  1. Marbles(glass) that has been buried often get the coating you are seeing. It was not done on purpose
  2. The lack of surface variations scream polished to me.
  3. Most Flinties are not opalescent in my experience. I would not call Flinties a type of Moonie. But that is just me.
  4. Here is a pic with Clyde in it. It was a fun gathering. Hats off to Mike Johnson for driving 5 hours to get there.
  5. when I hear the term Moonie I only think of a whitish blue marble that is highly opalescent. either an Akro or a CAC. Many companies made marbles that are opalescent. They are not Moonies.
  6. I would not rule out a redo. The main reason I believe it to be new work is I have never(unless dug)seen a marble of this stature with such funky unfinished pontils. The surface also looks wrong to me.
  7. Sure looks like an old handmade from here. The stretched bubbles are a dead giveaway IMO
  8. Do you have any pics of a precision made McCormick marble?
  9. I believe Everything is done before the shears and the marble drops. I believe the early Marble Kings (ending in around 65) were the only truly completely veneered marbles ever made. All the others are varieties of patches IMO. Here is a pic that pretty much shows it is done way upstream. The one on the right is a later, after 65, type(patch on colored base),Not truly veneered.
  10. I have seen 3 of those sets in folks homes and they were all very proud of them because they thought the marbles were beautiful. I am sure they all paid a lot more money for them than I would have but they were very proud of them and happy to have them. None of these folks knew anything about marbles and did not collect them. They simply showed them to me because I mentioned I collected marbles. And every one of them was very sane. I did not tell them they paid much more than they should have. There was no need. And hand blown is a common misnomer when it comes to handmade glass. I have seen a thousand times worse things in ebay listings. Peace, Galen
  11. Didn't even know these existed until today. Champion wirepulls that were the result of a goofed up cateye run. And some are dead ringers for some German types.
  12. Rich, we are talking about machine made marbles. And I would love to see drawings of the glass stream mechanics that made those early MK patch and ribbon marbles possible
  13. I do not know of any Jabos that resemble wirepulls from Germany like Alan and Winnie posted. Nancy IMO yours are not the German wirepulls, but the left and center in the second row down do resemble them. Vacor de Mexico has made some marbles that really resemble the wirepulls and some WV companies have made some that may confuse many. Peace,Galen
