  1. Looking like an unseasonably warm weekend coming up, talking 70's which is unreal for Minnesota mid-to-late October. Only upper 30's, maybe 40 for a high today. 50's forecasted for midweek....
  2. Just watched some news and the next couple days has us in the 40's for daytime highs and 20's at night. Then Wednesday through Friday pushing towards and into 70's for daytime highs! Crazy fall indeed!
  3. Definitely been a blast with so much more to be discovered!
  4. We found the block alongside one of the smallet collapsed buildings. It would be the little building in the first group of photos that I posted on this thread, the last 3 pictures of a structure. You can see the soil line on the side of it, showing how deep it had sunken into the ground. Every cavity in the block was full soil and weeds. What's interesting is that, as we have examined each structure, I am certain that they were constructed over a period of time and not at the same time. But judging from the stages of decay at each site, and what has been found, everything definitely dates pre-1950 IMO. The structural remains that we discovered yesterday, that you speak of Chad, I think it might have been storage building or possibly a barn. I'll get better pictures next time, but it's old enough too where whatever wood was used in the walls and roof is long gone and beneath the soil. The one door that somehow remains upright could be latched from the outside.
  5. Our targets today...what used to be a small shed behind the house, plus returned to the only building still standing too dig where we found more tools and the 75mm....the spoils from today...a nice assortment. Really love the variety that were finding! The block was the only one like that we've seen. Thinking someone dumped it back there. She's going to make a planter out of it. A good day!
  6. Another few hours of digging this afternoon...also discovered the remains of another building! We did a quick walkthrough too see what we could see. Definitely a future dig!
  7. One more mention regarding yummy treats...she also on occasion made some pretty good homemade salt-rising bread too! Loved it 👍
  8. A Bell System Lineman's first aid kit...now I have too narrow down the time frame 👍
  9. No wonder I couldn't find a match when I briefly searched. Not a coffee jar...still cool like you said Art! Wish the lid was in better shape. I looked up those old IGA logos...pretty nice history! One things for sure, it's not coming off the jar. No way without causing further damage. Together forever!
  10. Oh yes, and I'll add one more thing. I want to thank you for bringing back such a wonderful memory from my childhood. My older sister Nila used to make the best homemade fudge when I was younger (and those little "wedding cakes" too, remember those?)...I literally just went back in time while reading your post. Priceless memories. Thanks again for triggering those memories 😊
  11. Very, VERY nicely said, Ann. Once in a great while I poke my head in there, but since joining MarbleConnection in early 2021, I have yet too spend the hours there that you speak of. One day...😊
  12. And too top it off, my furnace has been running off and on since probably midnight and it just now kicked in....
  13. I hear you...I was actually born in Indianapolis and didn't move south to Florida until I was 10 maybe? Lived there in Jacksonville until 1993. Going from north to south was quite the adjustment too, but as a kid it isn't as "noticable".... When I went back north, moving to southern Minnesota in early 93', that was a big change. Especially physically. My hands and feet actually peeled like a snakeskin! Climate is a crazy thing! I remember in Florida 40's and 50's were freezing! Nowadays too me it's a heatwave, I'll wear shorts in that! My neighbors the Folstads, definitely have Norwegian blood. Neil, I've seen that man in Jean shorts in December! Not me, I don't push it 😁 It's below freezing this morning here. Got up at 7:15 AM CST and looked outside at a car covered with thick frost. Making my coffee and looking out the back window, I noticed sparrows gathered around the dog's water bowl. Try as they might, they can't quite break through the layer of ice on the water's surface!
  14. Oh yeah, definitely getting played...ears are doing most of the work while the eyes "make sure" occasionally 🤣🤣
  15. 80's? Wow, it's cooking in October! In the upper 40's and lower 50's in my area since earlier this week and heading into next week. Actually having scattered snow flurries here and there. A bout of freezing rain yesterday for about a half hour. Big difference between here and there!
  16. Research after all lol....but with the mailbox. It's quite obvious that it's got some age, easily mid 1950's or before. Here's what I learned in brief. 1915-1929 The No. 1 Mailbox (18.5 long, 6 wide, 7.5 high The No. 2 mailbox (23.5 long, 11 wide, 14 high) 1929-1936 The No. 1 size was discontinued due too a higher volume of package deliveries. 1936-1953 The No. 1 size was brought back, but tweaked a bit, but not totally sure when during this time frame the size was altered. So, I believe it falls before 1953, with a strong possibility that it existed before they went with strictly the No. 2 size. My gut is telling me early 1900's....
  17. Mole trap is a possibility I suppose, smaller critters for sure. Yep, the first aid kit is cool. Don't know when I'll research it, maybe tonight sometime. And the mailbox is cool. Found it sticking out of the ground behind the house. I'll have to see if I can figure out when they stopped putting "Approved by the Postmaster General" on em...I really like the little flip-open slot for mail in the front 👍
  18. Thinking maybe newer MK?
  19. A few more items, including a few from her solo trip yesterday. No luck with any coins from the player piano, if in fact it was one of the coin operated models. She thinks she might have spotted a possible way down into the front part of the basement. I'll check it out on the next trip, possibly tomorrow. Anyway, pics....
  20. Happy Akro Friday (Thanks Gladys for getting my mind wrapped up in 🐍) 😁
  21. Found as you see it, so I am assuming the top and jar go together...really happy about it!
