  1. I never said a bad word about Dave. Never have, never will. I do not believe saying I do not consider him an artist saying something bad. If Dave thinks it is I apologize. I did not delete anything. I also never said multiple crucibles were never tried before. I implied in these runs it was someone elses idea, and I will stick with that. And sure there have been some early attempts to add mica and maybe even aventurine(although most was accidental)(but they sure as heck didn't ammount to anything.) I also didn't hijack this thread at all. And when is the last time Hansel or Mike bothered chirping over here. I am glad I can take the personal attacks for feeling differently than the folks that are so high on the new Jabos. I am sure there are many more(actually I know there are) that simply don't post because of the personal attacks that are so freely given to some one that expresses a different opinion. As a matter of fact it just might be a silent majority(at least among vintage collecters and those that don't sell Jabos) Peace,Galen
  2. WOW! Looks like I may not be the only one that feels like I do. (LOLSHIPMP) peace,Galen
  3. I do not believe Dave is an artist. I do believe he has done some great work. I also believe there are many other folks that contributed a lot more to machine made marbles than he has. I will agree that article may have done a little for Jabo sellers on Ebay. I am OK with you not feeling the way I do. Please don't expect me to see things the way you do. Peace,Galen
  4. If it were not for the patents and machinery they would all still be hand made would they not. And Sellers feeders had much to do with the patterns on Peltiers. Peace,Galen
  5. Peltier used many of his own machines a lot of his own glass and designed the feeders sorters and the nozzles that made the patterns, These were multiple stream feeders and very complicated machinery. He also made Aventurine glass. Jabo uses old machinery designed and made by other folks and glass made by other folks. Nothing even close to comparing IMHO. I am sure Dave appreciates some folks elevating him to the status of these early guiniuses. Peace,Galen
  6. Throwing store bought glasses into the pot that results in a finished product is long way from actually making the glass and making the machines that make the marbles. And whose ideas was it to use the goldstones and other materials. If you say it was all Daves ideas I know a few people that might take offense to that. And don't dare try tell me it was his idea to use multiple crucibles which helped in the last runs. Do you really believe adding a bunch of different bought glass into the pot to create multiple colors is that big of a deal. Implying that the stuff being done at the recent Jabo runs is anywhere near the genius of Peltier, Christensen, Fiedler or even Alley is rediculous peace,Galen
  7. I think Sellers Peltier pretty much stands in a class all his own. From numerous patents and many inventions as varied as gob feeders to size sorters ect I think no one else really comes close. And untill the recent runs with lots of outside contributions did any of the Jabos really come close to the beauty of the earlier Peltiers? And those things were made many many decades ago. And I think Arnold Fiedler did a pretty good job at CAC and Akro. Having made marbles 80 years ago that no one has come close to replicating says a whole lot IMHO. And are we forgetting about Martin F. Christensen. Yes Dave has done a great job, but the best machine marble maker ever, lets get real. Some of those those old timers made the glass and designed the machines, that made the marbles. Peace,Galen
  8. CACs Their black can be a deep trans brown, red or nice opaque black
  9. Neat Idea. A contemorary marble artist may even be able to do it. Make a few very special marbles. My sister mixed some of Moms ashes into the ink used for a portrait tatoo she had done of Mother. Moms really with her at all times. Peace,Galen
  10. If you are finishing with 1500 then 3000 the cerium works pretty good. The secret to easier hand polishing is not skipping any grits. Peace,Galen

What does the top left say?
  12. WOW BO!, Sorry if I appeared to talk down to any one. I should have said I do not believe they are veneering the patch and the ribbon onto a white base. If you want to call the patch a veneer I guess you can. I have just never called the patch on a marble a veneer. Thats not what I was talking about anyway and these marbles are still totally different than the original patch and ribbon veneered on white type.(thats what this discussion is actually about) Sorry if I mislead anyone. That was not my intention. I still do not believe they are making any, where the patch and ribbon are veneered onto a white base. If you have some new ones like that I would appreciate seeing them. Not saying I am never wrong. And I do not doubt that with some glass making(for colors) and equipment machining that they could probably make them again. Peace,Galen.
  13. Although it does appear as a partial veneering the base glass is actually the ribbon color not a veneer. Thanks for the smash. Peace,Galen
  14. It is very easy to see none of the newer MKs are veneered. A hammer or a strong back light for some works great. Many mables from the 70s and newer have been sold to a lot of folks thinking they are the original veneered on white type. After having both types in hand it is fairly easy to tell the difference. Peace,Galen
  15. Duffy, If you have any factual evidence that they started Veneering the old colors on white bases at the factory again this would be a great place to share it. I do know there are a lot of folks besides me that would like to know any facts you have that we do not.
  16. Yes most are dug, and show slight crazing in the red explaining why they were dumped.(or maybe they didn't like the Ox) I do not believe they are doing any veneering at the plant or have done any in the last 40 years. I have seen a couple other color combos with the weird oxblood like striping on the end. They were also dug. I have been approached and asked if I would like to buy a large group of these marbles (from a dig site) Peace,Galen
  17. Exactly. Allthough there are some newer varieties, but they are actually very different from the veneered on white type. Like these shown
  18. Besides the economy I think folks are finally realizing these marbles are no where near as rare as once believed. I now know of several people with hundreds of the old original spidermen MKs. Once everyone finds out how common they really are the price drops. Common German handmades are at the same place. Certian types are reaching a point of saturation. Few new collecters and more and more marbles surfacing. As with many vintage items it is the folks that remember the items from their youth that do the most collecting. Many folks around now never played marbles as a kid so the number of collecters starts to drop way off. I have seen it happen with a few different items. peace,Galen
  19. It says there were 300 other marble kings for the year?????. Where are all the Trophies?????????????
  20. Can anyone show me a pic of a quinea, 2 seam slag or any other CAC of a non-exotic type that has a rough or weird raised folded type seam? Dug examples will work also. Peace,Galen
  21. A good loop will show the distinct ridges on handmades are usually smoothed out even with a buffing.(just another way to say polished if you ask me). Peace,Galen
  22. I have seen them sold for as little as 80 dollars at a show. the marbles just do not sell that well except on ebay. I almost always take one of those boxes to the shows and in the last 9 shows I have only sold 4 of the marbles in the box. and that is at $15-20. it just in the bottom of the storage box now. Peace,Galen
  23. 100-150 would be a fair price IMHO. Peace,Galen
