Much better than 'nice"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it looks like more of those transparent brown glass swirls I am looking for

Or was Helmes hired when Fiedler was hired away from Akro by Sellers on Groppers recommendation and praises to hire ?? And as Mike points out he may have left without a new contract at Peltier for even bigger bucks at CA .(speculation on my part).

A trade is very possible. You could upgrade or get several different types? You would like them also!

I have found that the feathered pelt slags if examined close enough most often will show both cutoffs as they were Gob fed marbles. I believe the cerise were handgathered.
-
While I more than agree that Sellers was probably the brightest guy involved with marble making equipment and its functions, I think Arnold had a lot to to with other parts of the marble production processes. I also read that letter and thought it had a lot of bearing until I realized his contract extended way past the original year> Something to think about. And maybe he stuck to teaching gathering and making glass which would explain the resemblance of many of the slags as the machinery had next to nothing to do with the appearance of the hand gathered marbles. There is also a great resemblance between Akro Pelt and many CAC slag patterns. I personally believe Arnold was big on a method of handgathering that did not produce a lot of the distinct 9s found most prevalent on MFC and Foreign marbles. Although early CACs show some distinct 9s is it not probable that Fiedler was not at CAC during its earliest times???

Transitional Red Base White Cork
lstmmrbls replied to mmuehlba's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The glass was mixed(layered) in the pot for the gatherer. How it shows up on the marble can be controlled to a degree. Sometimes it was done so well they were able to make the Horizontals. With minimal controls it can be happenstance which color appears where. -
For many years it was assumed the boxes of Cerise Agate slags were Akro they resemble them so closely. Probably has a lot to do with Arnold Fiedler working at Akro before going to Peltier. And probably the same reason The Prima Agates are nearly Identical to American Agates as he went from Peltier to CAC. Here is a very neat excerpt from Arnolds contract with Peltier.

I have seen cullet glass from many types of the so called Exotics. Wish I had my camera at the time.

I would have thought the Akros with fish eyes came after that box. And the woodgrain pattern I am talking about is not just whisps. It looks very much like actual woodgrain and has pattern and form. Not just whisps. It is usually easy to see in Realers with the right lighting. As Mike says I have seen it in other Peltiers but never in any other companies marbles. Most of the CAC worlds best Moons I have seen look like Hansels and have lots of irregular whisping inside. I have only seen the translucent glowing marbles sold as Moonies by Akro, not the solid ones in that one box. I could not call those Moonies?

The woodgrain like patterns(feathering) inside the milkies and realers is one of the most outstanding feature of machine made marbles IMO
-
Or are Acme Realers actually Milkies with a patch?

I wish I wasn't color blind!!! the top one looks correct, I will walk down the street and ask the neighbors if they are green at all. And Whatever color the ones in the box are Dani, They look red-orange to me???Definitely a dirty musturdy yellow. misspelled on purpose(LOL)
-
That would be fantastic, When I had someone look at the "Black" and white the "Black" is a deep transparent glass that appears as a brown where it is thin on top of the white. I keep finding ones that are a deep purple and they just do not work.
-
I would also like to know If anyone has info Akro Agate marbles were ever distributed by Gropper. I believe some were rebranded by jobbers(like some nets of Akros)but never heard Gropper had anything to do with Akro.
-
looking for the last few to fill the box. If I wasn't a bit color blind I would be more help. The yellow in the yellow and red row is a darker color than most this size and more common in shooter size.

here is the box I screwed up

What Is The Story On Peltier White Onyxes?
lstmmrbls replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I would agree with MIke, possibly even a little later. -
I understand Hansels point and would certainly keep those marbles separated just in case I ever found out Akro products were distributed by Gropper. I have made a mistake myself with a box. I got a beat up Prima box full of what I assumed were American Agates so I put them with my CAC American Agates. Well I now think that the two types are pretty much identical (Thanks Arnold)and I made a mistake. Ooops, There was a great variance in size so I am sure all were not original but I would have kept many of them with the box if I knew what I now do. Gino now has a bunch of them so they went to a good home.

That last box pic is almost more than a guy can handle!!!
-
Very special box!! I would do everything possible to get the original Pelt types back in that box if it were mine. Those Akros kind of pollute it.
