  1. Since it is night time I thought my long gone Nebula marble needed to be seen again.
  2. thats because they can read our minds and we could never even come close to knowing what they are thinking(LOL)
  3. sorry Clyde I was referring to later Rainbos with color banding on the surface.
  4. Steph, Akro made Oxblood glass on purpose from batches of minerals and chemicals. Your post makes it seem you think Oxblood at Akro was an accident from making green glass??????
  5. Clyde I have to say that while some may think the set ups for making cateyes and Rainbos are a tad similar they are also quite a bit different
  6. the glass is made into balls for quality and shipping purposes. They are melted down and turned into glass fiber. They are also used in some cases as simple rollers for moving heavy objects around confined spaces(ie railroad cars) I also was told the were used by mixing into certian powderd product to help elliminate compaction during shipment in tanker cars. They were laying around in the hundreds along tracks Near my folks one time home in Riverside CA. Many neighbors gathered them up to use in rock gardens and other yard displays.
  7. Thanks Hansel for bringing that up, And Gnome, when it comes to OXBLOOD GLASS and glass with an oxblood color we are talking two different things. This helps keep an already fairly muddied topic from getting even more muddied. Oxblood colored glass is not necessarily Oxblood Glass. Although there are some very early Marble kings that have a very Oxblood looking streamers in one of the patches it does not even appear as genuine OXBLOOD GLASS . Spidermen being the most common. And yes many marbles made by German makers MFC and Akro purposefully made an OXBLOOD GLASS. I also believe that on occasion a true Oxblood Glass can be accidentally formed usually in association with a blue-turquoise glass color. I do not believe that is OXBLOOD GLASS on that MK. And it does seem you are saying any Oxblood colored glass on marbles should be called Oxblood. That just not the case. We need to have a line some where. Calling it Oxblood colored glass works for some folks but I do not even like seeing that. No blinders on here Gnome. Just an almost 30 year collector trying to keep his hobby getting even more confusing an muddied for new and even old collectors than it already is.
  8. I want to know what was flying passengers to all those cities in 1898?????????????????????????????

  14. But you didn't answer my question(LOL)
  15. I am not sure what Steph meant but more views "of" the marble may help.
  16. It is quite common in Peltiers for some of the aventurine to spread out over the marble in the thin clear surface layer of glass making it appear as if each color has aventurine
  17. Okay, so my detective work just did not pan out. I was remembering these pics from 1955 Sports Illustrated article but they just are not the same types. Okay back to thinking they are new.
  18. Rich gets on the defense fairly easy nowadays. Whats up Rich, hemorrhoids come back.
  19. Those #6 boxes were there worst seller so maybe with those?? That box with the NLRs in it has to be late 31 at least because that was the time they split from Gropper. That late 30s time period is looking real good. I believe there are also versions of the small cutout boxes that say National on them in some way that had early "Rainbo" types in them.
