  1. I too haven't seen any true teal colored slags. Cool! Dan, is the 2nd one vaseline glass? If so, I'd guess Akro.
  2. Hey, Bob, tough luck! Seriously, I promised another forum member long ago that he'd have first dibs when I want to sell the Blue Bee. And I think there's a person 2nd in line whose name I wrote down somewhere too....It is a beauty, one I got by sheer good luck.
  3. Whoops, obviously I am not a male!
  4. I think it's fair to say that many who visit this forum abstain from expressing an opinion because they fear the inevitable bashing that often follows. I'm going to place my head on the chopping block here, but Steph can feel free to move my piece to the buy-sell-trade forum since that is the topic of this post. (However, it will reach more readers here.) Every few months I visit the aforementioned buying/selling forum to see if there's anything interesting to buy or sell. If I see someone is looking for something I have, I often reply and upon request, supply them with photos, description of size and condition, and a suggested selling price. Pulling out the marbles, examining them under magnification, photographing, downloading and emailing the pictures all take me quite a bit of time. (Granted, no one is making me do this.) Yet over and over, after having gone to the trouble to provide information on what I have, the would-be buyer vanishes without the courtesy to email with a "thanks, but I guess I'll pass" or "thank you for taking the time to send the pics" or even a "your prices are outrageous--let's negotiate". I've come to the conclusion that most people want you to offer rare, mint examples that only cost $5 apiece. OK, guys get ready to scream foul: I've only had this experience with male collectors! Not one woman has ever failed to respond to an email and all ladies, for ex. Zaboo, have been very courteous and responsive. To be fair, I have had pleasant dealings with a few of the men who are regulars to this forum and even some of the greats with fabulous collections, such as Les Jones, Alan Basinet, Ken Fung and others. I consider Bill Tow a real gem and have exchanged emails with him several times. They were/are real gentlemen. The exceptions to this category know who you are and I'm sure they're each saying "tough poop, lady, quit whining". I think it's possible to be a collector and show courtesy to others in the hobby.
  5. Oh all right, Sue.....Here's my "prize winning" catseye from years ago. Whose contest was that?? And here's a one-incher that's solid aventurine. I'm fond of both of these. Actually, I look at my catseyes as much or even more than my more expensive marbles.
  6. I know your question was about common popeye colors, but I love showing these unusual combinations.
  7. I posted a large group shot in buy/sell/trade. Will try a couple more posts with more pics.
  8. Check out my post under buy/sell/trade if you're interested in some nice Akros.
  9. I feel like chopped liver. I used to get the Running Rabbit auction catalogs and may have even bid online on one of the Morphy auctions at one time.
  10. I have one I picked up at a flea market. Patry Denton asked me for it in the event I ever wanted to sell it. Sorry to say the opportunity will never come now, but here's a photo.
  11. I didn't know there was another flower freak who visited this board! Great pictures and great growing! You have a splendid assortment of daylilies. My favorite was Anzac! Love the darker colors, but also the Arctic Ice. You must be a warmer zone than I am. Our asters haven't opened yet and I've never seen a fluffy type so they must not be hardy for VT. Thanks for sharing. You must post those on the Gardenweb Perennials forum!
  12. I have 3 of the fancies for sale. 2 are the brown base with dark red & green mottling and 1 is the glazed white with blue & brown splotches. Mint and about 3/4". Sorry, I know there's a buy/sell/trade section but since the topic came up here, I thought I'd post.
  13. Dammit, I'm moving to Holland. That's just unbelievable. Hey, my daughter lives in Brussels. Are there any good flea markets in Belgium??
  14. I agree the pictures aren't great, but enlarging them helps and they don't look "ruff" to me. Anything over 11/16 on a GR usually brings high bucks. That said, you can buy a really nice refrigerator for that amount of money. (Just a bit of female perspective.)
  15. Not a banana, definitely, but a 1-inch cat that's totally aventurine.
  16. Back "in the day" when I first started collecting, those mint 2-color CACs were worth at least $50 each. At 600+ marbles, I think the buyer did well even if the market for marbles is down a bit.
  17. Lots of times it's just the timing. Or the right person came along and said "I need that one." Must be someone who isn't affected by the Great Recession!
  18. I had a cornelian, but sold it long ago. It was confirmed by Les Jones. In his own words, they weren't very attractive (I agree) as they were an opaque red and very plain. I think many are confused by the similarity in spelling with carnelian.
  19. Here are a few of the harder to find and/or colorful Pelt types.
  20. I see the ones with white outlining the V. Are those wedding cakes?
  21. This is a particularly colorful horseshoe cat.
  22. It's not colorful, but quite unusual.
