  1. Didn't you see the "not' at the end of Mike's post? This is Mike's sense of humor. He was not describing what happened, but rather what people on the chat boards think did happen.
  2. Sami, if I decide not to post, I can help you find the color combinations you want. Even if I have to do pics and send them through email to you. this time there doesn't seem to be as much opposition and there does seem to be a lot of sensibility.
  3. I have made a revision to one of my posts above. I read a post incorrectly, thought it was marbleous1 posting and it was Mikey. So I changed David to Mikey W. Not all that important, but I needed to clarify it. Edna
  4. During that same time period you talked about Mikey W., Weldon and I were selling contemporary marbles and we got the same reaction. "Nothing in here". We managed to sell handmades and finance a lot of the vintage we were buying. We went to the Hannibal show in the mid nineties and we had Wilganoski and Bob Powers marbles. Men came in, bought a couple and left. We kept being visited and each person would buy a few. We didn't know what they were doing. They went to John Hamon Miller and showed him the marbles they had bought and demanded he shut us down. He asked what are they telling you about the marbles? They said they told us they are new. Said a couple of men who worked at Texas A&M were making them. John then came to our room and he looked at the marbles. Whenever we saw anybody focus on those we started saying, "Those are contemporary. They're made by Bob Powers and Fred Wilganoski. " He talked to us a while, mostly about his uncle Bob Hamon and then he told us why he had come to our room. He also said I don't have a problem with these marbles. You've been honest about them, they're pretty, and I told those gentlemen, "IF you feel so strongly about those marbles that they shouldn't be sold why do every one of you have a pocket full of them?" We have been around long enough now to see people collecting handmade contemps. We have a large contemp collection ourselves. At our marble show May 1, we have 3 contemp artists who are going to demo the making of marbles. Our club asked for that. I got marble mail yesterday. Dave McCullough sent me a mesh bag of Kokomo's. They were made April 4, 2010. I searched them for an example that everybody is talking about (lookalikes). I didn't find any.
  5. David, have you been involved in a JABO run? I mean marbleus1
  6. Anybody find it odd that the mods and owner haven't checked into this thread? I would not want to post a JABO thread without their input.
  7. Mikey is not trying to fool anybody. Now we all know to look closely at silver oxbloods. LOL
  8. I went back to that silver ox JABO and read it. That's Mikey. Mikey has been in our Tribute group forever. Notice how honest he is describing that marble and then his statement. One for the books! I have just pulled a vintage Akro Silver Oxblood from my collection for a comparison to the marble listed above. You are going to have to be really expert in the field of identification of marbles to figure out who made this one. This marble is about wet mint! I will not say perfect as you may notice a/some slight as-made micro-sparkles depending on how an individual might grade. This marble is extremely clean and looks really good. I just thought I would put this one out there for those of you that like special and exceptional goods. Come from the New Decade Run of 2/8/2010. Folks on the Marble Chat Boards are sure talking a bunch about marbles like this. I was at this run. Nobody said a word about making anything like anything. What comes out of the marble amchines when glass and color is added just happens. There wasn't a soul saying let's make something that looks like a something but this sure does look even better than a Akro Silver Oxblood in my opinion.
  9. And my post came before your question about the JABO silver ox looking like akro and then I went on to something else. Not ducking your question. Yes, it looks very akro except: I don't have any akro that are flamey. That thing has flames to rival Alley and CAC. Would that cause you to wonder if it was old?
  10. I think I need to say this again. I don't have any marbles (JABO) that look like vintage. I'm not hiding any marbles. If I had some that could be mistaken, I would be posting pics and warning people. Honest people would do that. I don't have any Tributes or other groups marbles that are look alikes. I do have Joker oxbloods. They don't look like akro to me.
  11. I haven't seen any of the New Decades. That silver ox JABO is pretty.
  12. David, are you sure those are JABO silver? I've never seen any like that. Since his other marbles are not JABO, I'm thinking those silver oxes aren't either.
  13. Bocci's site is not an option for me. It will be here or nowhere. Sorry, that's how I feel. The main stream collectors who want to learn, know, and see are HERE. If I do it, I will ask others who don't want to read about JABO to ignore the post.
  14. One other thought - The pics at JABO land are not complete and most of them are individual marbles. We all know each marble is different. I believe it will take a pic of a group of them to be of real value. Say 7 to 10 marbles alike. I have marbles from Boyce Lundstrom, Mike Barton, Kevin Plummer, Ed Parsons, Tom Jinks, David McCullough, Steve Smith, Ron Shepherd, and probably some more I can't think of without getting out the marbles. Where I know about a run, but don't have marbles, I would say so and perhaps someone in that run would post pics of those.
  15. I want the thoughts of some others and then I'll decide if it's worth doing. With my own JABO's I think I can cover 99 % of the experimental runs to date. Friends have been generous in sharing with me and I with them.
  16. thank you David. If I do such a post here, it will be factual and truthful. If I did such a post, dates would be important as well as names of people involved. David, you are welcome to add in, if I do it. You and I are on the same page. I have dear friends in many of the runs that I know would help. I need others to say that we need such a post with pics of all of them. I will not do it if the critics want to disrespect it. Let me know if it's needed.
  17. I could post JABO pics on this board showing all the Tribute marbles and most of the other experimental runs. I have collected some of all of them. I would be happy to do that if it would not start the usual bombardment. It seems to me that it might help a lot of us be familiar with what is out there and maybe prevent buying what have come to be called look alikes, though I don't think I have any that are. I know dates of runs and names of runs. You could know too, if you had the JABO books. I know several people that could add to that type of thread and share some of what went on. Let me know.
  18. You would have to ask the Brandstetters and Randy Gossett about that. The idea came from them.
  19. I have checked the box where I keep the parrots and I found hope that there may be some out there. I have 2 of these and they are both .86 inch marbles. Many people do not consider these two to be parrots because they only have 3 colors. Now if just one more color were added and I suppose that was possible - maybe some parrots do light up. I took a pic with my black light and no lights. Unfortunately, I don't know how to shut off the flash. The last pic is with black light. When the flash goes off, it negates the black light. Look closely at the yellow and you can see two yellow colors. The darker yellow lights up orange with the black light. These are tigereyes - yellow jackets and they do light up. Now if these colors light up, perhaps there are some parrots out there that also light up. Of course we know that the parrots are also a form of tigereye?
  20. I'm having to sit by the computer, printing pics for boxes. I did go to the marble case where I can see vitros that are 5/8 and 3/4 ths. My parakeets to do not light up. However, I discovered that everyone of my 1 inch wedding cake vitros are "hot". I may be able to quickly get to the parrots. They are in a small collector box. I'll check the next time I can leave the computer printing to see if any of my parrots light up. I really doubt it.
  21. That's not a lizard. Thats a pretty dragon! I have some marbles made by Cal Sugita that have dragons on them. Mark Capel makes really nice glass dragons, fumed with gold.
  22. I think I can date it better for you but, I am so busy making boxes for the Tribute Legacy marbles, getting the boxes completed before the Texas show that I can't take time to unstack my classic JABO boxes and see which other marbles those are boxed with. You could be right about 90's because I remember buying some really pretty ones at Pilgrim Glass and being told they were made with Pilgrim cullet by JABO. Most of them lit up with a black light. It may take me several days to unstack, but I will get back to you. I also haven't used the black light on my parrots, but I don't think I have any that react to black light. While I'm doing it, I'll try blacklight on the parakeets and other similar ones. They are easier to get to.
