Contemporary marble collector John Ward, has asked me to sell approx. 120 marbles to benefit Alan Basinet!! WAY TO GO, JOHN!!!!! The first lot of 10 is scheduled on ebay, starting tonight (2/5) at 10:00 pm EST (Just about the time the NE Patriots beat the Giants in the Super Bowl!!!) .............Damn!!!! 'Knew I shouldn'ta said that!!! :-( Please check 'em out at Marble_Alley I have my format drawn out, so hopefully, there will be more VERY soon... I would be happy to hold lots for combined shipping. Just let me know!! Please place these auctions on your "Watched List" so that we can get "Most Watched" status and attract a LOT of attention!! Pass the word around!! These are listed in the Studio Art Glass category for a savings of approx. $1.10 per auction!! I can list them in "Marbles," if I host my own pictures (Which I do anyway...) But, buyers are becoming less accustomed to scrolling down for that.... Tell me what you think? Please help me correct any mistakes!! Thanks!!!!

WOW!! Those are both really cool!! Names for the old handmades used to be really easy!! They were simply called what they showed... With all the books written by "authorities," who have defined every detail into minute maddness, I don't know if what these would be called is the same as what I would call them... But, I'll offer up how an "old timer" would describe them and see if it holds up!! LOL The first one, I would call a "double latticinio ribbon core." Meaning, it's a ribbon core, with 2 ribbons, made from latticinio. The second, I would call a blue transparent solid core (with white stripes or latticinio) It seems to me, the transparent solid cores may be called "jelly cores?" I'm not sure if that's correct... A friend of mine, in Maine, calls the ones with more structured opague stripes mixed with transparent "Tiffany Windows." I'm not sure if this one would qualify, as it has so little opague... Also, I think it's his own name for them... Another thing about these marbles.... I think these may be what's referred to as "English Colors...??" They are bright enough to fit in with that group, but I'm not sure if they have different enough colors to fully qualify as "English." If there are more technical names, I'm not up on them... Lloyd Huffer or Bob Block would probably be the guys to know. Hope this helps a little!! Most importantly... You have a couple of really COOL marbles!! Names aren't nearly as important as how much you love them!!

Northeast Marble Show - New Date!! Oct. 1&2
Scoop replied to Scoop's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Bert has announced there WILL be NE show next year!! It will be at the same location, Marriot Courtyard, Marlborough, MA... We will be going back to the Columbus Day Weekend date... That will be Saturday October 6, for the auction and Sunday October 7 for the show. As always, there will be room trading throughout the weekend, beginning during the day, as people arrive and set up, on Friday, October 5th With a whole year to work with, I've been contacting some people to see if we can get a group to help Bert out and breath some new life into the show... It's WAY too much work for Bert to be doing alone. He'd like to think it would continue when he is unable to run it... My organizational skills are so bad.... I cannot take this whole thing on!! But, I can be a great workhorse for someone, or a group, who wants to be the "Boss." A friend of mine helps Bert out with his computer work. She's not a "marble person," but she loves Bert!! Our first plan is to build a website for the show... There was a time, when the auction was "Standing Room Only!!" Bev Brule worked so hard at recruiting consignments for the auction... Since we lost Bev, the consignments have dropped down to only a very few... One of the things we'd like to do with the website, is run a preview of the auction in advance... We'll have to discuss the details of this with Bert, to see if it would be possible to accept outside bids? It would also be AWESOME if there was a way to have some live glasswork being done... I'm not sure how we could ever pull that off. I'm sure it would have to be outside of the hotel, if not, completely off grounds... We are looking for ideas and help!! If anyone has any input of any kind, we'd love to hear it!! Thanks!!! -

I Would Pay Someone $300 Cash Money +
Scoop replied to honeybern's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I agree Edna.... I stuck it out as long as I could to try and change things.... There was a day when these boards were so much fun!!! That's why Lou & I stood up to keep it alive when Alan had taken all he could take... I so miss the friends I've made around the country by being on the boards... But, I just don't have time to be a part of the ugliness they have become. -
Urrrggggg...... VM..... '92 was a long time ago!!! I'll sleep on it and see if anything comes to the surface!! LOL

I've gotten so used to Bo recovering, this reality is hard to accept. Last year was a brutal year for him and earlier this month, like Al said... He sounded so good... Last week, not so good. Finally... After enduring so much... He is finally pain free. I'm gonna miss him so much.... "The Dirty Dawgs" have lost the leader of the pack.

Merry Christmas and A Wonderful New Year to All!!! Love Ya!!

I agree with Jeroen.... I haven't had much personal contact with marbles like these. But, I've seen pictures and heard about them... I have a Leighton type with that yellow in it... I'd like to hear what Lloyd thinks....

Picked Up A Jar Of Mibs, How'd I Do?

Hey Cathy!!!! Great to see you posting... I'm gonna work on getting out your way for the show next spring. If it works, it'll be great to see you!!! I'll always think of Larry & Marlow as the guys who put machine made marbles on the map. I believe they created so many more terms than they'll ever be credited for... Simply because "taking credit" wasn't their objective... Just getting the info out there, enjoying the hobby and getting the marbles appreciated was all that mattered. They were never given credit by the more popular, known "Experts" who sucked the information out of them, took it and ran, leaving them in the dust.... I would cherish that signed book, too!!! Those words are so much more true than anyone could ever believe.... I know, cuz I was there, in that time-frame, too.... 'Love Ya, Honey!!! 'Hugs to (your) Larry!!!
-
Hey Paul!!! Good to see you back!! You've been missed!!!
-
I was thinking Thom on the second, too... I love his work!!! I wish he'd sign them!! That one is GREAT!!! He's very good about keeping them distant enough from the old ones to avoid confusion. But, as other artists come along, his work ends up being questioned like this. It's too good for that!! His name, signature and marbles should be known!! If you run into a similar marble with the sig. "N.M." it would be a Nadine MacDonald (she also often, added a date) The first could also be Thom's... But, I tend to lean towards the polymer clay (FIMO!! LOL) Galen, I think there are some PC artists that add the clay over a cleary to give it weight.

I'll be there!!

Holy Mollies!!! They were a bargain... But, at about a hundred bucks a piece, not a bargain to pine over... I was really worried someone got 'em for a couple hundred bucks... NICE group, nice colors and patterns... Good buy!!!
