This is just awesome, Chris! Thank you so much for posting it. It is very interesting. Now I have to get some of those marbles!
-
Too funny - it looks like there might be a lazy okra in there.
-
at least for me. Lots of AV. My first thought was Akro but . . . ? And the base is transparent? I've not seen one before, that I recall. Anyone have any ideas about this one?
-
It's a great remembrance, Chad. Is it UV sensitive?
-
I think it's a odd Alley. Wouldn't it be nice to see some AV in that blue?

No problem, M.Newbie! To show us more, just use the "Start New Topic" button on the top page of the Marble I.D.'s forum, where you see all of the other topics, including this one, listed!

Nice group, Chad - they always look extra nice when you get a few good ones together!
-
This one's a real looker - great colors!
-
Nice selection and great pics, Joep! Those red and blues look great in the Akroware - looks like a fourth of July post!

It looks like you have the idea now, Newbie. And your pictures are quite good. The first one looks mostly like a Vacor (Mexican) marble to me. The second is a Vitro Conqueror/Victory type, and the third is a Peltier Rainbo. Vacor has made marbles in Mexico for many years, and they produced quite a few different varieties of 'spaghetti ' type marbles like your first one. There is an outside chance it could be something else, in which case, it would be really hard to ID definitively since it's a pretty simple marble and there just isn't a lot to go on. Just a tip to help you - it's usually best to start a new topic for each marble you want help with. You could put two or three in each topic but if you add too many it gets too bothersome to keep track of them and you probably won't get as many responses. Looking forward to seeing more of your marbles!

The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...

Welcome aboard marblenewbie! Post away, we love to look at marbles! -
I know exactly what you are talking about - it's pretty distinctive. And I do see that purple color on some Sistersvilles, just not in combination with the tater-looking base glass (although maybe example #20 is close, I'll have to take another look when I get a chance - I'll report back).

I'm also betting there were a few packaging manufacturers that were flush during the heyday of marbles.
-
Okay, just one more that I really do think is sweet Can you believe that agate is hand-faceted? I smell child labor.
-
Last ones for today Can you tell I don't collect these? My relationship to these types of marbles really makes me feel defective as collector. If they fall into my lap, I won't usually throw them in the creek unless they're really beat, but beyond that, they don't get any love around here. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the talent involved in making them and all, and I do find some of them attractive, but these marbles have been buried in a drawer for at least a decade since I last saw them and I've already had my fill. I have no idea what most of them are called and I really could care less. Maybe I'm just a horrible person. lol

Here is a 30 count mesh bag of Vitro's Victory Agates It contains what are commonly referred to as Conqueror marbles. The marbles are all veneered and none of them react to UV. Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate my Conqueror bag at the moment.

I did a lazy experiment - no counting or statistics. I went into my helmet drawer with only a UV light and picked out a big handful of glowers. When I turned the light on I found that I had chosen marbles with a wide variety of base and striping colors - some of them were RW&B like you show. Next, I selected a big handful of RW&B ones. I looked at them with the UV light and less than half of them glowed. My point here is, that I am not sure what your point is. lol

That is exactly what I was thinking. My thoughts exactly. It would be really nice to see one of these with a pontil. Until then, I am going to assume they don't exist!

I am betting the Master and Heaton boxes were made by the same manufacturer. They are so similar I can't imagine two different producers supplying them to these companies.

Pretty bird, now the real question is . . . can you blame him? -
Mine do too, but I am not too sure how reliable UV glow is for determining age. Lots of newer marbles glow.
-
How are you helping to create a new generation of collectors?
Ric replied to bumblebee's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Not gonna do it - I refuse! lol. -
Found one, it's better but still weak. I know Bill has some that are thicker and bolder still. Another thing to consider is that I am confident mine is a production example and the vast majority of these we've seen are dug, including this one.
