  1. A 'uge UK company called Willis bought "naming rights" to the Sears Tower when they moved their USA offices in. Willis Tower. Sure. Right. Steph, that's weird . . . "my Great Uncle Charlie Sears helped design the Sears Tower. No relation! And Charlie's brother was named Willis. Willis Sears."
  2. Yes -- a real Leighton. Melted pontil made over here by one of JH Leighton's companies. Going by color, I'd guess Barberton. They used lighter and more unusual colors than Navarre . . .
  3. "Weasel words." I like that, Alan!
  4. And the list gets even longer . . .
  5. Is the fumed one Kevin Nail? His are usually a little more extreme, but . . .
  6. I like the specificity of your verbiage.
  7. Those are nice. I could maybe use a couple of those . . .
  8. Let me know! Er. I mean, Let us know . . .
  9. I like that. I thought it would be someone who spoke entirely in euphemisms . . .
  10. That's askin' a lot. Let me think about it.
  11. I'm jealous. In a fairly serious way.
  12. Some of it has to do with the age and condition of the tank and the nozzles, for lack of a better term. It can affect the depth and / or thickness of the ribbons, for example, or whether a patch is just on the surface or extends a little into the marble. Tanks, basically made of fire brick, wear out / wear down every few years and need to be rebuilt or replaced. The funnels through which a secondary glass is introduced into the tank (near the "drain hole" through which the molten glass stream will exit the tank) can vary somewhat in size through age, use, and replacement as well. The chunks of furnace brick or sand-like debris in some marbles? That's the tank deteriorating --
  13. Or a saddle you're gonna put on a horse.
  14. So . . . going back to the original boxes pictured above, and adding what Hansel said, we have Pelt two-color National Rainbo Marbles (NRMs?) and three-color National Sunset Line (NSL?) [marbles]. Right? And / or why do we call the "named" marbles NLRs? Were they ever boxed as such? I think I've seen some. If so . . . what the heck's the difference? Is this why we keep fumbling over the definition of NLR?
  15. Nice outfit, Steph. The Chicago Air & Water Show is this weekend so all afternoon the Air Force Thunderbirds have been buzzing downtown (even lower than the top of the Sears Tower, that we're now supposed to call the Willis Tower) and the lakefront. WHEE!
  16. The bubbly base is actually colorless in a green fizz. The transparent lime green is in ribbons, accompanying the white ones . . .
