sclsu
I have an opportunity to buy these but I don't know for certain if they are real. I don't have exact measurements but the animal is more than 1-1/2" and the number is around 1 1/4" (these are estimates, didn't have my caliper with me). Any thoughts? Anything I should look for if I have them in hand?
Steph
I don't know much about sulphides. Do you have a handheld blacklight? If I understand correctly, old sulphides will fluoresce and new ones won't. (Can someone confirm? Am I overgeneralizing?)
lstmmrbls
Your statement is right on.
BobBlock
These are both real. You don't need a black light to tell. The #2 has been heavily polished
Minnesota Marble
Both are real and common figures. As mentioned, the 2 is polished with no original surface remaining.
raynsandy
If you have modern glass and hit it with a reduction atmosphere in your glory hole, you can get it to look like old glass.
lstmmrbls
In what way?
Alan
In what way? By striking the glass. Some of those I've seen have a slight purple cast.
sclsu
How much is a fair price to pay for them?
lstmmrbls
you can probably get a similar dog for 50-60 at a show and the number isn't worth anything to me.
FISHSLAYERMARRBLEGRIFF
The number 2 is not common, polished or not, And testing sulphides with a black light is not 100%. They both look vintage to me.
lstmmrbls
I have never hit a sulphide that I believe to be old with a good UV light and not gotten at least some glow out of the clear glass? But I would assume there may be some that have no glow at all. Griff do you recall the figure if you have seen some that do not glow?
