  1. Hi Cees, thanks for the response. It's kind of funny that you mentioned the glass factory in Holland that has made glass marbles. Here's what I know about it:A close friend of me,told me that he went with his father in the 50s to a glass factory to buy marbles. You see his father was an artist who made sculptures of pottery, sometimes he used glass for his objects,he melt the marbles. The funny thing is:this glass-factory was located 100 yards from where i live in Amsterdam. The adress was:Realengracht 20 Amsterdam. The name of the factory was:Veiligglas N.V. In a local newspaper the son of the factory's owner has confirmed that marbles were made in the factory. At that time the son was too young (the 50s)to remind himself much more. Till now i've not done enough research about the whole thing,I still don't know what kind of marbles were made there. When I know something more I'll let you know. The building doesn't excist anymore, new appartements are build at that place. Here's a picture that was add by that interview, where the factory was located. Wanna dig there?LOL winnie
  2. Mike,I've always thought that this sort swirls are slightly related to the wirepulls. Often they have a brownish transp- base, this one has a red transp- base. Thanks for all the pictures, they look all foreign, are they? Anyway a nice collection of wirepulls, sparkler types-German 2 seam slags and striped opaques? Your fourth picture, the white base with yellow stripes, whats it? winnie
  3. Ron,I've searched the internet for a long time cause me too want to know it. There were so many glasshutten in former east Germany, all of them had the potential to make marbles as a by-product. I think it was not that important for them as it is for us now these days. I know they're proud of theire hand mades, there's a little documentation about handmades thats all there is. About old machine mades nothing so far is documentated causes by the lack of interest. I can't do this on my own. Cees do you know something more about old machine made marbles? Immuehlba thats a nice flame. winnie
  4. How about a German machine-made? winnie
  5. Found this picture, they all have colored bases except for the middle one and I keep them with my wirepulls, not sure at all if they're indeed wirepulls. winnie
  6. Only found 2 blue transparante based ones with only a white swirl in it,I keep them in my boxes of wirepulls, could be exceptions.
  7. Ron you are right sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between a wirepull and a swirl. I've 2 boxes full of them cause they're easy to find here, but I doubt many times if they're are all true wirepulls. Almost all of mine have a clear base with a white continuous swirl edged by a color. I found here also exceptions such as only one color swirl with no white. And a few with a colored transparante base. I agree with you that can be confusing. winnie
  8. Buddy, that blue in green base is sweet!! And now i'm going to look in my wire box for a green base one, although a green in blue glass will also do it for me. winnie
  9. LOL it's an old camera,I tried a new one but could not get used to it. Sony DSC-F 717. It has an extra macro lens. 5.0 mega pixels, and now these days you can work with 15.0 mega pixels. I take the photo's of marbles on a gray underground and in photo-shop i can easy change the background in every color i want. winnie
  10. Some of them are quite pretty,I bought a few here in a giftshop for 50ct by piece. They have a sort of a pontil,a rough spot at one pole. winnie
  11. havethat(don't know your name),thats a cool one,I can see the aventurine in yours. Yours is transparante, mine is opaque. Me too wait for a sunny day to take better pictures cause it has lots of aventurine that i can't catch. For now we only have snow here the last week,I use to like it but not anymore. It's not normal so early this year. I think it has something to do with global warming LOL.
  12. Here you can see,it begins with a straight line and got into a curved line, with some asmade dimples. You also can see that it has under the green color a blueisch purple color and thats strange aswell. I'm not certain,it's either Japanese or German. winnie Forgot to say,I think it has been made accidentally this way.
  13. Aventurine is something I didn't see before in transitionals,so I was surprized, did some one see it before? winnie
  14. Made in Germany, before WW11 and after till the 60s. Sometimes they have a bit flamey tips. Nancy,I really don't know if yours are German, most of the time they've a wire of white following by another color. winnie
  15. If A.agates that look like swirls with no seams should be hand-gathered,than Akro slags with no hand-gathered traits could be hand-gathered too,or am I going nuts LOL winnie
  16. Ric,Yours look like a swirled and seamed one. This one hand-gathered or seamed? winnie
  17. Wow very interesting, hope someone can tell you more about it. winnie
  18. Nancy,I see a lot of WV swirls and some Peltiers, but I'm curious about the one in your third picture second row under, the one with the red and green dots,I've no clue more pictures..? winnie
  19. Why? I like their history, not only of marbles but the history of toys in general. And I find out that i like to photograph marbles, than i can dream away,it's kinda relax for me LOL winnie
  20. your first picture looks Master but your second picture,I'm not sure if they're all Masters. If you want to know it you better can post 2 or 3 views of each marble. At this moment I'm not sure myself with foreign sparklers and Masters LOL the last picture could be a German sparkler,is that the one Buddy? If you post new pictures would you please show the poles? winnie
  21. It's 5/8 Is this an hybrid or a 4 color popeye? Or is there no difference at all between an hybrid and a 4 color popeye? thanks, winnie
  22. Yes indeed, some of the new Jabo's look like old German swirls,it's a bit confusing sometimes. winnie
  23. Think they're German and not so easy to find here. winnie
