  1. That's a good question Steph, I've carved a good bit of soap stone from Montana and alabaster from Colorado. Have seen a lot of onyx in New Mexico. Some of the brown looks to be onyx and some of them lean toward agate. The white, black and yellow looks more like marble or alabaster but I've never seen black alabaster. The green I don't know. Lol, more to ponder!
  2. While digging in the barn for red marbles this morning I ran across this box I had not seen in years and had forgotten I even had. There all hand faceted. Just thought I would share!
  3. Ok, the roosters showed up yesterday. Mine are slightly more orange than them and the white is whiter on mine. The roosters have an orange peal texture mine are much smoother under magnification. Everyone of mine have at least one cut line but most have two, none of the roosters have any sign of a cut line. So I guess they could be very early roosters. The search goes on! Lol
  4. That was a very good explanation Ann. Thank you. Hope you all don't get tired of my questions.
  5. Anybody have any Akro cardinal reds for comparison to ruby slippers, cherry bombs and roosters?
  6. Galen, I can see the color being slightly different from batch to batch but why would the construction change? I'm not being a smart %÷€%, just don't understand.
  7. In hand now, Steph was right! Vacor it is.
  8. Well I'm still not convinced so I ordered some vacore roosters for comparison. The kids will get them when I'm done.
  9. Steph, some older marbles I see have only one cut line and some have two, one on each pole. The more I learn I find myself pulling the marbles I know but often find myself going thru jars or bags of marbles for the hundredth time looking for something I know I have seen and know I have one somewhere. That's after seeing one that someone has posted here. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Lol
  10. I'm sure this question has been addressed but I'll ask anyway. I'm curious how most of you sort marbles. First black light them? Cull all the obvious new cat eyes and seriously damaged ones? Put everything with a cut line in one pile? Two cut lines in another? Ok, I'm sure a book could be written on this and someone should. Thanks Bud
  11. Or the break peddle I did that once.
  12. JerryG, Nice comparison pictures. Thank you!
  13. Thank you all for your input and opinions. Greatly appreciated! Bud
  14. Another picture. I will call them thin Ann. And there looks to be cut lines on a couple of them.
  15. Could be peltier cherry bomb I'm looking for. Not sure what the proper name is. So I could use some clarification there also.
  16. Could these be ruby slippers? If not could someone please post a pic or two of some. Thanks Bud
  17. On my way home tomorrow, will post better pictures then.
  18. It's all in fun Chuck Jeeperman, I enjoyed your sunsets! They still shouldn't have named my cousin Dorcus.
  19. There really is something wrong with a green sunset, its almost as bad as a red zebra. All the cool names like flaming dragon and superman then somebody throws in something like (Bifrucated) what the heck is that all about? I could easily be a name hater too. Bud
  20. "The Name Hater" That's funny Galen. Maybe we should start a stupid marble name game.
  21. Some of the pink marbles in this thread is very nice. A little more just for grins.
  22. Oh I like it! a swimming moon snake. I'll have to go dump all the jars out again.
  23. I usually say. "Ya, I lost mine a long time ago, been buying them back ever since." It seems to leave them laughing and more open to bickering over prices.
