I am not good with MK names, but IMO that first one you posted should have a name too - it'd be nice to know what it is.
-
That's what I expected, but I didn't think it would be a surprise to you! Pretty cool, huh?
-
This would be so much easier if we were next to one another holding that marble, but I'll give you a couple of tips. First, I have seen that "thick multi-filamentous wispy striping" (for lack of better terminology) on quite a few Alleys. And second, if you look at the cut-off (seam sorta) on the top of the marble as you posted it, it sorta looks like someone dragged a butter knife through the hot glass and the "striping" is kinda drawn out to fine points. I hope this helps - it's tough to put it in words.

The first one is cool, Joep. Is the base opaque?
-
Too funny! Could be a double ingot.
-
I can sure see why you might think Ravenswood but I think it's an Alley.
-
I kind of think the first one has a name but I am not sure what. Nice marble! . . . is it Blue Boy or something like that?
-
I'm not sure, Joep. The pattern doesn't really strike me as Vacor but I could certainly be wrong.

You have to be careful with the Bicentennial bags. I dare say the majority of them were filled by jobbers long after 1976 and they do not contain the same array of marbles as originally packaged by Champion. I think the originals have Peltier marbles in them but the back-fills do not. Any Champion Old Fashioned marbles also indicate the bag is back-filled.

The only Sammy I own is attached to a cane. Can you name the 14 WV marble companies who are represented by their marbles, in alphabetical order from the top down? -
I don't know, Tommy, do they corkscrew?

If you're thinking it's a marble, I think you're right! ๐

Thanks for the post! I think those look like a pretty good match for the mibs in my box, but I am pretty confident Champion didn't make patches, not on purpose anyway. They did round up marbles from other companies to package in the Bicentennial bags, though. Maybe these are leftovers from that effort. Either way, if Roger did get those out of the pit at Champion, it suggests they are quite a bit newer than we were thinking. To me, these marbles look mostly like newer MKs but I was leaning Vitro because of how many have seams that are offset by 90 degrees. The offset seams is pretty common for Vitro and not too common for MK so . . .? Another observation that leads me to think these marbles might be newer and the boxes doctored is because I have never seen one of these boxes beat. Every one I have ever seen looks brand new. I'll check my Bicentennial bags to see if there are any marbles like this in them. If you or anyone else has one, it might be helpful to check them for mibs like this.

You know you're getting better at ID's whan you get the oddballs, Tommy. MK, way to go!
-
They all look like MKs to me. Not sure about woody on the first. The second is a Tricolor. And I think the last one is old too - just a little odd.

I posted these as AntiBlackies a few pages back. Obviously, the one in the back center is a bit different, since it has two different colors on the poles. The reason I went with AntiBlackie instead of Yellow Jacket on this one is because, while I have seen many Yellow Jackets with red patches, I have never seen a Yellow Jacket with red equatorial ribbons or no yellow - have you? And if it's not an odd AntiBlackie, what in the world is it? There is nothing hiding in the photo - a blue patch, a green patch and equatorial red ribbons, with very little white showing anywhere. And FWIW, I'm going to like that marble no matter what it's called, so have at it! Maybe a Hybrid Anti All Red?
-
That Rainbo Red has the colors, no doubt. Kinda funny . . . I was looking through some of my MKs in preparation for MK Monday and I seriously thought about posting the exact same marble here - you beat me to it!
-
I still think this is Vacor but this one has a little something extra going on, IMO. That sort of a tongue with a little fold-back is none too common on these, at least the ones I have seen. It's a cool mib!
-
I'd probably have it with my Alleys, Bruce.

It is a cool looking marble! At first glance it looked Alley to me. But it always throws me a bit when the pics don't match the description well. Here, I really don't see any blue base glass, other than little hints showing through the white in places, perhaps. So are you saying that the white and the brown oxblood looking stuff in this pic is pretty much all on the surface of a trans blue body?
