I still get a feeling when looking close at many single seam CACs(not all) that they are not one seam on top of another but actually may be some type of handgathered marble. Just a thought.

I told him what it was as did others. His reply to me was [iF YOU SAY SO THANKS]. IMO he knew exactly what they were when he put them up. Honesty is becoming a rare quality when Ebay is involved(or just $) Marbles seem to turn many people to the wrong side when $ get involved.

These pics are more accurate colors. The Blue is transparent. It does appear more Akro than anything else. If it just wasn't such a swirl. How about a pic of a similar cork. That would surely convince me.

I know more than a few that do not feel that way about them. I am one of them. They are not much different than the great repro Tin toys they are now making that are exact copies of the old games. Thats just me.

Folded up Akro IMO.

Like early rubber gutta gets even harder with age as it dries out. Gutta was used for golf balls for quite a while. It revolutionized the game as the feather filled leather balls were all they had until Gutta. The small ones do seem way too light to use in a game of marbles. Playing pieces makes sense. I can see the larger ones being used for carpet games for sure. I sure would like to see some original adds or any paperwork describing the Gutta marbles(balls). Peace,Galen

The handpainted actually was hollow. A early rubber ball IMO and Toms. I actually think they were all more balls than marbles. But whatever they were mainly used for they are very interesting and rare. Peace,Galen EDIT: I saw them at Samis and Vegas and to the best of my recollection it was hollow

I used to dig a lot for antique bottles. Living near a large Bay many old dumps sites are on the water line and slightly above. many glass marbles are found on the beaches near these dumps.(in which some were also landfills) The marbles even often appear at a certain level on the beaches during low tides. I have found many handmade German swirls in this manner. I also have gotten marbles from several of the major bottle diggers. I go to bottle shows to buy marbles as many diggers have them. I believe most marbles found on beaches were tossed away(or lost)in one way or another. And the fact that most of the marbles you find are cateyes pretty much eliminates any possibility they were ballast. I am one that believes the ballast stories are simply a marble urban myth. Glass marbles were too valuable to use as ballast and clay too light IMO. Also by the time glass marbles were being shipped to the US most ships did not have a need for free ballast. And they(glass marbles) were way too expensive to use as ballast IMO

I believe many of the Akro Moonies are swirl like. Some were done with the eye type machine(Flinties) The CAC moons were much bluer and more transparent. At least the ones I have seen. All the ones pictured above look Akro to me.
