OK i will bite again ! Grad a big bag of popcorn. I hoped maybe something new had come about. But not that i know of or see here. I still am not convinced that Alley made patch marbles at the Sistersville WV location. Why- Why would he make patches at Sistersville for only a short time in 1931 and he left there in late 1931. No patch marbles of any amount has been found at four other Alley locations from 1929 to 1949. In 1931 competition would be much more difficult with patches than swirls. I have maybe 10 gallon or more of marbles dug at Sistersville. I have seen and had in my hands another 10-20 gallon dug at Sistersville. From those numbers the majority 90% of the patch marbles match with what i dug and seen dug at Akro. I cannot match every single one but the majority. The ratio of matches is much more than a few odd ones that i do not have matches for. I have no doubts what so ever that i did not dig or have seen every patch that Akro every produced. I could not say that Akro discarded every type or color combo patch that they produced. I could not say that every marble Akro produced was put into good color pictures in Akro literature. I cannot say that i have seen or handled every single package that Akro did. I feel certian that some Akro marbles were sold bulk and never in a small package or box. There are Akro corkscrews found in the dirt at Sistersville. But not the numbers like patch marbles and swirls. Why are Akro corkscrews found in the dirt at Sistersville ???? If corkscrews ened up there why not patches ??? I would suspect that if Akro had excess of something cheap to sell it would be more patch type than corkscrews. I will post pictures of patches from the dirt at Sistersville and post pictures of patches from the dirt at Akro. You will see by the display cases that the majority are of patches found at Sistersville are not the ones usually pictured. The patches pictured most from Sistersville are not the largest number of patches found there. I doubt that anyone here today or only a very few anyplace today has had any more Sistersville marbles thorugh their hands than me. If so i would always like to see them for more comparision. In 1932 there were legal problems and Alley sold out to the broker either Berry Pink or more likely Morris Rosenthal. In 1931 Berry Pink had suggested that Rosenthal acuire the Alley business. In 1932 the company is listed as incorporated with Berry Pink as treasure and purchasing agent and Russell U. Adams as general manager. The legal case went to trial long after Alley left. The case ended up Berry Pink plantiff against Morris Rosenthal and the The Rosenthal Company of New York date April 15,1934. The major dispute was over 50% of the issued capital stock of Lawerence Glass Novelty Company. It was not unusal for Alley to leave once trouble began. He had left Ravenswood earlier because of trouble. This was when the Ravenswood equipment was destroyed by stangers for patent infringments. Did Berry Pink and or Morris Rosenthal produce marbles at Sistersvillein the years after Alley was gone ?????? Did Berry Pink or Morris Rosenthal package other companies marbles at Sistersville in the years after Alley was gone ??????? I think both or either could have been possible. I will state it once again . Lawerance Alley was not the only single marble person at the same Sistersville location. I can see other reasons that Akro or other companies marbles could have ended up at the Sistersville location. Other than being produced by Lawerance Alley. Somehow Berry Pink became head of the company after Alley left . Pink no longer worked for Lawrence Glass after this law suit. In another case held Dec.1934 Pink was tried in Tyler County WV (Sistersville)and found innocent of stealing two marble packaging machines from the company. So was Berry Pink packaging marbles at Sistersville. Was he packaging Alley marbles two years after Alley was gone. Was he packaging marbles from different companies ? Berry Pink evidently needed marble packaging machines which he and Rosenthal the company owned. The company continued to operate after Alley was gone. It operated until sometime between 1935 and March 1940. So a marble company was in operation at Sistersville WV at least four years maybe eight years after Alley was gone. If you want to identify the patch marbles found at Sistersville as being made by Alley, thats fine. But i cannot tell or teach people that. Because i still have doubts. I have no proof that Alley ever made a usual production patch type marble. Until i have better or new information to point towards Alley making a patch marble. I will not tell collectors that patches found at the Sistersville location were produced by Alley. I have been taught very well by some here and others that just because something is found in the dirt at a certian location does not alwasy prove that it was produced there. There has been numbers of Peltier marbles and original Peltier packages found in the dirt at the St.Marys Marble King location. Did Marble King produce Pelteir marbles at St.Marys WV ?????????? As much logic as Alley making patches at Sistersville. Enough said,i have said it all before, nothing new, just more repeat. If you believe and want to tell or teach that Alley made patch marbles for less than a year at the Sistersville WV location, thats fine. But i cannot do it. Maybe someday but not today. \ Please excuse the spelling and grammer mistakes, tired and sleepy. Several pictures to follow below.

I have several patches from Sistersville for sale. Alley was not the only marble person or people at the same site in Sistersville. -

Nice to know that about Winnie's blue one top center. I had never seen that particular color combo with lutz or aventurine from Sistersville. I only know it as from the St.Marys site. The cullet and these marbles have been found at the Alley St.Marys site. -
I agree with Ric.

Any Idea Of Value On Vitro Buddies Bags?
wvrons replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Value mint $200.00-$300.00 . Any mint mesh BUDDIES bag with Vitro helmets is rare no matter what color header. I have three mesh BUDDIES bags all with red headers. Mesh colors of one bright pink, one green and one faded pink. A couple more rare Vitro mesh bags are SPINNERS and RED HORSE MARBLES. Or the WORCHESTER SALT with Vitro Buttermilk marbles. -

From the Sistersville Alley site. I have about 3-5 gallon of them. Have looked over about 10-15 gallon. Also brought these home today. Thanks Steve. Ric also has a nice assortment of them. -
Several $7.00 marbles sold.

I don't think it would be so unusal for the same box or package to be used for 15-20 years. I think you might find several possibles if you check into every box or package that was used by Peltier,Akro,Vitro,Ravenswood, along with many jobbers. The problem is getting a true start date and a true end date for most marble packages. I have not ruled out that Marble King marbles were originally packaged in this type box. But i may have to change that thought someday ?
-
They definately predate Marble King Company. But i have yet to find proof that they were all filled before Marble King Company. I did not see in any of the advertisments stating that this box set was discontinued anytime before Marble KIng Company. Yes we know they were filled and around before Marble King Company. But when were they discontinued or no more made or filled ? With Berry Pinks tie to Marble KIng,if he or they had these boxes in stock why would they not put Marble KIng marbles in them ?
-
Steph are you saying that all these type box sets were filled, complete, finished before Marble King started in business ? That they were all filled originally before Marble King Co. and all predate Marble King company ? What is the exact date of these box sets ? Maybe a date can be put with these box sets by advertisments ? That would be a current date for the ad and box set. I am not sure that it would indicate a end date for use of these boxes ? If the ones filled with Marble King marbles were all backfilled, and not original someone was busy. Just me but,I have seen almost a equal number of all three companies marbles in these box sets. If the Marble King Co. filled other companies bags with their marbles, why could they or Berry Pink not have filled these box sets with Marble King Co. marbles ? Marble KIng Co. had direct ties with Berry Pink and Peltier. There is cross packaging between all three of these so why not these box sets ?

You find these box sets with marbles inside which were produced by Peltier,Alley and Marble King. Cambridge auction last Saturday. Five out of state house guest here since last Sunday and Sistersville show going since last Thursday. Long days short nights. Busy clam.

You can see four of them at my house. What do you need ?

Thanks for the help ! So all three above are Vacor.

Here is a comparison and the other two. The one on the right has i think the transparent green base. The one on the far left has the transparent amber base. The center one has both colors opaque. ???????

Chad maybe you or someone can help some. Do you know who made any of these three ? The first one is both colors opaque blue and black. Is has a twist or swirl like but i think i can see ribbons or ends of ribbons. Could it be a Blue Panther ? I think the other two might be Vacor. Both have dark transparent base, one is transparent green and one is transparent amber. I think they both might be Vacor Black Panther. I see that Vacor(Mega) made at least two or three different verisons or shades of their Black Panther. The first marble is a total different blue than the Vacors. The first marble is the only one that is both colors opaque.

With a quick look. It looks like a total online auction only. Looks a lot like ebay. We cannot and have no plans to compete with Ebay Morphys etc. Several others have tried that and trying that. We almost always have had over 300 lots etc. We were told people wanted to see the marbles in hand. I could have stayed home today and bid on a online auction. I enjoyed today much more. But that is going to disappear. Maybe not to many years away and most or all marble deals will be done online. Look at the majority of shows attendance. Too many things that will not work for Eagles Flight. The two owners of Eagles Flight has to discuss if the auctions will continue in 2015 ? Eagles Flight provided a service to collectors sellers and buyers more than a money making business.

You are not alone.

Are not most machine made marbles attributed to the company name that produced them ? I know habits are hard to break. But these are nice marbles and should have correct recognition. Winnie did the work,i remember it well. But here in the U.S. they are still labeled or called Euros ! Most people still do not know the informaion as witnessed above. The old habit will only change when each time Euro is used. They receive the latest information and willing to change and move forward. Is it going to be Amsterdam swirls wirepulls or the company name that produced them ???? Thank you again Winne for your work. I still have the marbles you sent me several years ago.

So far we have not found a volunteer to take bids, get the payment made by auction end direct to the auctioneer, collect packaging fees, package and ship items, then deal with returns and refunds. Refunds come from your own pocket but you can keep the marble because the seller already has been paid in full. Bring your laptop and take internet bids. Bring your cell phone for phone bids when they can get through. Stay with it for four hours or more unless you have a backup relief. If no volunteers maybe we can put you on the payroll for about $25.00 for a 10hr. day. What i got for the previous auction work. Sorry about the punch in the gut. It may go away soon. Not many things survive without support. But todays buyers definatley left happy.
