Des Moines Marble Show Report. "a Success"
IowaMarble replied to Killermarbles's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Well, the 2nd Annual Des Moines Marble Show is over and I think it is safe to say that it was officially a success! In-room trading began on Tuesday night, 6/3 with a couple of collector’s coming in early and quickly grew to 16 rooms by Wednesday night, 6/4. Thursday’s, 6/5 in-room trading was fairly strong with 47 rooms and Friday, 6/6 got even busier with 52 rooms! There were about 6 or 8 folks who unfortunately had to stay in hotels down the street due to our room block selling out almost 6 weeks early. Our block for next year has been increased to 85 rooms so we shouldn’t run out of rooms going forward but I can’t stress enough how important it is to call early and make your room reservation. There were several collectors in attendance who had recently made new marble collection acquisitions which allowed for some great marbles to be had at very reasonable prices. Friday night’s adult ringer tournament was opened up by Dave Brauhn’s grandchildren, Miles and Grant singing their song “Marbles are Fun”. Congratulations to the winners, Tom Morse (1st Place), Larry Svacina (2nd Place), and Charles Williams (3rd Place). Saturday’s, 6/7 show was not to be missed and also experienced a great turnout with a children’s ringer tournament and 36 exhibitor tables being setup for display and last minute deals. The formation of the Iowa Marble Club 501©(3) was announced and started out with about a dozen new members. Annual memberships are still available for $25.00. The first club meeting will be later this fall, a specific date has not yet been determined. There are still white, black and smoke gray Des Moines Marble Show t-shirts available in all sizes for $20 and $22. The Des Moines Marble Show website (www.DesMoinesMarbleShow.com) should be updated by the end of the week and will have about 300 new photos of the in-room trading, adult marble tournament and marble show! Thanks to all who supported this year’s show! Chad -

2Nd Annual Des Moines Marble Show

The room block for the 2014 Des Moines Marble Show is now full. The hotel has started a waiting list just in case there are any cancellations. There are still tables left for the marble show on Saturday – please let me know if you need one. I am told that the Quality Inn and Suites just down the road that has a few rooms left. The number is 515-287-3434. Unfortunately, the World Pork Expo is also going on the same weekend so rooms in the Des Moines area are becoming scarce. This year’s show sold out 5 weeks before the show date. Next year’s room block has been increased to 75 rooms! My sincerest of thanks goes out to all those who are supporting this year’s show. -

As of 4/29, we have 46 rooms reserved. My room block was setup for 50 rooms so if you are planning on attending the show, you might consider calling soon to make your room reservation. In the meantime, I am going to see what I can arrange to increase the room block. The cutoff date for our negotiated room rate is Friday, May 23rd. Looking forward to seeing many great friends! -

The 2nd Annual Des Moines Marble Show will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2014 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at the Des Moines Airport Holiday Inn. In-room trading will begin on Wednesday (6/4) and will continue through Saturday morning (6/7). Room rates are $90 per night but only until midnight on Friday, May 23rd, 2014. When making your room reservation, please be sure to mention the Des Moines Marble Show so that you get the negotiated room rate. Exhibitor tables for Saturday’s show are available for $40. Each table is 8ft. long and comes with two chairs, table cloths, electricity and a waste basket. Just like last year, we will be having an adult ringer tournament on Friday night. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! The hotel is located directly across the street from the Des Moines Airport and is pet friendly with advance notice. There is a full restaurant and bar on-site and there are many other great dining and shopping options within a short driving distance. We are anticipating 50-60 rooms this year! As of 4/10, we already have 32 rooms reserved! To make a room reservation, please call the hotel at 515-287-2400. To make a table reservation or if you just have questions, please call Chad Cline at 515-205-3569. Please visit our website for further information or to print a show flyer. www.DesMoinesMarbleShow.com

To The Pelt Gurus Out There....
IowaMarble replied to MarbleDawg86's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Most appear to be Pelt to me. Not sure on column 6 marbles 2, 3 and 4. Those three look a little MK-ish to me. Looks like a nice start to a Peltier rainbo collection for the most part. Column 5, marbles 6 and 8 look like Pelt NLR's to me. One is called a bumblebee and the other is called a dragon. -

Peltier Peerless Patch Peralized

Condition is king. High side for a mint example would be around $250.00. Pearlized patches are known for fracturing issues. -

Wow. I don't even know what to say other than I hope you get your marble. This person has a long track record of shady business on eBay and even on the forums a couple of years ago. Thank you for sharing your experience with us so that we can all be warned.

No, I do not believe the stained glass boxes were marked with a number. The No.15 box was on eBay last year. Not sure who won it though.
