Pearlized PPP

Fire1981

Recommended Posts

Pretty much anything with two colors or more was an experiment.

Even if a pair of colors worked for one run, there was no guarantee that the colors would fit the next time.

***
The sheen, opacity and surface texture of the green on the PPP was truly unique.  Can anyone name another manufacturer with that glass?

My vote that this outcome was never planned and a pure accident.

***
Are there any shooter sized examples of the PPP?

Peltier had a formula for pearlized glass.  Pearlized patches were produced intentionally, but weren't produced in great numbers due to their tendency to fracture.

I would be interested in seeing it if you have a reference in print.

Wouldn’t argue that any glass manufacturer started with a formula.

However, the result was most often different than the original intent.

Happy accidents do occur. The adhesive on Post-It Notes was a serendipitous failure.

How many base colors of PPP are known? Four? White, Blue, Green and Tan? The rare fifth with black base?

***

Was there four different runs or one run with four different bases?

***
Were PPP found in sets?

***
Were PPP dug artifacts?

***
What documented sizes are there? Did they tend to run under 5/8”?

***

Is the pearl green just a variation of aventurine green?

***
Henry Helmer’s formula notes are insightful. Very minute variations in components create varied results.

This is awesome. So here’s where I’m at. If the Pearlized Patch was compatible with different base glasses there probably have been more produced and marketed. I only know that there are true Pee Wee’s and 5/8ths PPPP. Thanks Shamrock for sharing all of your information and shedding light on Helmer’s formula notes. You make marbles and am sure you have tweeted your formulas as well 🔥

Fire,

I don’t formulate or make glass. My glass comes from various suppliers.

I totally respect those that do make glass, because I understand what hurdles they face.

Bullseye sells colors in both Tested Compatible 90 COE and Stained glass (not rated).

Bullseye starts with a formula intended to make 90 COE Compatible glass for fusing.

After the glass is melted and rolled into a sheet, they test for compatibility or fit. If it fits, then it gets their compatibility logo. If not, then they sell it as stained glass.

Finally, Bullseye has a disclaimer about their 90 COE Compatible glass.  They recommend the artist to do final testing in their studio. In other words, there’s no guarantee.

The rare fifth with black base?

I would love to see one Shamrock--the black based ones.

Do not get me wrong--if you have seen one I believe it.

The "Pearlized Patch" must have been an experiment that went wrong but due to the colors involved they were a run with different base glass colors tried.

Peltier marbles that were dug are as rare as any except for (Master Made--never seen one or heard of one).

Patry Denton was a big fan of these--where she got them from? Who knows?

Was she in with "Migbar" @Fire1981?

I have never seen a bag or box that included them.

If anyone saw these in original packaging, it would be @Al Oregon--lets ask him for an opinion here.

I recently saw on this board, a corkscrew that looked like it had a "Pearlized" line in the glass--very cool.

I just love this stuff.

Marble--On!!

It would have been in Sami's book.

I did not find a photo in that book.

I am fallible, and always welcome a guiding hand.

UPDATE:

Went through the book a third time and realized the paucity of information regarding Peerless Patches. Then realized they weren’t really invited to the party.

Here’s a photo of the “Table of Contents”:

The only two sections where a PPP would be shown are “9-Rarities” and “14-Original Packaging”.

Nope, no samples of Peltier Pearlized Patches are shown.

Maybe another book?
