  1. Brought a big lump to my throat. May he ease out of his misery and continue his journey, as we all must.
  2. I always forget about those darn Europeans! Still, the same question: why so much for a white-based flame?
  3. Browsing through the Chrissies on ebay and came across this one. It surprises me that it's gotten bid up so high. It's a flame on a white base, which normally aren't considered so exciting. What am I missing? http://www.ebay.com/...=item20c376bded
  4. Is this the book you were soliciting photos to include in early January or is that to be your next one?
  5. I've never heard of one, so congratulations on a rarity! I have a small handmade swirl with mica--can't remember exactly what kind of swirl it is.
  6. Hmm.....maybe mine is actually a Master Marble comet or such. It doesn't have the squared off cutlines on both ends of the design that yours show. Thanks for the input.
  7. Sissy, mine looks exactly like the one on the left in your first photo. Can you tell me what sizes these are often found in? Thanks.
  8. Not getting any response from my earlier post about sorting and finding what I hope is a nice Berry Pink marble. Anyone got a picture that would help?
  9. Like many of you, over the years I've accumulated boxes and bags of marbles that weren't really worth putting in my display cases. Today was a snowy, cold day, so with nothing better to do, I set about sorting through mostly with the thought of tossing the really chipped ones. I found a cool Vitro "V" with a nice clear blue matrix and a V of oxblood strands. It would be impossible for me to photograph with my limited skills and I doubt the oxblood would even show up, so suffice it to stick it in my Vitro case. The other one I initially thought was a sunburst type, then a light bulb went on and I think it's actually a 3/4" Berry Pink. Mine, if it's really a BP, has gray and red stripes on a white base. I could try to take a picture but I'd rather have someone post a picture for me to compare to, or at least a description. Strangely enough, I couldn't find a picture in any of my marble books. The nice thing is I've always wanted a Berry Pink but forget to look for them on Ebay.
  10. I hope so, I'll return to selling on ebay! Pelt swirls usually go between $15-30 depending on pattern, color, etc.
  11. I have at least one fluorescent popeye around 5/8 and would expect its value to be maybe $30-45. Descriptions that say "mint" and then reveal that there are pinpricks drive me nuts. It would be better to just say "pinpricks on the surface" and not give it a grade.
  12. The first picture is a transparent NLR. I've had several over the years. Back when Les Jones was selling (obviously before he died) on ebay, he used to get quite a few $$ for them. Now they seem to be mostly ignored. I don't know about Woodies--apologies to those who might know I'm smirking as I write that.
  13. In your first post, I'd say the onionskin is slightly lobed. You can see it in the lower left picture. Sometimes the lobes are much more obvious. The Akro question: is it fluorescent? I've had several of those where the white is sort of creamy in color and the red is transparent. To me it's just a red and white corkscrew, but the fluorescence is part of the definition of B & B. If you can't see any spaces between the colors on the central core of your last marble, it's safe to call it a solid core. Maybe it's called finned when it's constructed like yours? Whatever, it's really pretty. Finally, I vote onionskin on your 2nd marble. Nice group.
  14. 1stopmibshop had a mint Peltier Superman on ebay that had a Buy It Now price of $175 on it this past week. It didn't sell & I don't know if he's relisting it. By lavender and orange snake, do you really mean an opaque corkscrew in those colors? I've never seen a snake with both lavender and orange. Oxblood bricks come up on ebay quite often. Peltier Blue Galaxies are rare enough that they seldom come up for bid and most collectors won't part with theirs.
  15. Seems like I remember some heated discussions about this seller in the past.
  16. I have 3 solitaire boards myself but I don't think I have even one mist. Now I have to go look and see if there's a pink solid core anywhere.
  17. My guess would be Ravenswood, but I'm probably wrong.
  18. I don't think they're especially rare but I could be wrong. Blue Bees are best! (Notice why I say that.)
  19. I'll be sending my contribution to Alan via Cheryl to the address provided in the other thread. It was wonderful to read the tributes from those who purchased a marble. Long ago, I bought several marbles directly from Alan back when he had his own website where you could browse, select a marble and buy it, confident that what he described is what you'd get. I will also miss his contributions to those inflammatory topics on his board, such as the origins of the CA "Exotics", the nature of "true" oxblood in marbles, etc. I always hoped he'd get around to writing his own book on marbles. Alan, thank you for making the world, not just the marble community, a better place. Andrea
  20. The green/purple swirls used to bring pretty big bucks on ebay. Can't remember if it was Les or Alan who sold them.
  21. I have one that's 5/8 and one that's an inch, both opaque. I kind of thought Pelt clowns are all opaque. No? Otherwise, aren't they just a variation of rainbo?
  22. Hey Bill, That green brick is to die for--does it also have blue??????
  23. I do have 4 or 5 bricks, so I know what they're supposed to look like. Just got carried away with thinking this was something unusual that no one else had noticed.
