Ric
You lay the heart in a fire or on a woodstove, etc. to heat it up. Then you pick it out of the fire with the stand and set it (heart hanging) on the table. You us a dropper to put medicine in it (e.g., eucalyptus) and you inhale the vapors. Yup . . . I completely made that up.

Steph
The only guess I have at all is something to do with curtains. But that guess is given without knowing what size the heart is.
Steph
Very cool, as always. ( : On the lighter side, this isn't what you'd call 'eye candy', but I don't know where else to put it. Turned on a lamp I never use and noticed this shadow on the wall. Gumby made me laugh. But I waited for someone else to write LOL for me and it never happened. And now the picture has disappeared. But the "we're down for maintenance" GIF at photobucket is almost cute enough to make up for the inconvenience. *panicky thought about what would happen if photobucket permanently went down*
Hack
The object is a hand forged 18 th century gate weight. Predecessor to the modern door closers. They made them in a variety of shapes, this one is probably Pennsylvania Dutch .
Ric
That is pretty cool, Hack. It doesn't seem like it would be heavy enough. How big is it, and how much does it weigh? Any idea why it has holes in the top?
Hoody
Oh, a door closer operating by its weight. So maybe the holes are for trimming the weight by filling in sand or water?
Hack
Hoody is correct . Weighs about 10lbs . Marble is 1 1/4"

bumblebee
Found this 3.5" rock in Death Valley. My guess is that texture is "ventifacts" caused by blowing winds.

kbobam
I may be in one of my goofy moods. But what I like about this photo is the tension that results from something just seeming wrong. Somehow I just expect a very cold environment to remain 'frozen'. Not a lot of sound or activity. Especially the sort of activity that would seem to involve heat, and probably lots of it. Similarly, I expect a very warm environment to remain 'languid'. So the identical yet completely different analogy here would be a volcano in Hawaii suddenly spitting out giant frozen hailstones.
