Great stuff Fire--I did bid on Tiffany glass--once-đ. Maybe twiceâ. I am not trying to distract from your post just add to it. There was a lamp dude quite close to us that actually let us touch his ware. Green Lake Wisconsinâwhat a great seller and collector he was. He almost acted like they were âcommonâ. I will compare him to @wvronsâwith marbles. Selflessâa great collector that is willing to pass information on to the masses. I only wish that there were more of his caliper. He knew that we were not buyers (you can tell) from the start but still gave all of our questions a great answer with a very nice bit of information and insight. I love looking back at the older collectors and sellersâbefore the internet--- I have wanted one of these for years-A Houze glass cullet marble--they are pretty pricey but they challenge any Akro Agate for "The Glow" ----my wife and I also collected Houze Glass in the past yearsânever really knowing what it wasâwe just liked itâit glowedâeven under low light in an Antique store. This one is 1-1/8ââwith a flawââyou can only see one side of any marbleâ MarbleâOn!!

My wife and I collected âAkro-Wareâ before we even knew what it was. We went to Auctions, Antique stores, Rummage sales, Second hand shopsâon and on. âAkro-Wareâ pretty much replaced anything that we had collected before. It had to be cheapâwe were raising three kids and the cash was tight. It was always cheap entertainment for us all. I remember my wife pulling at my sleeve many times during an Auctionâslow downâtoo much!!! Then one day at an antique mall I found the âHardyâsâ first bookâwhat? They made marbles too? I have been off and running ever since, the wife stuck with the Akro WareâI went after the little guysâthey take up way less space. Now I am a Great-Grandpa x2âI still have the âFireâ. I still break into a sweat if I find an Akro Marbleâany Akro MarbleâI just luv em. HoneyâI found an Akro!!! MarbleâOn!!

You caught my drift Steph--buyers beware- This is a very good repo and there are many more out there--excellant place holder though. Read before you bid--I give this seller credit for the description. The pouches are harder to find than the boxes are. Marble--On!! -
At this point in my life, I just hate having anything in my pockets. I used to carry this one for some time--it was like a little "Blankie"--. Marble--On!!

Popeye boxes info requested--Thanks

Thanks Steph--great stuff. If you pay any attention to pouches like I do you would appreciate the fact that a few that you show in your images are really--really rare. The box that shows Wimpy and Swee' Peaâis rare as heck. These may have held some oxbloods or others. I have a vision of sparklers included in a Popeye boxâmaybe just a dreamâa nice one! Thanks and--- MarbleâOn!! -

I jumped on these thinking that the patch was a Peewee and the rest were 11/16â. No size was given and I have seen plenty of theseâthe price was right after I gave an offer. I am not a âbig moneyâ buyer but for just over six dollars apiece, including shippingâI went for it. Akro corks are out of my bidding life on E-bay and that is why I am collecting Vacorâs nowâthey really take some sorting for me to be able to afford them as well. I jumped on this auction and was very surprised when they arrived. The patch is 13/16â(that is a very big Patch imho) and the biggest Corkscrew is 1â. They may be dug marbles but they are as close to mint as I require. I would have flipped over these 30 years ago at this price! I know right where they are going---In a box. The one inch marble?âon a pedestal, they are not too common-for me at least. The patches commonly appeared with corks of the same colors in boxes, no problem there. They are still out there---Just keep searching and be patient. (Luck counts to this dayâlol) I still get lucky!âonce in awhile. For a guy in a small town in Wisconsinâthis is just a killer findâjust killer. This kind of find keeps me goingâsearching!! MarbleâOn!!

Rainbos and Corkscrews--different but alikeâyou will never find them allâkeep trying though!! MarbleâOn!!

Yep! Hurricane imho--rare to find in this condition---I would trade for this one--just sayin!!--lol. I love this odd stuff--really love it!! Marble--On!!

This is a tuff one--lets lock out Jaybo for sure--the dimples make me say that. This is a 30's type marble imho. Marble--On!!

Uuugh does not apply here imho. I would love to know what it is---does it start with a R?? That is a close as I will get--I stiil suck at WVS ID's. This one is just Killer!! Marble--On!!

This is a pretty nice looker imho. CAC would be a stretch though--nice "Turkeys". No ID from me. All opinions are needed here. Marble--On!!

I did some research on this one before I purchased it. The Box is right, the marbles are right, the boxâwell, I did find at least one of them as Jobber boxes in my research. The inserts have a ten digit phone number on themâWhat?? Please sellers out thereâget it right and fool me wellâor not at all. This oneâalthough I do like itâwill always give me a bad taste in my mouth. The marbles at todayâs prices paid off as an investment. I collect and do not invest. The inserts will stay in this one for future collectors to think about. Maybe the inserts were missing?âI doubt it. Live and learnâthe books are not always right. MarbleâOn!!

I Never could afford one and never got luckyâLOL---yet I remember Popeye boxes that were claimed to be filled with Sparklers as original ââOxbloodsâas wellâthe fancy ones. I will say this; I got the inspiration for this post from a seller on E-bay. I do not know him/her and this is not an attempt to draw attention to it. I do not ever try to sell or advocate buying from any one. It is a very nice pouch thoughâlol. I am just looking for any info from the historical minds that this board has to offer. Were âPopeye boxesâ indeed filled with âSparklersâ or âOxbloodsââFact or Fiction? I appreciate all opinions and relish them as a collector. Thanksâand--- MarbleâOn!!

Tips for starting a collection?
akroorka replied to MeSurprise's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I went toe to toe with an Antiques Roadshow dude back many years ago over a nice big "Antique German" with some damage. They get on that show as appraisers for a reason--killer negotiators. I knew more than he did about marbles for sure---- I backed away and learned a bunch--he never flinched--not once. I will bet to this day that he dropped the price after we met. ( I still flinch--just not as much--lol). Live and learn--- Marble--On!! -
Size--it always matters-- Marble--On!!

Nice marble! If you want an ID --repost it--if not--Well---- I agree with you. The blue AV gives this one away. Some of the contract runs had patches involved--this one is "just killer"! Thanks for sharing it!! Marble--On!!
