintage needs the brail marble book... -
Have a great one!!!!

DAMN!!! Yeah David... That and the drool on the keyboard!! LOL

I don't know how many times I have to try and make this happen... But, can some of these people who have these marbles post comparison pictures, so that we CAN tell the difference??? It's tough to know whatcha ain't seen!!

Griff... I honestly never expected that a guy as upfront about his thoughts, as you are, could be so easily offended!!! My God, Man... Get a grip!! I'm terribly sorry if your offended by Galen... I hate it when ANYONE here is offended!! But, ya know.... At some point in time, here... Everyone either offends, or IS offended... Most people can quietly stand back and not make a sound, or get involved... I don't have that luxury.... If I stand behind everyone who is offended, I am offending someone else, who will bitch at me for that... So, I guess your right... I end up with no friends... OH, wait a minute... I DO have friends. And, I know who they are. Their the ones who respect my right to disagree with them, or to try and make a point and not get all pissy about being "Offended" when there's a bigger picture to look at. Crank up your Santana!! (GOOD Choice!!) Crack open a can, roast some marshmellows, get a hammer & saw, build a bridge and GET OVER IT!!!

OK.... I finally got around to taking pics of the marbles I thought might be Buttermilks... What have I got here??? I love how the purple-ish color is so distinctly separate in the bottom one... 'Sorry about the blurry on this... My camera focused on the fabric behind... This one has the clear space... Like a helmet.

Cuz, I don't wanna have to bitch slap ya!!! LOL

I keep waiting for a run of Jabos that I REALLY love!!! Griff, these are really close!! The colors are lighter and brighter. It seems like Jabos are always leaning towards dark-ish, autumn-ish colors... I'm glad to see some real bright PRIMARY colors in there!!! Am I the only collector in the world who thinks oxblood is kinda ugly??

I'm gonna get crap again, for defending Galen.... So, just SLAP me now.... Actually, I am NOT defending Galen.... I'm simply trying to bring two opposite views together, in an attempt to make them constructive, rather than DISTRUCTIVE!!! Galen... Why make such a nasty insinuation BEFORE asking a constructive question??? Steve & Griff.... Why so serious??? (Pardon the smudged lipstick...) You let Galen "Get You" every....single....time.... Griff, THANK YOU!!! Despite the unnecessary "Potty Talk"... You answered what should have been Galen's informative question.... This is a solid step forward!!!! If we could simply just STOP the pissing, crapping and moaning... Maybe we could LEARN why these marbles are NOT bad for our hobby... These marbles are beautiful and somewhat accessible.... That can only increase interest in our hobby... As long as we can capture and LEARN the reasons why they are NOT so similar to the old, we can prevent what Galen is afraid of... That's gonna take co-operation, NOT mutual opposition!! One of the reasons I've lost some interest in my collection of handmades, is the cost and unavailability of examples that can improve my collection... Having bought some great marbles before the prices skyrocketed, I just CANNOT afford the level of marbles I need to improve... It used to be, I could find sleepers.... Now, those are few and far between... I really believe the increase in contemporary marbles has kept my interest alive... I've found a way to move forward, while still holding on to the past.... Sure... There are some contemporary marbles that are passing for old... If they are THAT good, well?? They've earned their place. Are there some Jabos that will pass as old??? Maybe..... Are there so many that they will effect the value of old??? Rather than fight about it.... Let's LEARN??? Griff... Your information is invaluable!!! Thank you again!!! If a few get by... History shows, it does NOT hurt us that bad... Do CZ's hurt the diamond market?? OR, do they keep the diamond market alive, by allowing diamonds to stay current in fashion?? I like to think that these Jabos will enable our hobby to stay current and alive, by offering new and beautiful marbles to new and old collectors, at affordable prices... The very CORE of Galen's concern is absolutely constructive!!! NO, he doesn't need to be rude about it.... But... before he WAS rude about it, he's been slammed for his thoughts... The opal market was very strong... Until, man-made BEAUTIFUL opals flooded the field.. These opals are better than the originals, hard to cipher from original and prolific... YES, they have hurt the opal market... This is what Galen warns against... It is REAL and it makes sense.... So... Let's focus on admiring these beauties!! AND, learning why they are not dangerous to the old...

AWESOME picture!!!!! That's gotta be a gallery piece!! I've gotta take some pictures... I usually stroll through these threads, but because I'm not really into these things, I don't really absorb a lot... Now, there seems to be a guy selling stuff like this, for some good prices, at a nearby co-op... I've picked up a lot of marbles that look "good" to me... But, I'm unsure of what they are and value... I've gotta take some pictures and post 'em.... 'See if my "absorption" has been worthwhile!!

Absolutely!!! I attended a memorial service for a WWII vet, yesterday... I don't know what area of the service he originally served in... But, as an avid skier, he became an associate member of the (Original) Tenth Mountain Division Association... If he'd had a choice, he'd have served with the Tenth... And, he'd have been damned good at it!! He became one of my Dad's best friends and meant a lot to all of us.... I was moved by the flower stand... Made from his last pair of skis... By chance, my first trip back to Colorado in 20 years, was Ed's last (2008)... I can attest to the fact that, even at 89 years old, he burned the wax on these skis!!! LOL

Hey Bo... I was in high school at the end of Viet Nam... Yes, I was a war protester... No, I never spit on anyone, or called them baby killers... But, I DO DEEPLY regret the attitude I held for the members of the military then. In my head... In my youth... In public... It was the attitude of the side I joined... BUT.... I lived right at a traffic light intersection on the highway that was the direct route from Hanscom AFB.... where wounded soldiers flew in.... and Fort Devens, where the Army hospital was located... I can't think of too many sounds I've ever heard in my life that have been so distressing, confusing and.... just HORRIBLE, as the loud BLARING BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH sound of the medical bus horns as they ran through the light... Usually late at night... (They didn't have sirens...) I wish I had been wise enough then, to send love and luck to every face I ever saw on a regular transport bus (We saw many of them, too) No matter what happened... No matter how things were twisted... Bo, you did what you believed was right at the time... AND, you were willing to give your life for what you (and so many others) believed was a way to protect us all THANK YOU!!! My sister was old enough to have a military pen pal... I don't think she ever met him... I don't know if they have stayed in touch... But, the letters she got from him were pretty chilling... This thread is a good thread... It means a lot to many... Yes... I can TOTALLY understand your comment... But, Please.... In respect to all.... Would it be possible for you to either begin a new thread, or PM Gene privately about this?? It just doesn't belong here.... Today.... Thanks -
Good news!!! Keep that Marble Karma flowing in that direction!!! Hang in, Steve.... I'd be chewin' my fingernails down to the second finger joint by now!!!

Funny Story..... In a place that's hard to make a story funny!! A few weeks ago, we went to Washington DC to bring my son home from college(GWU).... My brother, sister, sister-in-law and Dad flew down to join us, so that we could take Dad to the WWII Memorial... He was in the original 10th Mountain Division and had never seen the memorial.... At 86 years old, with bad hip, I'm proud to say he was able to meander along... with rest stops here & there... From the WWII Memorial, to the Vietnam Memorial and on to the Korean War Memorial... We tried to make it easier by using a car, bus, wheelchair... Hell, ANYTHING!! But, he was fine... As long as we could take it slow.... While we were there, we became aware of an interesting group... The Honor Flight Network.... At the Vietnam Memorial, I was standing behind a HFN volunteer... He was wearing a t-shirt that said, "If you can read this shirt, thank a teacher... If you can read it in English, thank a Vet." I tapped him on the shoulder... He turned around and I said, "Thank You!!" He said, "Huh??" Ya know... If your gonna wear a t-shirt like that, you should probably know what it says!!! LOL Anyway... The guy behind us was also a volunteer pushing a WWII vet in a wheelchair... He said he was a teacher.... So, I was able to thank them both... The original guy caught on and we all laughed... It was really a great day... If you have an elderly person in your family that should see something.... ANYTHING, before it's too late.... Just do it.... It's SO worth it!!! That weekend was so simple... And, it meant so much to my Dad!! If you live near a city that has an airport and you have any desire to assist Vets in seeing the beautiful monuments our capital has built in their honor... Please consider volunteering for the Honor Flight Network.... 'Have a great weekend!!! -
OK Steve.... I'm pullin' all my good Karma away from the squabbles here and redirecting to someone who really needs it!!! LOL Mannnn, I hope all is going to be OK for your son..... Keep us posted... He's gotta be a pretty special guy to go all the way to Korea to teach school... It's so frustrating to think that we have people here (in the US) squawking about Obama not being born in the US and he's a Muslim and the Muslim's hate us..... Blah, Blah, blah.... ('Sorry... I just keep getting these annoying emails....) But..... No one seems to be paying attention to Korea and China.... Hello??? Has anyone looked at the economy of China vs. The rest of the world, lately?? While we focus on barefoot terrorists, in caves... China will OWN us....

'Been there, Done that, David!!! Questionable Ebay Sellers We keep it in the squabble Zone, cuz it's not really what we want to be about... (she says with a questionable tone??) It probably should be mentioned more often though.... Let me see if I can find you a link.... HOWEVER!!! I must warn you that... We have had ebay sellers come here to bitch at us before... It's not always fun. It may end up over at SZ (Squabble Zone...)

This has been reduced to "scrapping..." Winnie.... PLEASE forgive and lets start this over?? Could you do that?? (we need a hug emoticon!!)

This thread hyjacking has been a major issue (and a tool, for some..) I apologize to those who have fallen victim before... Yesterday, we came up with a way to circumvent it... I don't think it will be a complete and absolute answer. But, it may help some... Steph, I think we need to start using that method when we can... Copy and pasting the post into a new thread and blocking the original... The cool thing about blocking is... It enables us to backtrack if necessary... It's not always possible to catch a post before it becomes woven into the fabric of the thread... Try to remember... Steph & I don't LIVE here... And Lou, isn't in as frequently. THIS IS NOT OUR FULL TIME JOB!!!! Galen's complaining about Jabos in a thread that compares them, is a questionable hyjack... Meaning... It's not always obvious where the post is gonna lead... But, we may be able to correct some of this stuff....
-
HAH!!!! VERY interesting thought!!! I didn't catch that!!! Steph PM'd this to me yesterday and I thought the "California Privy" sounded oddly familiar... Eh, Tu??? But Damn.... The colors are spot on... There's a lot of things to consider... Aside from that... If it's a fake, it's definitely the best I've seen, yet.

Hey now... C'mon... Let's not be too hasty here.... She says she found them in her basement... The basement of a house 150 years old, could be dirt, yes?? We have NO IDEA how long she's been digging in that basement!! Check your globes people!!
