I love the dirt. They should be put into a block of lucite for posterity. Oh-Oh a new sellers quest. Marble--On!!

The whole process of making a slag vs. a swirl is the same in the machine-made, more modern process vs. the first hand-gathered, or early machine made, slag days. The “batch of glass” was one mix of colors as determined by the maker. In the case of slags or transparent base swirls, white and a transparent based color. The collector’s eye determines the difference. I would call this one a slag because of the multitude of actions in the swirling. Later slag’s or swirls, made by various companies, look more like a transparent based swirl than a slag because of the lack of multitude in the intense swirling action in the interior/exterior white part of the marble. Slags are swirls and swirls are slags no matter the color involved. The transparent based ones are known by collectors as slag’s—or in the lack of intense inner/outer action, transparent based swirls. The marbles with many/few colors besides white and a transparent base are known as swirls. These are collector terms for the most part. This one may show fluorescence -does it? Marble—On!!

Not a Popeye x2-----A slag, more than likely an early second or third cousin to a Popeye. Akro started out making slags, the red ones always catch my eye. They are the ones that last over the ages, the slags. Very well made and made to compete with a variety of handmade marbles from the earlier times. A very nice machine made slag this is. It is hard to pin down slags but this is a slag, probably an Akro. Marble--On!!

Sorry WV Wednesday Post, I did not mean to intrude—at least I started it out right. Ya never know do you. Let’s finish this one today! Here are some images of marbles from the past years that I purchased from some of the diggers of the of marble company sites. They are all a great resource to have. I am missing some from Davis—anyone have any? I do not think that they ever imagined that folks would enjoy cleaning them and experiencing what they, the diggers did. All of these came quite clean and minty. I really did have intentions of figuring out these WVS. I have been keeping these as dug marbles for years, in a separate area, away from my “wild finds”. Maybe I should rethink that? Is there anything “wild” anymore? Yes, I believe that there is, but not on e-bay—lol. I only wish that I had started early enough to get some of the Primo Akro dug marbles. Did anyone ever dig at a Master Made or Master Marble site?? Image 1 is Jackson marbles Image 2 is Champion Marbles Image 3 shows some Alley Agate marbles Image 4—well, who could resist a pile of Akro Brick halves. Research, research, research, this is just a part of it, this is what I enjoy. Keep on selling the dirty ones diggers; they are worth more than you may think!! Marble—On!!

Happy Ground Hog Day everyone! Six more weeks of winter---yippee!! We all have marbles and other things that came from the ground. Found in the garden, dug from an old dumpsite, digging outhouse sites, found in the lawn and of course the ones we probably all have, known or not, from the older and newer factory digs. Show your favorite marble or thing that you know came from the “Ground”. Here are a few CAC halves that came from the ground. They can be pretty on the inside too. Marble—On!!

Thanks Chad, Great links!! Made in England—cool beans. Hardly any opaque Whisplers are shown though. Just the ones in front of the cool little box. I wonder if they are more scarce, or just not as desired. Marble—On!!

Here are a few links. Imperial had some packaging describing “made in India”. Hard to tell which ones though there are a few countries listed. Imperial filed for bankruptcy a few years back, now they are Ja-ru. They may have some info for you. The last two links are from “India Mart”. One link lists marbles as “made in India”. The other one has a video showing a stockpile—no wonder some are busted they way that person tosses them around. They still make “Cod Bottles” in India, I would just imagine that they make their own marbles for the bottles. Well Onions are round,there is a marble named after them and they just taste good. They fry up better than marbles too. Onions On!!---more needed for sure!!

Here is a nice swirl just a hair under 7/8”. Nice coverage all around but thin on the blue color. Two shades of white, one of which is translucent, the other being opaque. Nice deep red. The is some slight orange peeling. Could this be a Jabo? Thanks and Marble—On!!

My first impression on the first one was "wow, what a wierd cateye". I can't call it--cool one though! Marble--On!!

I agree Berryb. After examining the glossier hit-marks, it does appear to be a glass marble polished by the sands of a lake or ocean. A cool thing, does it backlight? Marble—On!!
