I felt very fortunate to have seen that but!, got me thinking would they try and take my Addie dog? I have heard stories!! but I thought they where scavengers ? any info would be great! Fire1981
Don’t fool yourself. Eagles and Owls will go after 8-10 pound prey. I have 3 Great Horned in my neighborhood. One strafed the yard 2 nights ago an hour before sunset going for my chickens. Since then they stay in their run and don’t get to free range. 🔥
Fire1981
I fought fires in AK. While up there I have seen Bald Eagles pull salmon out of the rivers and snatch ducks off the lakes. 🔥

schmoozer
We see them on a regular basis on hood canal in WA state. They love to harass the seals when they surface to eat a salmon. We have 5 small dogs, and are ever watchful when they are in the yard.

Chad G.
I live right along the Columbia River in WA. state not to awful far from Brad up North. When I'm fishing I watch them and Osprey catch live fish all day long. The bald Eagle will scavenge, I think of them as more of opportunist, eating what they can when they can. If it wasn't Winter I'd say the Eagles were mating but since it's not. Yeah, probably a good idea to keep a close eye on your pooch ?? Beautiful Mating Ritual :: 1

Females tend to weigh between ten to fifteen pounds more. Females will typically have a wingspan of up to eight feet..!!!.......Holy crap! have you ever seen the difference? Way back when they were rare I saw one snatch a big Pike out of the water--very cool. I am more worried about Coyotes taking my dogs than Eagles. I keep the dogs fenced up for that very reason. Eagles will take small dogs—or cats. They are just a big Chicken—they will eat about anything.

I have been seeing Eagles everywhere now! I guess they are coming back ten fold! Happy Thanksgiving Art♥
akroorka
Yes, They are coming back in a big way Gladys. I have seen several in my back yard over the last few years. The Crows always tell the tale. What fun it was to see a bunch of Crows harrasing an Eagle. One-then two, then five, then a whole bunch. The Eagle just left for greener pastures, the Crows could not keep up.
William
The Eagles have been all over along Highway 44, thanks to Minnesota's firearms season. Lots of deer on the run having not such good luck crossing. Ring the dinner bell! As Art stated, the Eagles are filling our skies with a vengeance. They have been cleaning up the unfortunate ones that couldn't make it across 44, and the crow's are right there "waiting in the wings" (no pun intended?), and jump right in when the Eagles finish up. I did love watching the Eagles on the Mississippi river while I fished last year, diving down for a meal too deliver too their nest nearby. I could just see the eaglets bobbing around in the distance as the parent landed. It's great to see one flying just about every day I'm out and about. I should throw it in there since we're discussing Raptor's and their feeding habits...I got too watch a Red Tailed Hawk snag a mouse out of a roadside ditch then glide up to a Telephone line to inspect its prey. Watching it swoop down was a thing of beauty.
