It's Pelt and I think Sunset is a real possibility.

This is a real oddball, IMO. If you look at the last photo it appears that the whole area may have been "black" at one point and the bull's eye was made by removing the surface paint/surface in a ring. My guess it is very soft. And if you look at some areas it appears very light maybe even white underneath - like the vast majority of the marble's surface has a dirty patina. I forget what they call that very soft almost chalky white stuff they used to make marbles out of (@Alan ?) but that's what this reminds me of. Does it seem light for it's size? As for the decorations, my best guess is that it may have been a painted clay marble at some point and wear has produced what appears to be a more elaborate form of decoration. It's also possible some kid decorated it themself at some point. It certainly wouldn't be the first time I have seen homemade decorations on a marble. Whatever it is, I am guessing it doesn't look anything like it did the day it was made.

It looks totally different in these pics, and it sure wouldn't be useful as a marble. I have a feeling this has a more industrial application, maybe a mill ball, and the shape is meant to facilitate it function, whatever it might be. I could imagine it as part of a ball valve of some sort too. It's definitely not a marble.

Very common Alley Agates - except for the first one in the middle row and the middle one in the third row down of your group pic (maybe the first one in the first row too). Those look like they may not be swirls from this view.

A 2" coreless is far from common, that's for sure. In fact, I think they are at least VHTF, especially in good condition. Beware of contemporaries at that size.

NP, Creased "pontils" tend to be real spidery looking. I think that little loop you see near the pinch is just part of the action of the marble.

Neat articles and interesting info about adding English to a shot. I have to believe there are some young marble shooters today who would enjoy and perhaps benefit by reading them. The kid in the first article must've gussied up for his photo shoot. I can't imagine he typically shot marbles in a fancy suit and wingtips. 🙂

The "Score!" thread. Post your exciting finds here...

That's my kind of marble, Fire - nice one! -
Looks a lot like a pinch "pontil" transitional to me.

That makes me even happier.

Pokey makes me happy! Thanks, Fire.

This is pretty common on other Vitros and Peltiers too, Fire. Less common on Akros and Masters, I think.

It looks more like a Whispler or other foreign marble to me.

Straight on shots of the seams are helpful when IDing these types in particular and the marbles are not in focus so it's hard to see detail. I could guess but I won't.

Nice contemporary - sweet pattern. Not my wheelhouse.

The first looks like an Akro - kin to a Lifesaver. The second looks JABO to me.

Of course, you're right . . . The distance between the "cut line" and the "shadow line" is equal to the length of the base, where θ represents the angle of the knife's bevel and altitude is equal to the thickness of the blade. In nerd words, B-C = A-B * tan(θ). 🙂 Note: There are a variety of assumptions and variables here that I am not interested in accounting for.
