And no, Ron it def does not glow whatsoever. I need to learn more about Ravenswood. The last Co I barely have any but a few of their best handfuls of examples of. It’s crazy to me that Ravenswood made something so similar to Jackson. But I do see how the Jackson examples are more whispy than than this marble now Cheese.

This is why I thought it was jackson, the other marbles are 100% Jackson as I got them in an original Jackson bag. The marble in question is at the bottom of the 2nd row. The others are all Jackson. IE the first row is the single marble on the left with nothing below it.

Why do we spend untold amounts of money on small glass spheres? I’m 35 now, been collecting antique glass since I was about 19. I started collecting antiques whilst studying geology at Arkansas Tech in Russellville, AR. I was hunting for fossilized ferns, which were abundant from the Pennsylvanian era in a creek by my college probably around 2008. I came across a bottle sticking out of the creek bed and thought it looked strange. I pulled it out and it was unlike any bottle I’d ever seen and had Russellville Bottling Works embossed on it. I quickly learned it was a Hutchinson bottle from the 1890s. I went back to that spot and found a whole 1880s-1930s city dump that apparently had never been dug before. I even found two giant steel 4ft long railroad crossing signs and both of them, which weighed around 80lbs each. I donated them to the railroad historic museum in downtown Russellville a year or so later. Anyways, even since I’ve been obsessed with bottles and antique glass. I would dig up marbles and usually discarded them (which I wish would never have done now). it wasn’t until 2019 that I started learning about marbles after I found a red white and blue Akro popeye in an abandoned house in McKeesport, PA. Now I don’t even collect antique bottles or glass other than marbles. Marbles are just oh so fascinating. But why do we care so much about them? Me personally, I collect to preserve their history. Nobody I know cares about antiques, let alone marbles. I collect them not only because they are beautiful, but because I want to preserve them and learn everything about their history. I fear that everything will be lost when it comes to understanding antique glass and marbles. Hardly anyone my age, and especially even younger than me gives two shits about antiques or learning about history. I feel like it’s my duty to keep the history alive.

Probably a dumb question.

The only clearies that I have displayed are ones I’ve dug at marble factories and can be properly attributed to a certain maker. The ones I find in jars and such just end up back in jars. -
This isn’t a recent score, but I got these marbles in Jan 2020 (before I joined this forum and had at that point only been collecting marbles for a little over year). I was visiting my grandma who was 92 at the time, now she’s 94 and still kicking. I happened to bring up to her that I collect marbles and she was like oh, well I have some of your grandpas marbles in the basement. He grew up in the 30s and 40s and died in the 60s, way well before I was born. I obviously never knew him. But it was super awesome that I could now have his marbles from when he was a kid and nearly all in the fishbowl were in mint condition. These in the photos are the mint ones. Pretty sure the moonie in the second photo is a CAC moonie but I’ve never been able to confirm it. But it could be an Akro too. Not sure.

Champion? Jeez the more I learn the less I know.

No ideas I guess lol

Not technically a score as I found this online, but it will be a nice addition, will probably get it framed. A hard to come by Akro knee pad. Believe some of these came in Akro tins and boxes but not really sure. I’ve been to Roger Hardy’s Akro collection many times and don’t recall seeing the Kneepad before; although I’m sure he has many in his collection.

Ehhhh my best guess (which is a guess mind you) is pelt…
-
That’s what I was thinking, just never seen an alley quite like it but all other WV swirl mfgs seem to be out of the question.
-
^ im not seeing pelt in this marble…

These are all the Oxblood swirls I have with my akros, now I’m second guessing myself on some. Wasn’t aware that alley also made opaque milk glass Oxblood swirls. Most came from one jar I found at an antique store about a year ago.
-
I’ve always thought these were Akro, but what do I know? Was just looking at an alley book I have and there does appear to be an alley ox just like this (although with the pic provided I can’t tell if it’s ox or not, (it does say amber and not Oxblood in the description), which means I’ll have to re-evaluate all of my Akro Oxblood swirls)). I thought alley only made Oxblood swirls with a blue and white opaque glass base (2nd pic).

I’ve had this marble for a long time and nobody can seem to positively ID it. It’s a beautiful swirl and I wish I knew where it belonged.

Pretty dang sure this is a Rave. Just wanted to run it by everyone before I put it with my other ravenswoods.

I’ve had this marble for probably a year. I have around 60 Jackson marbles and this one looks eerily similar to some Jackson’s but I’ve never been 100% on it. Don’t think alley ever made anything similar. Heaton and Cairo are out of the question. The only other marble mfg it might be is Ravenswood as I only have a handful of examples from them. It could maybe be Champion but I don’t think so. it does not glow under UV.

Marbleholics Anonymous Meeting

No matter how many marbles I have I always want a little more. I’ve only been sober for 45 minutes and I’m already needing another hit. -
Hopefully he calls you back. I’ve had dozens of people say they have loads of marbles at home after they ask for my number and haven’t ever heard back from most of them…
