The orange peel is there but it looks way less obtrusive inhand. The macro pics make it look really bumpy. Hard to get a pic of it without them getting in the way.

LOL the Guttas are just a few marbles in a very big pile right now.

There is really nothing going on in the middle of this marble. No core of any kind really, just bubbles. The colours are just under the surface and are veneered pretty much. Here are a couple of backlit pics if they help. There is an example of this type on this site. http://antiquemarbles.co.uk/

Listing tonight but want a proper name. I was thinking simply Rare Coloured Early Onionskin. Are there any other applications that should be added? E.O.D?? Cloud?? Would using the term "OXBLOOD" to describe the red be ok. I would add the " " of course. Any input would be great.

Your right there is no such thing as an Akro Corkscrew either. Don't think there would be too much of an argument calling this one a Snake Style Popeye though. Pretty cool marble.

For the sake of proper education THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN AKRO SNAKE. From the pics I would put that one with my Popeyes.

Crappy phone pics sorry. What's the deal with the brown one? Measures a hair under 1 11/16" and has a very light glaze. Will get better pics if needed.

I agree on them being later as well. From past marbles I have sold with a blue bases and well faceted pontils this glass seems seedier and crude. Not sure if it is the original board either? It was the only board in the trunk and I had to scrounge the marbles out of the bottom. The mahjong set was dated 1923 and the playing cards were dutied at 3p, also a 1920's timeline. I'llhavethat1 yours looks like it would fit in a pinch. There is one there with skinny orange. I'll send you a PM One more will let me play, but two more for a set. Has anyone even memorized the order of moves to win at Solitaire? Not me.

Close up of the pontils

Generally pass on these type of marbles because they are always in the 1/2" to 9/16" range and way over priced. Had to buy this one though even though it's missing two. Anyone have 2 that will match up with this set? Marbles measure from between 13/16" and 7/8". The pontils are something I have never seen before either? They are pretty crude but have been faceted/ground? Would these have been early or later type pontils? Any info would be great.

Yep looks like a resin one from here. I see dozens of them here. True test is to heat a pin head to red and then poke into one of the holes. If resin it will smell like burnt plastic, if ivory it will smell like burnt hair or fingernails. They also do these in some sort of stone like slate or something?

New one to me.

I have seen one with different coloured spools of thread in it with a bit hanging out each hole. Not sure if that is what they were for or if someone was just being inventive?

It is a harder to find colour though. Olive Green is what I have sold them in the past as. I think I only have two right now, and maybe a couple in the junker tub.

Actually it was the glass quality that made these weird. It is a much nicer glass than the Japanese types that look like them. Despite the Orange Peeled and creased surfaces it is a nice clear clean glass. This group was found at a carboot and purchased from a brother/sister team that was clearing out mums house for her. After a 10 min argument on what shop they got them at as kids (that was never resolved) they both agreed that they were purchased with their grandfather when he came to visit in 1974. This part was easy for them to recall since granddad died the next year and the memories of his last visit were still clear in their minds. While I am a sceptic of most stories this one was as believable as any I have ever heard. Anyhoo here are the marbles I got from them. All measure 1 1/8" ish. I think they are all related. Any other ideas?

I have never seen any like these before, so I put them aside thinking they were a little weird. I did have somewhat of an educated guess so they ended up with a certain type of marble. Based on what you can see in the pics does anyone else want to take a shot at where they ended up? The other day I found another group that might help to sort out what these are. I will post those later. These marbles are in the 5/8" range, just a hair over.
